Max chuckled when he saw Mr. Graff was asleep in his private laboratory. He came to Mr. Graff and knocked on the table. Mr. Graff gasped and immediately lifted his head from the table. He then looked at Max, who was already in his room.
"What are you doing so early in my room?" asked Mr. Graff.
Max chuckled. "I called you many times, but you didn't answer my calls." Max's face suddenly turned serious.
Mr. Graff noticed the change in Max's facial expression. "What is the problem?"
Max took a deep breath. "Matthew's parents want to see you."
"What is it? All of a sudden?" asked Mr. Graff.
Max shrugged. "They didn't tell me."
"When are they going to see me?"
"They're in the lab now. They asked permission to enter the storage room," Max replied.
"You should have come earlier, Max." Mr. Graff immediately stood up from his seat. He brushed his hair briefly. After that, he walked out of his laboratory wearing his dark blue suit.
Max could only take a deep breath when Mr. Graff came out of his private laboratory under the storage room. "I've been trying to contact him. But he didn't answer my calls. Now, he blames me?" Max chuckled softly and followed Mr. Graff left the room.
----
Mr. Graff tidied up his appearance once more before opening the door to Matthew's storage room. He had seen Matthew's parents looking at the tube that held their son's body from outside the room. He took a deep breath and entered the room.
"This is the first time you guys have come in and seen Matthew's body in a long time, right?" asked Mr. Graff. He walked closer to Matthew's parents.
Matthew's parents turned their heads together. "Long time no see, Prof. Graff," said Matthew's father.
Mr. Graff shook Matthew's father's hand. "How are you, Mr. Williams?"
Mr. Williams nodded slowly. "I'm fine." He then released his handshake to Mr. Graff.
"You haven't been here since you brought Matthew into this facility. Although I can't deny that the money you gave has made this laboratory what it is today," said Mr. Graff.
"We want to see Matthew," Matthew's mother interrupted the conversation between her husband and Mr. Graff.
"You don't seem to have changed much, Mrs. Williams," said Mr. Graff.
"Thank you for your compliment. But I'm not here to hear those compliments. I want to know the progress you've made here. Twenty years is not a short time. But we haven't heard when Matthew will wake up again," said Mrs. Williams.
Mr. Graff cleared his throat after he heard Mrs. Williams. The woman looked calm, but Mr. Graff could tell that she was annoyed by her words.
Mr. Williams continued his wife's words. "Both of us are not young anymore. At least before we die, we want to know when our son will return from his long slumber."
"The serum I've been testing has given hope that we can wake Matthew up in the next few months," Mr. Graff.
"Don't forget the cancer cells that nearly killed him," interrupted Mr. Williams.
"With the nanotechnology, Lily is studying. She tries to find a cure for Matthew. Because it would be a waste if we woke up Matthew, but we still can't cure his illness, "explained Mr. Graff.
Mrs. Williams turned her attention to the cryonic tube that held Matthew's body. She put his hand on the small window that showed Matthew's face. "Look at him. His face looks very calm. If he can wait, we should be able to wait too. But—"
Mrs. Williams turned to Mr. Graff. "I don't have much time left."
Mr. Graff frowned as he looked at Mr. Williams was standing in front of him with a look full of astonishment. "What don't I know?"
"Jennie has just been diagnosed with the same illness as Matthew," replied Mr. Williams.
"What?" said Mr. Graff couldn't believe it.
"Therefore, now I have high hopes for you. If you can cure Matthew, I might have a chance to live a little longer," cried Mrs. Williams.
Mr. Graff took a deep breath. "Sorry, Jenny."
"I saw when Matthew's condition worsened with my own eyes. I'm not sure that I can fight this disease like Matthew. I could die at any moment," said Mrs. Williams.
"You can make choices like Matthew's," said Mr. Graff.
"If I'm also in the deep sleep phase, who will accompany Willy? I can't leave him alone," said Mrs. Williams.
Mr. Williams moved closer to his wife and put her arm around her. "I'm fine, Jenny."
Mrs. Williams looked at her husband. "I don't want to leave you alone." She then turned his attention back to Mr. Graff. "Please, quickly find the cure."
Mr. Graff sighed as he heard Mrs. Williams. "I'll work on it. But I have no word this time except you must be patient."
