Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: Snow Always Melts

Brinley's Prov

Wiping the very last tear from my eyes I sighed looking out the window. I thought about my mom and how she would be getting ready for Halloween at the end of September. It was odd but it was just my mom. I missed hearing my dad complaining about all the pumpkins that she would set around the house and the porch, and the bath and body works pumpkin candles. Oh, how I missed those little things I took for granted. I cut the light off and slid in the bed and faced the window to see little specks of white falling from the sky making me sit right back up. "It's snowing in September?" it truly made no sense Alaska had three months out of the year where there was supposed to be no snow, yet the small specks of snow turned into big ones. My door opened and in stepped Drew wearing a black fur jacket and black sweats. "Get dressed I think you could use a normal day in the snow." he said with a smile before closing the door.

Confused with what was going on, I went to the closet and started looking for snow clothes. I hadn't been in the closet up until now, but it was the size of my bedroom back home. Everything was color coded, and season coded with signs above them. I went to the winter section of the closet and grabbed a pair of light ripped up jeans, a West Coast 1973 long sleeve shirt, an olive green / brown fur jacket, and some brown boots. "This should do it." I said as I put my hair in a ponytail and ran out the room. I hurried down the stairs and plopped down on the couch next to drew. He looked surprised to see me genuinely happy as was I, but it was snowing, and it gave me the feel of home. "Well let's go then." he said getting up and heading to the door. While I followed, I remembered it was 6:00 a.m. the sun was up he couldn't go out there he'd die. "Drew wait dint open the door the sun." but I couldn't stop him before e the heat of the sun hit my face.

I opened my eyes to see Drew standing there holding back a laugh. "How the hell aren't you ash!" I shouted at him. Once I said that he erupted in laughter. "I'm a pureblood Brinley, one of the five royal families, one of the first vampires to have walked this earth. The sun can't kill me. Irritates me and gives me a minor headache yes but I don't go up in flames or sparkle." That was a relief to know stupid vampire diaries universe and twilight gave me false information. I stepped outside and felt the warmth on my skin that I hadn't felt in what felt like years. It was delightful.

She threw her head back and let the sun hit her pale skin. Happiness glowed from her making wish I could have known her in her regular day life, not her as my pet. A sigh escaped my mouth catching her attention. "What's wrong." she said turning back to face me. I didn't want to answer her question because the answer she would have given me was something I wouldn't be able to do. "Tell me about your life, before all this." she looked into the distance before answering me. "My life was truly perfect; I had the ideal family. My father was chief of police, my mom was an obgyn." she continued to tell me about her life, how she was her parents only child and how much she truly loved them with everything in her heart. I went to reply but was hit in the face with a snowball. "Goodness, I tough you were faster than that." Jade said stepping from out of the tree line changing the mood completely.

Jade had great timing I was on the verge of crying. "So how are you liking the snow my brother created for you?" she said throwing it up in the air around us. Skyler made it snow. For me? No girl back home could say a guy made it snow for them in September. "How is that possible?" I said wide eyed. "It's his gift, Skyler controls the elements turn no matter what the forecast says." I looked at her highly confused. There were new things I learned about vampires every day. Guessing that one saying my mom always told me was true. "Do you all have that gift?" Drew and Jade chuckled. "No, we all have different gifts, Drew is a telepath and can see through another's eyes, Skyler obviously controls the weather, and I can read minds." what nifty gifts.

We all played in the snow for hours making snow angles, having snowball fights, and building snowmen. Skyler showed up a good two hours into our snow day. I thanked him so many times that he threw snow in my face to shut me up. About five Skyler and Jade's parents cut our fun with some important family matters they needed to attend to leaving Drew and I alone. Today I felt as if Drew and I connected in a way where he got to know me as more than the rebellious girl trying to run away. "Drew, may I ask you something." I said as I sat looking at the sun start to set. "Ask away." he said looking at the sun set. "Would I ever be able to go back and see my parents?" drew turned to look at me then with huff the words that soon followed brought me to tears. "That part of your life is over, you're never going back and the sooner you realize that the better of and the better you'll do your job here as my pet." I couldn't say anything but get up running crying into the mansion and into my room slamming the door. Today thinking that it was any different was a mistake. No matter how sweet drew was or how charming he was he was like snow. Beautiful, mystical, and brought joy for a little while but just like snow one thing always rang clear. Snow always melts.
