Chapter 1 - The new world

"Run as far as you can, my dearest sister!" Those words haunted Amellia's mind. Those were the last words she heard from the most trusted person. The only person who she trusted blindly, shared everything with even their mother's womb.

Only she didn't know the one you trust blindly would be the one to stab a knife behind your back just for what? A man? A throne? How funny if she told her she would have given up those for her in a heartbeat.

Amellia breath hitched as she leaned on a giant tree, her breath becoming mist as soon as it touched the cold air. Her frail white gown was covered in blood. Her hands slowly held onto the rib adding pressure to her wound.

For hours since she had roamed this jungle, further away from civilization. No, she can't give up yet. She was Princess Amelia, the soon-to-be reigning and first empress ruler of her kingdom. Some lives depended on her. Death was never an option for her.

Amelia quickly scanned her wound before looking straight. If she can pull through tonight, everything will be fine. With wobbly feet, she tried to take another step. Bang!

The quiet forest echoed with foreign sounds, birds fluttering away in the distance. Amellia fell to the ground with a pool of blood forming around her. Her vision slowly turned hazy. Was it the end? After everything, why now? No! She can't die yet, she refuses to! She never believed in such a tragic ending, this was not how she wished to go down in history. She was meant for greatness, her parents told her that's why she existed!

"Nice shot!" A voice exclaimed as Amellia refused to accept her fate. A hazy figure slowly came towards Amellia.

"Hello, my dearest sister. It's so surreal to see my elegant, upright sister like this. Never knew this day would come so soon." A woman squatted down in front of her. Amellia squinted her eyes as the familiar figure became clearer. Those green eyes. Eyes of a venomous snake she fed and cared for all this time.

"W-why?" Amellia inquired in a weak voice. If she couldn't control her fate, she could at least know the reason for such a cruel fate.

Emily sneered at her question," Why? Oh! Dear sister! That's what you want to wish the last words on?" Emily leaned closer, "Very well then." She continued. "You make me sick from the day we share a womb. I was supposed to be the sole heir. But you became mother and father's precious little princess. You are an arrogant little wh*re. I promised myself that if I didn't have anything you had, I would take it or destroy it. That's how I stole your fiance, your throne, your people, and now…. Your life. You should have never been born as my little sister."

Amellia felt another sharp pain piercing her throat, as air slowly left her lungs, succumbing to her fate. Her death.

"Rot in hell, sister."

"Eva!!!" An obnoxious voice filled her ears. Amellia grunted, waiting for the noise to go away. "Evanthe Emily Cooper!!"

The voice grew louder and just more annoying, at last Amellia couldn't take it and opened her eyes. The bright light almost blinded her right at the bat. As her eyes slowly settled down, Amellia glanced at the strange woman. Her blonde hair struck out like a ray of sunlight, her blue eyes glaring at her.

Amellia stared at the unknown face, "May I ask who are you?" Amellia spoke still puzzled and dazed with her new environment.

The young woman's brows furrowed and a scoffer left her lips, "What game are you planning now? Stop being shameless, haven't you done enough? How hard is it to own up to your mistake?!" She yelled while Amellia was further confused.

Who was this woman? Where was she? Is this heaven? Hell? Amellia looked closer for wounds, maybe she survived and was now in a faraway kingdom.

Amellia's eyes scanned the strange room she was in. The pale beige wall and white furniture in a minimalist setting. It was not her room. Everything looked so dead and dreaded. How can one stay in such a room?

"Are you even listening?!!" Amellia couldn't focus as the strange woman roughly shook her shoulder bringing her out of her thoughts.

"I pardon my impoliteness, I must go back home." Amellia hurriedly got up from the bed, maybe she somehow survived it. If she did, she needed to go back to the kingdom as soon as possible, her people need her more than anything. A ruler doesn't have time to laze around.

"What the hell!" Irene's jaw clenched, seeing her friend react that way. As Amellia got up from the bed, trying to walk out of there, Irene instinctively grabbed her hair and dragged her back. "I am not done with you." Irene shovels her back onto the bed.

"You think you can put your damsel in distress act in front of me like you did in front of my brother and my fiance? Guess what? Those days are gone. I thought you would apologize after everything you did but you are still shameless. Of course, it was my fault to make friends with a mistress daughter. Stealing man is in your blood, you bloody vixen!" Irene yelled, "Stay away from me and my family, Wh*re." Irene stormed out of the room with that.

On the other hand, Amellia remained stunned at whatever occurred. She was once a reputed princess, even looking right into her eyes was considered a crime and punishable offence but there she was on the bed, manhandled by a strange woman and voices echoing in her head.

"He is my fiance and you were supposed to be my best friend. How could you do this to me?"

"Oh sweetheart, you are just for fun. What makes you think I would marry a mistress daughter over the diamond heiress? Don't kid yourself!"

"This marriage needs to be annulled. I only agreed because my sister begged me to after everything I don't see any point in it."

"Just one thing you had to do. Be a f**king wife and give birth! How hard is it?"

Memories upon memories flooded Amellia's mind. Whose memories were these? Amellia stumbled up, slowly reaching for the white door. She needs to go home, she is having strange dreams. A world she never saw.

Amellia took steps towards the door from the support of the wall, as her shaky hands reached the doorknob her eyes fell on the mirror on the wall.

That face…
