Chapter 1 - Seems Nice

"What am I doing?" Silvia thought out loud as her car traveled up the mountain road. Her father took off before she was born... She got a notice on her twentieth birthday of this cabin he left her. Now here she was driving this narrow road to someplace she'd never been to see it. Maybe she would finally have some closer...Closure? Is that what she's after? Lots of questions filtered her mind: Who the man was? Why he left? Where was she going? Why did he leave this for her? She held her breath as another car approached. Maybe it was the lawyer...

"6789" shown on the mailbox and that was suppose to be the address. She turned into the driveway and gasped. Wildflowers scattered throughout the lawn and pine trees surrounded the cabin. It had a wrap around porch, big windows, a stone chimney sprouted on the end, and an oak door with stained glass panels. Her car came to a stop just outside and the other car pulled up beside her. "Silvia Clark?" Asked a woman wearing a business suit. She had short blond hair and rosy cheeks as she hurried over with a clipboard. "I just need you to sign here and a photo copy of your ID...Then the place is yours." She smiled holding up a key. Silvia shrugged, "I don't know if I want it..." "Are you kidding?" She said dropping the clipboard down. "Ms. Clark, it's a lovely place, all paid for, the taxes are reasonable, and there's even a fund to pay those for the next two years. Come inside, let me show you around, and then make up your mind okay?" She smiled again walking up to the front door. "I'm Becky by the way, Becky Marshall, we talked on the phone?" Silvia nodded..."The cabin has hardwood floors throughout, drywall in the master, and a modern kitchen. He left the natural wood in the living area by the fireplace." Becky smiled and stood in front of her. A black leather sofa sat on a white fluffy rug in the living room. It seemed more modern inside with some rustic charm. A big flat screen hung above the fireplace and a painting on one of the walls with splashes of black, red, and white. "If I don't like it I could always sell right?" Silvia asked. "Of course, I'm sure this place would sell no problem." Becky laughed as Silvia signed the paperwork. "The account number is here and the transfer of deed. The electric is paid until the end of the month and then you need to contact them to have it transfered as well. Our office will make copies and I will deliver them to you probably by next week. You have my number if you have any further questions..." Becky said and hurried out the door. "I guess I have a cabin now..." Silvia said to herself looking around once more. The sunlight was fading. She walked to the kitchen and turned on a light. Her stomach rumbled as she went to the refrigerator. "What was I expecting? A fully stocked fridge?" She laughed as she closed it's doors. She reached in her pocket for her cell phone. "I wonder if there's any good places to eat around here? Great...no signal." She shook her head and shoved the phone back. She turned off the light and headed to the front door. The remaining light filtered through the stained glass. An image of a wolf howling at the moon shown across the floor in brilliant gold, orange, and red. She had an overnight bag that she left at the hotel because she hadn't planned on staying. It was her curiosity that got the best of her. Maybe she could pack up some of her stuff and move in by next week. She could lease out her apartment and take some vacation time. She had it stored up. This place might hold some answers to her would be father and it was a nice place. In a month or possibly two she could go back to her life and rent this place out. That seemed like a plan. She got a slight signal at her car to pull up her GPS and drove away.
