Chapter 4 - “Time goes on across other reality huh?”

Five minutes later...

Madoka, Sayaka, and I sat down in front of the triangular glass table in Mami's flat. Kyubei sat on my lap and I am more than happy to get some cuddles out of him. Though the cat doesn't seem to react all that much.

"Haios, can I see your gem?" Sayaka asked.

I nodded a little and took out my gem from my pocket. "I saw Mami turning this into a ring. Wonder if I can do that," I said while handing Sayaka my gem. Again, it felt like I'm being hugged when she held that thing.

"Whoa, it's pretty..." Sayaka muttered while taking a closer look at the gem.

"Let me see," Madoka said, scooting closer to see the gem up close.

The gem shaped like an egg standing on a tiny silver pedestal. The gem is pure white and it's glowing brightly. There's also these straight silver protrusions coming out of the pedestal and shielding the gem.

"Ne, Kyubei, how fragile is this thing?" Sayaka asked while handing Madoka my soul gem.

Kyubei waved his tail around. "It's quite sturdy and it'll take a lot to destroy it," he explained.

"What happen if it's destroyed? Can you make another one?" Madoka asked while admiring the gem in her hand. "Or will Haios lose her magical power?"

"A magical girl is bound to their soul gem. If the soul gem gets destroyed, the owner won't survive," Kyubei said with the same tone of someone explaining algebra.

Madoka's face paled a little and her hand started to tremble. She gently put down the soul gem on the table and took a deep breath. "Y-you mean, if we accidentally drop it Haios will..."

Sayaka looked at me in slight horror. "How are you taking this so calmly!?" She exclaimed. "If it's broken, you die!"

I shrugged a little. "Kinda expected it, really," I told her. "Besides, I've been dead before. So the prospect of dying isn't really that much threatening," I picked up my soul gem and took a closer look at it. "By the way, what will happen if I lose this? Will I die too?"

Kyubei shook his head. "No, but if it gets further than 100 meters away from you, your physical body will lose all life functions," he explained.

"Like a coma?"

"In a nutshell, yes," Kyubei replied. "So try not to lose it."

I nodded and put my soul gem into my trench coat pocket. "Don't lose the soul gem, got it!"

Then I looked back at Madoka and Sayaka. They're both still looking at me in fear and pity. "What? I mean it's obvious right? You can't just turn me into a magical girl without modifying my body in some way. This one tied my body to a magical stone of unspeakable power, it could be much worse you know?"

Madoka lowered her gaze and sighed a little. "Why did you decide to become a magical girl?" she asked.

"For the power," I told her. "That's why I didn't wish for anything. I want to become a magical girl for the sake of getting powers and experience," I explained.

"Why power?" Sayaka asked. "You could ask for anything else, riches, fame, and anything like that."

I chuckled a little. "Those things are temporary, when I die and leave this world, I will lose it. But when it comes to wisdom and experience, those are eternal inside my head," I explained. "You go ahead and wish for those stuff. Make your life count, you only live once."

Sayaka looked down in deep thought. Then she looked at Madoka sitting beside her. "Madoka, do you have a wish?"

Madoka shook her head a little. "I don't have any in particular..." she said. "Do you have a wish Sayaka chan?"

Sayaka nodded a little. "Yeah, I do... But let me think about it..."

A few seconds later, I heard footsteps coming from outside the flat. Mami arrived in her full magical girl uniform, she looks a bit tired but she's still as confident as ever. Behind her is a certain black haired magical girl who looked like a bus just ran her over.

"Hi, I'm back everyone," Mami said while sitting down in front of us. Homura sat down beside Mami and stared at me intensely. "Sorry to keep you waiting, there's been uhh..." she gave Homura a pointed look. "We had a little argument..."

Sayaka glared at Homura. "What is your problem!? You just tried to kill Kyubei and now you..." she folded her arms in front of her chest. "And you call yourself a magical girl?"

"Calm down Sayaka chan," Mami said. "Homura promised us she won't hurt us," the girl picked up a cup of tea and wiggled her pinkie a little. An invisible ribbon flashed around Homura's neck and Mami's badass index just increased by a factor of ten.

"So, Homura san..." I said. "You want to talk to me?"

Homura nodded a little. "Yes, who are you?"

"I'm Haios, I'm from another world," I told her. The girl's eyes widened a little but she didn't say anything. "You don't have to believe me and I apologize for doing the exact opposite of what you told me to do."

"Are you staying?" Homura asked.

"No, I will leave the world when I get killed or if she, don't ask, decided that I've been here for too long,"

Homura closed her eyes and sighed a little. "Time goes on across other reality huh?" she whispered.

I tilted my head in confusion. "Maybe? I don't get it, what?"

"I need your wish..." Homura said. "This is my only chance..."

"Sorry, it's theirs now, not mine," I told her simply. "And since you made a horrible first impression, you might wanna... you know, be nice, and apologize for being a complete bitch."

"Language Haios," Mami piped in.

"Sorry Mami chan."

Homura sighed a little and lowered her head. "I apologize for my rash behavior, I regret my actions I promise I will not do that again," she said.

"What do you think Sayaka, Madoka? You wanna hand over the wish? She seems like she really needs it for something," I asked the only regular girls in the room.

Sayaka folded her arms in front of her chest. "What does she want anyway?"

"I can't tell you, you won't let me," Homura said.

"Then forget it!" Sayaka exclaimed.

Homura glared at her. "Listen Sayaka... This is more than just silly magical girl dream. This isn't just about you, this is about the fate of this entire world."

"Then tell me your wish!"

"I can't, you won't believe me!"

Sayaka looked away from Homura. "Then I'm not giving you my wish," she said. "You can't have it."

Homura clenched her fist and gritted her teeth a little. The ribbon around her neck glows a little and she took a deep breath to calm herself. "Madoka," she said, making the girl flinch a little. "Please, I need your help."

Madoka shrunk down shyly. "I can't, it's also Sayaka's wish."

"Madoka."

"Homura, that's enough, you have your answer," Mami said. "Now would please leave us? You're making Magical Girl looks bad."

Homura stood up and left without another word.

"Finally..." Mami sighed in relief. She looks out the window and realized that it's almost sunset. "I think we should end this now, it's already late... We'll meet up at the cafe near school tomorrow, how about it?"

Sayaka sighed a little. "Well, guess it's enough excitement for today," she stood up and helped Madoka up. "Come on Madoka chan, Haios chan, let's go back home."

I cringed a little after hearing that. "Actually... can I stay here? Mami chan?" I lowered my head in embarrassment. "I don't have a home."

Mami put a hand over her mouth in surprise. "Where have you been living all this time?"

"Rooftops, parks that has fruit trees growing in it, park near school so I can spy on Madoka," I noticed the surprised look Madoka gave me. "More on that later, I promise."

"I suppose you can stay here," Mami said. "I'd love to have a companion every now and then."
