Chapter 1 - Sinoca: Demon Hunter

The sky was filled with dark clouds as the rain was pouring down in a dark forest. Suddenly, two demons were running as fast as they could. They were both large with red skin and one eye. Their teeth looked jagged and sharp. They stood on two feet and had claws instead of hands. Suddenly, a young woman was chasing them. She had blue eyes and brown pigtails. She wore what looked to be a gray uniform, and carried a katana with her. The girl was jumping from branch to branch and was quickly closing the distance with them.

"Come on! " She's catching up!" One of the demons yelled in a panic.

"I know! " I'm running as fast as I can!" The other demon yelled as he tried his best to keep up. Suddenly, the woman jumped down and landed directly in front of the demon that was in front.

"Oh sh-", the woman sliced the demon in half with her blade before he could finish, killing the demon instantly.

"Gokii!" The other demon cried out. He turned to run, but the woman was too fast, cutting his head off before he could make a third step. The woman then cleaned the black blood off her blade before returning it to its sheath. Shortly after, a man and woman wearing the same gray uniform as the woman began to run up. They were visibly out of breath. They both looked to be in their mid 20s. The man was tall with short black hair. The woman was short with short scarlet hair.

"Sinoca, I know you are a prodigy and all, but we are a team," the man complained. "You can't just leave us behind like that. Sinoca fixed her hair. A habit of hers when she felt there was nothing to do."

"I had to run ahead of you. If I didn't, they would have gotten away," Sinoca answered. "What does it matter, we split the reward regardless of who kills the demon."

"Not the point!" the other guy yelled.

"Nate, relax," the red-haired girl said. "You know how Sinoca is, she will always jump right in, she can't help it. We have to accept that when she sees demons, everything goes red."

"Thank you, Amanda," Sinoca said in a sarcastic tone, to which Amanda responded by jokingly sticking her tongue towards Sinoca.

"Whatever," Nate responded, rolling his eyes. "I'm tagging these guys." Nate went over to each body and stabbed them both with a white needle that had a white tag attached to it. The white needle immediately turned black and the tag was now engraved into the body of each demon.

"Nice job Nate. So.... do you guys want to take another job?" Sinoca asked, still feeling a lot of energy.

"Honestly, I want to go home and get some sleep," Amanda answered, "I have been hitting the clubs a bit too hard lately."

"It's amazing you can still party when we are at war with the demons," Sinoca said, shaking her head.

"Don't waste your breath," Nate said. "She isn't changing. Anyway, let's head back." The ladies agreed, and the team began to walk back to the city together. They had been walking for a while, only making small talk and other quips.

"Hey Sinoca," Amanda said, "do you mind if I ask you a question?"

"Not at all," Sinoca answered, "go ahead."

"Why do you hate demons so much?" Amanda asked.

"Is that a serious question?" Nate interrupted.

"I know the obvious reasons, but there just seems to be something deeper with her," Amanda explained. Both Nate and Amanda were so busy arguing, they didn't recognize that Sinoca had stopped talking. Sinoca's mind was somewhere else. She tugged on her locket. She took the locket everywhere. She opened the locket to see a picture of her and her father when she was young.

"Demons killed my father," Sinoca answered, causing Nate and Amanda to stop arguing. "My dad was, like us, a member of the DCU, but one day, he was killed on duty. My dad was... he was more than just my hero. He was my best friend. Even though he faced countless tough battles daily, he always had time for me. He was so warm and kind, not just to me, but to everyone who met him. He's the greatest man I've ever known. So when I got the news, I knew that I was going to honor him by riding the world of those monsters." Both Nate and Amanda just stared at Sinoca, both of them saddened by Sinoca's explanation.

"Sinoca I-" Amanda started, but she was cut off by a demon with yellow skin and four horns coming out of his back, carrying what looked to be a human child. Chasing him were four athletic men in uniforms similar to the ones Sinoca and the others wore. The only difference was that these men had a green uniform.

"Come on, let's follow them!" Sinoca yelled. Before the others could protest, Sinoca was already chasing after the demon. The others begrudgingly followed Sinoca. After a long chase, the demon was cornered by the humans. Sinoca arrived shortly after. She was still out of sight. She wanted to rush in and help her fellow DCU members, but the others were a higher rank than her, and it looked like she wasn't needed.

"In the name of the Demon Containment Unit, we order you to stop!" One of the men yelled at the demon.

"You can kill me, but please, spare this child," the demon said. "He's innocent in all of this, and he's one of your own. You have already killed his family. Please let him live." Karasu was stunned, her demon was begging for the life of a human to be spared.

"The boy knows too much, he can't be allowed to live," another one of the DCU members said.

"He's just a child!" The demon yelled. At this moment, both Nate and Amanda had arrived and were watching as well.

"Hurry up and kill them so we can go," a voice said.

"Yes sir!" The DCU men answered before they sprung into action. The demon did his best to defend the kid and fight, but the teamwork of the DCU members was too much and the demon was slain.

"Carl!" The human kid yelled. Almost immediately, the DCU soldiers surrounded him. Sinoca started to run out to save the kid, but she was grabbed by Nate and Amanda. They held her back and covered her mouth as they watched the humans brutally decapitate the boy.
