Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Sold

Brinley's prov

"Sold for twenty thousand!" Larry the auction man and owner said as they led me off the stage. Twenty thousand was what I was worth. Twenty thousand that came out of his pocket and into Larry's hand. You may be wondering or thinking that I've been getting sold into sex slavery, but it was worse. It wasn't sex trafficking I was being sold into I was being sold to a vampire as a feed box, a personal blood bank, or to them the civil way of saying it their pet.

After you're sold into the vampire trade, your life is done. You were cattle at their disposal. You dress how they told you, you spoke when told to, you had no voice, no opinion, no social life, no freedom. How did this even remotely become a real-life problem? It happened about twenty-four months ago when the vampires attacked the president at the 2020 election. Body parts, screams, cries were heard on every television across the nation. After that, we have lived in fear of the nightwalkers. doing everything that we could with the light hours only to hide and board up our windows and doors at night. As long as we didn't come out of our houses at night we would live. Walk out of the house you would never be seen again and that's what I am.

One of the many children that had been stupid and curious enough to wander the streets at night hoping to meet a vampire-like in twilight or the vampire diaries and fall in love. Let's just say how I was captured wasn't the way Damon and Elena met. As one of the men walked me to my owner, I tugged at the ragged leash to hopefully catch him off guard to where he would let go and I could make a run for it. A fist coming down into my stomach makes me hit the floor making my idea of running for the hills seems like a repulsive plan. "Stand." A deep unfazed voice said from above me.

I looked him up from his newly polished dress shoes to his velvet black pants that looked to be pressed to perfection, and a white dress shirt that looked as if it had been made out of one of the most expensive fabrics the nation had probably ever seen.

I was instantly mesmerized by him. He was tall, maybe about 6 ́8 with dark brown hair and blue-green eyes that reminded me of the ocean at sunset. I stood and looked him straight in the eyes. Showing fear of a vampire was what they wanted. To feel powerful, in control, dominant. But those were things that I never would do or remotely bend on. He stared daggers down into my heart. I smirked at that. If he thought, I was going to cower then he had another thing coming. "Her age, blood type, and what part of the country did you catch her." he said looking at the owner. Larry scrambled through my file looking for the information he had asked for. "17 turning 18 November 3rd, type O and South Portland, Maine."

Maine, I hadn't been there in what felt like years. I was born at Northern Light Mercy Hospital on state street in the early hours of the morning on the third. I never left and I wasn't planning on it. The air was as fresh as the sea, the townsfolk were kind and always willing to help. It was honestly the perfect place to live. But it was gone, snatched from me when I decided to walk out the door that night.

A tug on my rope leash brought me back to my reality. He looked at the worn-down damp rope with pure disgust. with a single movement the rope was on the ground. He had pulled out from a jewelry box a diamond and rhinestone-covered collar with a dog bone hanging from it out and looked into my eyes fully engaged with me. "My pets always wear the best." The nerve this guy had was beyond me. He moved my hair from around my shoulders and clipped and tightened it. Then pulled out a matching leash and clipped it into its designated place. Larry shook hands with him, gave me a single look and then walked away. "Let's go home." was the last thing he said to me as we walked down the hall.
