"What do you mean Ruben?!" Sinoca asked in a panic. Her heart now racing hearing the fear and urgency in his voice.
"I've been doing some digging on the DCU. There were a lot of things that weren't adding up," Ruyen explained. "The frequency of how often demons showed up in different areas. The range of quality, things of that nature. It all seemed.....odd. So I did some more digging. I started looking into wins and losses. That's where it started to really get weird."
"How so?" Sinoca couldn't help but to ask.
"As you know, there are five different levels of the hierarchy here. We go from soldiers, to knights, to generals, to commanders, and we have the heads. The heads basically run everything."
"I follow."
"Well, as you move up, you have more that you will learn, which is why I have access to things that you don't," Ruben continued. "So I found it odd that the higher that among the knights and the generals, the number of cases where one person died was astronomically higher than the other departments. I started to look into these cases, and they were all very obscure missions, all far from the status quo. I got curious so I kept looking. I found that all of those missions were cover-ups. Those men were silenced. Some on mission, some of the missions were made up."
"What?!" Sinoca gasped.
"Yeah, those people either found out or were close to finding out what the DCU really is," Ruyen continued. "It's a cover-up run by demons. We are really used to kill their fodder or demons that get out of line, but the reason we aren't winning the war with the demons is because we aren't trying to." Sinoca felt her heart drop. The organization she dedicated her life to, the one her dad did for, was lying to them. As she thought about her father, she had a thought.
"What about my father?" Sinoca asked, as she gripped her locket. There was a brief silence.
"I.....don't know what he stumbled on, but he was silenced," Ruyen said sorrowfully. The sadness Sinoca felt was quickly turned into rage. Rage that this organization, the same organization that her father served fatefully, was the one responsible for his death. As she could think about was getting revenge. "..... Sinoca!!" Ruben yelled as if he had been calling out to her for a while.
"Sorry, Sinoca responded, "I'm sure you understand that this is a lot to process."
"I get it," Ruyen said, "but you still need to run. The organization knows I know this. They know we are together, they're going to go after you."
"What about you?" Sinoca asked.
"Don't worry about me," Ryan answered, "I'm on the run right now, I'll find you when I escape." Sinoca thought about everything, and as she was about to run, two people came to mind.
"I have to tell Nate and Amanda," Sinoca said, "I'll run away after that. We'll meet up with you then."
"Sinoca don't be stupid!" Ruben yelled.
"They're my friends, they deserve to know what's going on," Sinoca said, "love you honey, we'll meet up after we escape." Sinoca said as she hung up the phone. Sinoca then dashed in the direction Nate and Amanda left. When Sinoca arrived in tge city, she started to sneak around. She didn't want to be found. She didn't know how many of the DCU members were after her. She checked both Nate and Amanda's known hangout spots, but she didn't see them. Finally, Sinoca heard a commotion coming from nearby. Sinoca snuck towards the sound when she saw two of the knights from the other day. They were attacking someone, but she couldn't make out who it was. As she climbed up to get a better look, her eyes widened. Sinoca rushed down. One of the knights was going for the final blow, but Sinoca blocked the strike in time with her katana. She then kicked the knight in the face before slicing his head off. The other knight was startled, but still he attacked forward. Sinoca blocked all the knight's attacks before he spun around the knight, and stabbed him through the back. After killing the knights, she rushed to the victims' side.
"Nate! Nate! Hang in there!" Sinoca yelled.
"Sinoca? You have to get out of here," Nate said weakly.
"We have to get out of here, we'll find Amanda, and we'll meet and with Ruyen we'll escape," Sinoca reasoned.
"Sinoca, Amanda is there," Nate said, pointing behind him. Sinoca looked to see Amanda lying on the floor lifeless. Sinoca started to cry, looking at her. "Hey, hey, you have to go."
"We hav-"
"No, I'm done, you go," Nate said, "they are sending more. It is up to you to take down this organization. You have always been the special one. So, Sinoca, one last time.....you have to leave us behind."
"No, no I can't," Sinoca sobbed.
"Go!" Nate yelled before starting a coughing fit. Tearfully, Sinoca ran off. She went to one of the secret hideouts her team had. She had a few items there that she packed, including a few changes of clothes and a few snacks. As she left, she was sneaking her way out of the city, she saw Ruyen. He was in trouble. Three generals dropped him to his knees. As he looked down, and she looked up, they made eye contact.
"Go," Ruyen mouthed at Sinoca before he was decapitated by the Generals.
"Ruben," Sinoca cried out, tears streaming down her face. She wanted to attack them, she wanted to kill them all, but she knew it was suicide. So, hating herself for running, Sinoca escaped through the forest. She ran, and ran, and ran, until her body couldn't move anymore. Sinoca then collapsed to the ground, not caring that she was lying in the mud. In her head, she saw the dead bodies of her friends, of her boyfriend, of her father. Sinoca was overwhelmed as she cried loudly through the night.
