Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: Learning The Ropes

Brinley's Prov

That night I dreamt of my family and everything I was missing out on my senior year. I missed my last homecoming football game, my last FCCLA cupcake and popcorn sale, my last Pep rally, my chance of stepping up to cheer captain, and running for homecoming queen. The things that my friends and I had been talking about since freshmen year. Jessica my rival probably took head cheerleader and became homecoming queen which made me sick. I got up out of bed when my door creaked open and one of the maids stepped in. "Miss Brinley master Starr has requested your presence in the kitchen." she said with a nod as she left the room. What could he want now after hurting me emotionally once again? I swear if I get out of here one day I'll need serious therapy.

I threw on a pair of sweats and a undershirt then headed to the kitchen to see drew standing in front of the stove. "Have a seat." he said in a cold voice. Rolling my eyes I sat down and crossed my arms over my chest. Drew turned around and looked at me as if I was just a random stranger. "I've been lenient with you but its time for you to start fulfilling your purpose here as my pet." I didn't know what to say, I knew this day was coming but I didn't prepare myself for it. I was thrown for a loop. " Nadia is the head maid she will guide you and show you the ropes." he was really going to throw my learning on to someone I've never met. I tried to hold my tongue but the words slipped out. " why aren't you teaching me the ropes?" this time he looked at me deeper than before and said " I'm busy I don't have the time to take no more time out of my day to show someone so inferior to me what I expect from them." after that he left and Nadia walked in. She was a old lanky little woman probably 4'11 with dark black hair that had small streaks of grey. " Come child its time to start learning the ropes."

Nadia showed me how Drew liked his human meals served , showed me how to clean the floors by hand , how to dust without getting it everywhere and so much more. As I got up off my knees from cleaning the baseboards with a toothbrush Nadia inspected my work. "Nicely done child now its time for the last stop, the forsaken cells." the name sounded familiar to me but I couldn't put my finger on it. Nadia lead me to a door that lead straight to stairs leading into almost complete darkness. It would have been completely dark if there wasn't torches dimly lit., we walked down the winding staircase for at least five minutes before we got to the cells. There had to be at least thirty cells down here. "Do the cleaning the same as we did upstairs, don't get too close to the cells and what ever you do don't talk to any of them." she said turning to head back up the stairs. "Why not talk to them, they are in cells they cant hurt me." I said grabbing the broom from the corner. " It would be wise if you did what I said, they aren't as they appear." I didn't ask anything else to Nadia and got to sweeping.

While I swept the floors I heard the rattling and growling from the cells. Nadia's words rang in my head. Don't get close to the cells or talk to them. But curiosity killed the cat. I grabbed a torch on the wall and shined it into one of the cells to see a woman with bright red curly hair. "Hello?" I said as she turned to face me. As she turned to face me her eyes turned red and she lunged at the door. She bite at me through the cage reaching for me. I had never seen a forsaken before only heard of them through the news from a vampire representative telling us about the worse of the worse vampires. If I wouldn't have used the bathroom before coming down here there would have been a clean up on aisle four. " Stop toying with the girl Scarlet." a deep voice said from behind me. "I'm hungry and I can't help that she stepped to my cell." she said with a smile looking past me at the voice. I turned around and saw a guy that looked to be in his mid twenties with dark black hair and icy blue eyes. He looked familiar but I couldn't put my finger on it. " Excuse Scarlet she's not doing so well with the starving." he said flashing me a fangy smile. " And how are you doing so much better than her?" I replied sarcastically. " I'm not, I want to rip your throat out just as much as she does but I've have been a vampire much longer than she has." his honesty scared me especially since he said that with a smile on his face. Truly sent a cold chill down my spine. " I should get back to cleaning." I said as I turned and started sweeping again. "Your Drews pet correct?" I ignored his question I had work I needed to get done before Nadia came back. " It's just like my brother to indulge in these social activities." I turned to look at him and that's when it clicked for me. The reason he looked so familiar was because he looked like an older paler version of drew. "Drew is your brother?" I said twirling the broom in my hand. "Younger less attractive brother yes." He said flipping a strand of hair from his face. " I'm Colton Starr, Drews older brother the one they keep in the closet." I gave him a smile and went back to cleaning.

Colton would speak here and there telling me I missed a spot and would laugh when I'd go to clean it and there was nothing there. After I finished I sat and waited for Nadia to come down and inspect my work. Since I had nothing else to do, I went and sat in front of Colton's cell and started talking to him. A girl gets tired of having no one to talk to. " Why are you down here, you seem just as normal as the other few vampires I've met." I said looking to make sure I wasn't in his or scarlets grasps. " I went on a ripper bender in 1776 when they brought slavery to America I feed and killed the slave owners along with their families and left only one person in the town to remember what happened, the royal families put a stop to me in the 70's when I started drawing to much attention to myself in Louisianna." He had killed probably millions of people during that time period and yet he was so calm about it like it didn't matter. "Do you feel remorse for that, all the human lives you took?" Colton stopped for a second like he was thinking and then said " Not one single bit do I feel remorse for what I did to them, if I had the chance to do it again id make it ten times more painful." I swore the color from my face drained but yet I was still intrigued by him. He was a mystery game that I didn't want to quit. I heard the door open at the top of the stairs and I got up couldn't let Nadia know I was breaking the rules I wanted to be able to come back down here. I finally had someone to talk to again I didn't want my world to go back to silence. "I'll come back tomorrow, id like to finish our conversation." I said as I dusted my knees off and headed to the bottom of the stairs. " I never caught your name." Colton said holding the bars of his cell. " Brinley May." I said as Nadia came into view. She looked around and gave me a pleased smile. " Perfect darling." she said taking the torch and beckoning me to follow. Today I learned more than just the ropes , and I was excited about it.

Colton's Prov

Brinley walked up the stairs and I turned my face away letting my eyes and fangs turn into their normal form. "What was the story telling for Colton?" Scarlet said looking at me with her arms folded. "Relax Scarlet it's all strategy, get us out of here, kill the royal families for caging us like animals, and most importantly destroy everything my brother holds dear starting with his little pet." I said with I smirk on my face. It was time I get my revenge. Especially on my golden boy little brother. She was the beginning of my plan that I had just set in motion, and she didn't even know it.010
