Chereads / Sinoca’s Revenge / Chapter 2 - Traitors

Chapter 2 - Traitors

Sinoca was heartbroken as the men killed the young child. She began to question everything she knew about the DCU. She was furious, not only at the killers, but at her friends for stopping her from saving him. As soon as the DCU members were no longer in the area, both Nate and Amanda let Sinoca go.

"Why did you guys stop me!" Sinoca yelled immediately. "That boy didn't deserve to die!"

"Sinoca wait," Amanda said, trembling.

"I could have saved him! He was just a child!" Sinoca continued.

"I know you are a bit stunned," Nate tried to interject.

"Forget stunned! I'm furious! I'm going to-"

"Sinoca stop!" Nate yelled forcefully. Sinoca stopped and looked at him. It was here that she noticed that he was visibly shaken. Sinoca then looked at Amanda, she was trembling with tears streaming down her face.

"Guys I-"

"What were you going to do, Sinoca?! Get yourself killed?!" Nate said. "It was four knights, we are barely soldiers. If we didn't grab you, you could have been labeled a traitor to the DCU, or been killed."

"I get it, but were we just supposed to let the kid die?" Sinoca asked.

"We don't know," Amanda said somberly. "I think these guys must have gone rogue. That must be the explanation, right? Why else would they do something like that? They're traitors. We should report them. Let's report them! Come on guys!" Amanda started to ramble, it was clear she didn't know how to process what just happened.

"I don't know about that yet," Nate responded. "That demon...he was protecting the child. I've never seen anything like that before."

He....he also begged for the kid's life. The traitors.....well the guys we think are traitors said, 'he knew too much'. They say they killed his whole family," Sinoca said.

"They have to be traitors, they HAVE to be!" Amanda said.

"I'll talk to Ruyen," Sinoca said. "I'll have him do some digging."

"Are you sure that's a good idea?" Nate asked.

"I trust him completely," Sinoca answered. "Other than him, I won't talk to anyone besides us about this."

"OK, keep us in the loop," Nate said.

"Will do," Sinoca said as she headed home. As she arrived at her apartment, there was a tall man with raven black hair there seated on the couch drinking a cup of coffee. The man was wearing the same uniform as those who killed the demons and the kids.

"Hey love, how was your day?" The man asked, smiling at her as she walked through the door. Then he noticed the look on her face. "Sinoca, what's wrong?"

"Hey Ruben," she said, walking to him. Ruyen got up and hugged her.

"Tell me everything," he said in a calm and supportive tone. Sinoca then went on to explain exactly what happened to them and what they saw.

"That...does sound troubling," Ruben said. "I for one, have never heard of anything like that."

"Right? A demon protecting a human like that, the DCU killing a human child, it's all so....unheard of," Sinoca said, trying to make sense of it all. She got up and started to drink some tea she had prepared.

"From your description of them, I may know of the people you saw, but I can't say I know them well," Ruyen admitted.

"Well, do you think you can look into it?" Sinoca asked. "Either we have some traitors among us, or something worse is going on."

"I'll look into it," Ruyen assured her. "Don't worry, I'll get to the bottom of it. In the meantime, you and the others should continue to go out on jobs, but be vigilant, keep your eyes open for anything that may be strange."

"Thanks babe, I knew I could count on you," Sinoca said before they kissed briefly.

"You know I will always have your back. You and I until the end of time," Ruben said with a cheeky smile. Sinoca started to laugh.

"I can't believe I used to make you say that," she chuckled before the two of them kissed again.

For the next few days, Sinoca and her team went about business as usual. It was rare that fellow DCU members would run into one another on a job, so they figured it was a long shot that they would see the same four guys. Still, as the days went by, Sinoca saw less and less of Ruyen. She felt as if he was getting wrapped up in his investigation, so she chose not to bother him. A few days went past and after another day of working, Sinoca was heading home. On the way, she noticed that she was being tracked. Slowly, she started to speed up, and she noticed the few following her were still following her. Sinoca then made a detour through the forest. They chased after her, but she was gaining distance from them. Sinoca decided to cut around and surprise them from behind. As she arrived being them, she saw it was three demons with green skin and giant blades for hands.

"Peekaboo," Sinoca said before taking out the first demon by slashing it with her blade, cutting it in half down the middle. The other two demons were startled, they were just chasing her. How did she get behind them? Too bad for them, they didn't even get a chance to figure it out, as Sinoca attacked them quickly. The first of the remaining demons blocked her first slash, but her follow-up attack managed to cut her head off. The last demon tried to attack Sinoca with his blades, but Sinoca blocked each of their attacks and finished it off by ducking under the blade and, while getting back to her feet, slicing the head off the demon.

I wonder what made them want to follow me? Sinoca thought to herself. At that moment, her phone began to ring. Sinoca pulled it out and when she saw it was Ruyen, she quickly answered.

"Hey Ruyen, I-"

"Sinoca! Thank God! You have to get somewhere safe, now!" Ruyen yelled in a panic. "They're coming for you soon!"
