Chapter 3 - Screams in the Night

Silvia was woken up by pounding on her door. Everest stood by growling and blocking her way. "You really don't want me to answer do you!?" She said pushing her way past. She saw it was just a girl through the glass. Everest barked and growled once more trying to push her away from the doorway. She threw the door open and Everest lunged. "Get it away! It's one of them! They'll kill me! Help!" The girl screamed. Silvia shoved Everest outside and closed the door. She could hear him frantically scratching it. The poor girl had to be no older than sixteen. She was covered in blood, bruises, and scratches. "Keep them away!" She screamed. "Hey, you're safe now...Can I call someone? Shit! No service! I gotta go out." Silvia yelled. "Don't!" She screamed as foam started coming from her mouth and she dropped to the floor. She was shaking uncontrollably and started scratching herself. "Get it out!" She screamed scratching harder. Silvia went to grab her arms when the girl bit her wrist. "Shit!" Silvia yelled. She had drawn blood. The girl seemed to be choking on her own as it pooled from her eyes, nose, and mouth. Silvia jumped to the door and as soon as it opened Everest plunged to the girl trying to drag her out. She was too big for the pup but it didn't stop him from trying. Silvia went to her car to call paramedics. Paramedics and police pulled up nearly an hour after she called. The lights flashed in the night. Everest had managed to pull the girl onto the porch but she wasn't moving anymore. One of the officers knocked on her car window. "You the one that called this in?" He asked and Silvia nodded. "I need to get a statement for our report. The girl didn't make it." He said. Silvia told them everything that happened. "Poor girl, must have been attacked in the woods. We get animal attacks sometimes. You need to be careful out here alone and you might want to get a rabies shot." He said after Silvia signed her statement. "Thanks officer. Can I go back inside now?" She sighed. "Hell of a first night! I don't see why not. Paramedics took her away. Hopefully, we'll be able to identify her and notify her family soon." He said as he walked her back to her house. The door closed with a click and the flashing lights faded into the distance. There was blood smeared on the floor so, she went to clean it up. Her wrist was on fire and pain shot up her arm. "Shit Sis! She bit you!" a young voice spoke behind her. Silvia froze and the boy ran up and grabbed her arm. He was bare chested with a blanket wrapped around his waist. Dark hair and darker eyes. He was maybe ten. "No more secrets then..." He smirked.
