Chapter 8 - “I’m a professional retard!”

I soared through the witch's labyrinth with my double bladed plasma sword spinning in front of me. Hundreds of birds surrounded me from all directions. Ninja stars revolve in supersonic speed around me and sliced apart any birds that get near me.

It's really much easier than I expected you know? These guys burns like flash paper in contact with my plasma sword and ripped apart like paper with my ninja stars. All in all, I'm hoping that the witch will give me a proper challenge.

After flying through the swarms of birds, I finally made it in the witch's chamber. It is a gigantic bird cage surrounded by swarms of birds. The birds were trampled by the witch sitting inside the birdcage.

Really, knowing that these witches were once magical girls make me wonder what turns them into this sort of thing. I mean like, birdcage surrounded by swarms of birds?

"Welp, sucks being you I guess!" I exclaimed before throwing my double bladed plasma blade straight at the cage. The lightsaber slipped through the opening and struck the witch.

The witch combust in a plume of fire before exploding into tiny bits. The cage and everything else, gone and burned to ashes. Reality burns, everything burns, and I'm suddenly back in the middle of a park.

"Hmm... That's not too bad..." I muttered to myself while grabbing a grief seed. I landed back on the ground and released my transformation. "Now, just to be safe..." I took out my soul gem and put it near the grief seed. A tiny bit of black cloud appeared from my gem and into the grief seed. "There we go..."

After that, I checked the time and noticed that I still have a few hours before I should meet up with everyone at school. "Maybe some familiar hunting?" I raised my soul gem up and looked around for a moment.

A red haired girl walked towards me from a distance. She wore a light blue jacket and held a bag full of apple with one hand. She took a bite of an apple before taking out her soul gem. After a moment she narrowed her eyes and finally noticed my presence.

"Tch, you're pretty quick," the girl said in slight annoyance. "Who are you? Never seen you before."

Ah, so she's a magical girl. "I'm Haios," I took out the grief seed I found and threw it at her. She caught it with one hand and narrowed her eyes. "Take it, I still have plenty," I told her while taking out another one from my pocket.

"Generous aren't you?" she said while pocketing it. "Don't expect me to be the same though."

I shrugged a little. "I'm pretty darn efficient with my power, I don't need to use grief seed as much as most girls," then I walked closer towards her. "Say, you haven't told me your name."

"Kyoko," she took out an apple from her paper bag and threw it at me. I caught it with one hand before taking a bite out of it. "Are you new?" she asked. "Cause I gotta warn you that you shouldn't be giving up your grief seeds like that. Generosity isn't going to take you anywhere."

I smiled a little and looked up. "I'm not generous or selfish, I'm just lazy," I told her.

Kyoko tilted her head a little in slight confusion. "You're a weirdo you know that?" she asked.

"I'm a professional retard, wanna hear my wish for becoming a magical girl?" I said.

"What, what did you wish for?"

I smirked a little and leaned closer to her. "I didn't wish, I gave it to someone else..." I whispered to her.

Kyoko's eyes widened and she took a step away from me. "You're joking..."

"Ha! Nope!"

Then the girl started giggling before slowly forming into a full blown laughter. "Haha! You, you're a real professional retard aren't you?" she said amidst her laughter. "Giving up your wish for someone else?"

"Yeah, yeah, laugh all you want. At least I don't have to live my life haunted by the consequence of my wish," I told her. "I'll let someone else deal with it. See how it turns out for them."

Kyoko's laugh faltered after hearing that. She looked away from me and folded her arms. "Then why did you become a magical girl in the first place?" she asked.

"For the power, thrill of fighting monsters, and immortality," I told her. "What about you? What did you wish for?"

"None of your business," Kyoko replied.

Suddenly, I felt a pulse of light coming from my soul gem. Kyoko and I took out our soul gem in sync and glanced towards the general direction of the town library. "Huh, you think that's..." I looked at Kyoko and realized that she just transformed into her magical girl form.

"See ya retard!" Kyoko exclaimed before she start running off towards the library building.

I shrugged a little and transformed. I pushed myself off the ground and spread out my wings. Then I start soaring through the sky towards the library. It's not really that far and I can see Kyoko running towards it in supersonic speed.

I flew lower to the ground and enjoyed the flabbergasted look on her face after noticing me flying through the air. "Later slowpoke!" I exclaimed before shooting off towards the building.

The girl gritted her teeth and used her spear to launch herself to the sky. I can see her smirking at me when she's on my level before using her spear like a grappling hook to pull herself towards the building.

I landed on the building to find her leaning on the wall with a smug smirk on her face. "You think a professional retard can beat me?" she asked, though I can see that she's a tiny bit out of breath. "Though, didn't expect you to fly around like that."

"You too, you and your spear," then I looked around for any signs of the witch's labyrinth. "You think it's inside or outside?"

"Probably inside," Kyoko said and I decided to just follow her into the library.

