When Vida gave me that offer to kill her, she didn't specify that I no longer get bonus superpower in the next world. No super power means that I am literally just a helpless little girl in an unfamiliar world full of who knows what.
Oh and she also dropped me in the middle of the night. Add in the fact that I'm in a dark alleyway for the cherry on top and you can probably imagine just how screwed I am right now. Quite literally if this is a doujin, but I don't think it is.
I took a deep breath, clenched my fist, and lift my chin up. There are times where I should act like my physical age of twelve and there are times where I have to act like my spiritual age centuries. Now is time for the latter.
Dim flickering lights, faint sound of vehicles in the distance, dripping water, and occasional meow of cats. Tall concrete walls, network of pipes, old rusty pieces of garbage, and old newspaper scattered all around the area. No time for doubts or hesitation, this place is unsafe.
Voices and rapid footsteps suddenly appeared a distance away behind me. I turned around, held my breath, and hid behind a pile of scraps. I just hope that whoever it is won't notice my footsteps after stepping on a wet puddle.
Soon enough, I could finally see a teenage girl walking quickly through the alleyway. Not running, but walking quickly. In the split second she ran past me, I managed to notice a few key features. She has long black hair, violet eyes, and cream white skin.
Then, she disappeared, only to appear a split second later a few meters away from her original position. I don't know if it was just my eyes playing tricks with me, but I have a feeling that I shouldn't follow her if I don't want stuff to get real too quickly.
Welp, Yolo!
I sneaked out of my hiding spot and tried to follow her as silently and as quickly as possible. It's not that hard really, she seems to be a bit exhausted and too focused on her task to notice me following her from behind. It's like she's extremely confident about her current situation.
After following her for a few minutes I found myself standing in the middle of a suburban street. The street was a bit brighter than the alleyway, but it's still pretty quiet. Makes it a bit harder for me to walk without her noticing me.
She still hasn't notice me yet however, she didn't seem to notice anything at all actually, and she looks quite out of it. Kinda like an overworked employee working in auto mode.
Suddenly, she stopped right near a suburban house and her ears perked up. I held my breath and crouched down behind a bush, knowing that she is now fully aware of her surroundings. I just have to watch and not interfere, that's all I gotta do.
The girl took out a handgun from her pocket and aimed it at the window of the house. Then she waited, as if she knew that her target will appear soon enough.
A few seconds later, a creature appeared right in front of the window. It resembles a white furred cat, but with two elongated appendage growing out of its ears and golden ring floating around them. The creature was about to tap on the house window when the girl pulled the trigger and killed the cat with a headshot.
The girl and the cat vanished from existence moments later.
"Okay, Mr. Cat wants something from this house but Ms. Assassin here is having none of it," I muttered to myself while taking a closer look at the house. "Now to figure out what to do with this information..."
[LINE BREAK]
A few days later...
I double checked the flyer I found near the house that was visited by the cat. No doubt about it, that is Mitakihara Middle School alright.
One thing about Mitakihara Middle School is how freaking huge and creepy that building is. I mean, like, it's probably a building straight out of the matrix or something like that. Seriously, it's made out of glass, and it has this soulless atmosphere rolling off it.
Would a little bit of red and orange kill anyone?
Still, I'm not gonna be studying there though. Instead, I'm just gonna hang out near the school park and see if I can find that black haired assassin from before. I really want to have a word with her.
I sat down on a park bench and took out a fresh apple from my trench coat. Apparently there's a community garden where anyone can pick fresh fruit for free. Though the entrance isn't free so I have to sneak in, but I'm already pretty good at that.
It was early in the morning so there wasn't that much student around, just a few nerds and overly diligent students here and there. So I wouldn't worry about missing out on the assassin and just enjoy my apple.
After gazing upon the beauty of the park in the school, I finally found her. Not the assassin, but a pink haired girl talking alongside a blue haired girl and a green haired girl. There doesn't seem to be anything odd about them. They're just your regular teenage girl, the pink one is nice and calm, the blue haired one is your stereotypical bubbly cheerful girl, the green one is observant and quite proper.
Kinda nice to have color coded character every now and then.
They talked to each other for a moment, about school life, homework, ribbons, and other stuff like that. When they're near me I stood up from my position and waved at them. "Hi! Can I have a moment of your time?" I asked them.
They stopped in their tracks and walked towards me. The blue haired girl stepped forward towards me in slight curiosity. "Who are you? Are you lost?"
"Nope, I'm actually a visitor from another world. I'm just here to ask if there's anything strange or otherworldy going around here," I told them. "Like aliens, space cats... That sort of stuff."
Everyone blinked owlishly after hearing that. Then the blue haired girl tilted her head. "Are you alright?"
I rolled my eyes a little. "Well, here's an easy one," I told them. "Did any of you get any weird dreams last night? Or anything weird happened to you in particular?"
Everyone but the pink haired girl shook her head. The latter looked down in deep thought, as if not quite believing what's happening. "I... had something like that..." she spoke softly.
I smirked a little and walked towards her. "I don't know half of anything that's going on, but I will appreciate it if you tell me anything you..." my words faltered when I noticed a person staring at me from the distance. "...know or find okay? There's some serious otherworldly business going around here."
Madoka looked a bit fearful while Sayaka looked at me like in a mixture of disbelief and amazement. "Are you serious?" Miki asked. "You're really from another world?"
I nodded a little. "Yep! Now shoo! Otherworldly business is still below your need for education," I told them.
With that, we bid each other farewell and they continued their way back to school.
As for me, I have to address another matter that literally just popped out of thin air. "Okay, look, before you shot me dead," I said towards the black haired girl standing in the trees behind me. "I promise you that I won't get in your way. Just tell me what you want or not want me to do."
The girl appeared right next to me. She brought her face close to my ear and softly whispered. "I don't know who you are or what you want… but you will stay away from Madoka if you know what's good for you. Understand?"
I nodded a little. "I'm not gonna approach her, but I'm not gonna ignore her if she decides to approach me instead," I looked at her and finally get to see her closely.
She has a stone cold mask around her face. It's impossible for me to get a read on her other than the fact that she is hiding something and she means business.
"Don't try to stop me…" she spoke before turning around and walked away towards the middle school.
When I was sure she's far enough, I sighed a little and sat back down on the bench. I was so sure she's going to shot me dead right then and there. But it seems like she trusted me enough. That or there's too many eyewitnesses here.
Anyway, I should stay away from her.
