Chapter 4 - Offer for Adrian

One week later.

Amellia put down the gaudy book on the table. In the last week, she had read every history of this world. She was not in another world, just the future. The irony was Evanthe wasn't anyone but a descendant of her dearest sister and ex-fiance. The face was no coincidence. The bloodline that was created on her death. Amellia was just a mere sister who died during a revolt. Just no one.

Amellia scoffed at the fact. Just a mere nobody. The face and blood of her betrayer, what's more than ruining it to nobody like her. The bloodline of her sister ends with Eva. Mere nobodies of this world. Amellia swore to herself to end this bloodline with her hand.

"What did you call me here for?" Amellia's eyes shot up. Irene stood there in a casual sweatshirt and jeans. Amellia had learned the fashion of this world in the past few days, dressing had become different from her period. Women wear pants other than riding a horse. Not only that they have those devices which tell them everything and show people on it. Who would have thought this world would evolve this much in two centuries?

Irene sat down across her, crossing her legs. Amellia smiled, glancing at the place. World was a strange place, how fast it changed, coffee houses were not just for males for anyone to enter. The purpose remains the same. Amellia took a sip of her black tea and put down her cup back on the table.

"Why don't you order something?" Amellia smiled, trying to be as friendly as she could.

Irene snarled, folding her arms over her chest, "Just get to the point, I don't have a whole day for you."

Amellia sighed nodding to her request. "Let's be friends again."

Irene finally looked straight into her eyes, completely taking back her words. Irene couldn't help but blink and a scoff left her lips, "Become your friends? I don't become friends with cheaters. Especially the ones who have an eye on my fiance." Irene sternly remarked glaring at her.

Amellia couldn't help but roll her eyes. Something never changed even though it's been two hundred years, women blaming other women for cheating on them. They just can't accept that their man was not such innocent as they think they are.

"What do you mean breaking off engagement? It was just a mistake, Amellia. Your sister seduced me! Why are you punishing me for her sins? You are the love of my life, don't do anything rash. We are meant to be!"

Amellia almost hurled as those words popped up in her mind. Out of all the disgusting creatures to remember, he was not the one. Amellia shook her head out of the thought.

"You're getting the roles wrong. Your fiance is the one who has eyes on any woman. Just stop denying it, he is not some jewel. Our friendship means more to you than him otherwise you wouldn't be here even." Amellia blurted, taking another sip of her tea. It was stupidity. Irene was not hard to read.

She and Eva had been friends from school and this wasn't the first time Alex had done something like this to her. It was a marriage fixed by their families. From her memories, Irene was always told to love Alex no one else and the times she cried over Alex to Eva was not less than a thousand.

Irene wasn't just anyone, she was the youngest daughter of one of the richest families in the land. She had her job, which was another interesting thing Amellia noticed. Women who worked seemed more common. Any class of women could work now. In Eva's memory, Irene was a designer. She designs clothes and accessories for the wealthy. Similar to a seamstress, just her owning the business and having control. Other than that Irene seems a beauty even for her period. Then why was such a woman running after that guy? She has everything women of her time desire.

Irene glared intensely, "Don't act like you know me. If you knew me you would have not done it. " She grabbed her bag ready to leave.

"Oh! I know which is why I have an offer for you." Irene stopped, her head ploughing to the side to glance one last time at Amellia.

"If you like Alex so much I will give you the information that will make him obey you. I have no interest in him. In return I want you to help me get your brother." Amellia didn't glance up at Irene, just sipped on her drink.

Irene scoffed in disbelief, strolling closer to Amellia's chair, "I am honestly surprised how low you can get. Now that Alex doesn't want you. You want me to set you up with Hayden? Aren't you too shameless?"

Amellia smiled, her head raising to look back at Iren who was glaring at her, "Who said anything about Hayden?" Irene's brows furrowed at the puzzle. "I mean your other brother, my fault, your stepbrother, Adrian." Amellia continued.

Irene's face turned pale at the mention of the name, Amellia wasn't surprised, if Irene feared anyone, it was Adrian. As much Irene feared Adrian, she hated him too. Eva knew more than anyone that Irene wouldn't leave any chance to ruin Adrian but all these years she found not one loophole to do that.

"You want him ruined, I am the perfect candidate. If he finds out I will take the blame, and I don't have to tell what might happen." Amellia continued as Irene remained quiet.

"You think Adrian out of all men will marry you? An illegitimate daughter. Should I remind you how much he hates affairs or second marriages?" Irene scoffed.

Amellia smiled ever so gently, "Ain't I perfect then?"

"If you wish to jump off the cliff, who am I to stop? I am not helping or anything, but if you plan to follow this I will keep my mouth shut." Irene walked away finishing her sentence.

Amellia watches her friend storm out of there, slowly sipping the last bit of tea. She leaned back on her chair. The coffee house tables were separated by half-semicircular cubicles. It still gives a view of the place, it was just a sense of privacy.

"Did no one tell you listening to other conversations is bad etiquette, Mr. Harrison?"