Instead of the library, we found ourselves standing in the middle of a book hell. Sentient books flew all around us and crumpled piece of paper jumped around sporadically all over the place. The floor below us was composed of only papers and nothing more.

"Huh, that was quick..." I muttered to myself while slicing away a paper ball with my plasma blade. I looked around for Kyoko and realized that she's nowhere to be seen. "I thought we finished our race after we get here?"

For the next five minutes I walked through the labyrinth. Colorful book covers formed the floor below me. Sentient paper ball surrounded me from all sides, trying and failing miserably at taking a jump on me.

"Huh, this witch was probably a nerdy magical girl..." I muttered to myself while spinning my plasma blade and obliterating an avalanche of paper coming at my direction. "This paper balls... Bullies maybe? People ridiculing her and stuff like that?"

A stinging pain appeared from my back and I turned around. A volley of sharp pencil shot out towards my general direction and I have to start dodging. "Okay, a shield would be extremely convenient..." I muttered when a pencil grazed my cheek.

I spread my wings and used it to make my way faster through the maze. It's start raining feathers when I'm almost at the center of the maze. Hopefully it won't rain sharp pencils when I get to the middle of the maze.

After a while I found myself on top of a giant table. A bunch of origami dragon and birds surrounded me from all sides. "Huh, can't say I wasn't expecting that..." I muttered while dodging a volley of sharp paper projectiles.

I spun on the spot and threw my plasma blade straight at the paper dragon. The blade burns through the paper dragon and set it ablaze. "Is it me, or am I just very lucky that all witches are very flammable?" I commented before catching the plasma blade.

Suddenly, a red shape soared towards me from the distance. "Kyoko?" I asked after noticing her face. She stabbed her spear on to the ground and used it to stop herself. "You found the witch?"

"Took you long enough..." Kyoko muttered in slight annoyance. "Come on!"

I followed her deeper into the maze towards a giant story book. Like a portal to another world, we found ourselves in the middle of a children story book. Right in front of us is a giant paper dragon that breathes fire.

Something tells me that this dragon isn't all that flammable. "Say, Kyoko san, do you have a plan?" I asked her.

The girl readied her spear and nodded a little. "I need to get close to that thing," she looked at me and my wings. "How good are you at dodging fire balls?"

I shrugged a little and grabbed her by the shoulders. "Pretty good," I said before shooting off to the sky. Dozens of ninja stars flew all around me, destroying any sentient letters flying around us.

A huge fire ball came soaring towards us and I twirled in the sky to dodge it. Then I threw Kyoko up in the air and she shot her spear straight at the paper dragon's head. The girl then let the spear drag her before delivering a devastating kick straight at the dragon's head.

She then did a backflip and I quickly caught her in midair. "Nice!" I exclaimed. "Now let's finish this bad boy!"

I flew a few feet higher before diving off towards the dragon. I spun my plasma blade as fast as possible to block an incoming fireball. When close, I spun in midair and threw Kyoko straight at the dragon's head.

The girl builds up her power as she soared through the air like an angry comet. Her spear glows brighter and brighter in a shade of red as she gets closer and closer to the dragon. The spear impacted the dragon's head, creating a flash of red followed by a massive explosion.

Soon enough, the labyrinth crumbled away and we're back outside the library. I took a deep breath of slight exhaustion and sat down on the stair near the entrance. Kyoko sat down beside me with a grief seed in her hand.

"Okay, that was definitely tougher than usual..." I muttered to myself while taking out a grief seed out of my pocket. I held it close to me soul gem and some black mass flew out of it. "Huh, a bit more than usual..."

Kyoko took out her soul gem and it looks as dim as a Christmas light. "Yeah, it was," she used the grief seed I gave her earlier to purify it. "You live around here?" she asked.

"I'm actually a visitor from another world, so I don't really have a place to live," I told her.

"You could just say you're homeless, I'm not gonna judge," Kyoko replied.

I smirked a little at her. "Getting soft now are we?" I teased her.

The girl smacked me on the head. "Shut up, stop pushing your luck."

I chuckled a little and held up my hands in surrender. "Okay, okay, geez..." I exclaimed when Kyoko start clobbering me with her fist. "I'm just joking Kyoko chan!"

"Don't call me soft!"

"Cute then?" I asked before deflecting another slap. "Adorable?" I dodged a punch to the face. "Awesome?"

This time Kyoko stopped and nodded a little. "Well, I am awesome."

"That you are Kyoko..." I looked at the watch Homura gave me and realized I have only have half an hour left. "By the way, Kyoko chan, would you like to go on a date?"

"Excuse me?"

I shook my head a little. "No, not date, date, just a tall glass of mocha in the nearest cafe. Don't worry, I'll treat you," I explained while silently the money Homura gave me is enough.

"I rather waste money on the arcade than sitting around for coffee," Kyoko said.

"That works too! We go to the cafe then we go to the arcade and then... Well, just try not to wring me dry okay?"

Kyoko smirked a little. "Don't worry, I will."
