Chapter 16 - Gravestones

After agreeing to join the team, Suchi also started to live with Sinoca and Inamaru. His hiding place was now known by the DCU, and it was no longer safe to stay there. As they lived together, they also began training with one another. In training with the others, Suchi was able to learn about their abilities very quickly. It was clear that Inamaru was their powerhouse, but he didn't have the battle sense that he and Sinoca possessed. That is why, no matter how many times they sparred, Suchi would always win. When it came to Suchi vs Sinoca, the battles were much closer. While Sinoca was the better fighter, Suchi's abilities were a bad matchup for her. Very often, as they would spar, Suchi would end up getting Sinoca in his traps. However, if he failed at this, she would easily outclass him the moment she got close. Sinoca also often trained using her staff as opposed to using her blade. She didn't want to accidentally injure her friends in the heat of battle. After a few months of just training among themselves, the team decided to resume working with rebel armies. The first mission with one of the units went rather smoothly with Sinoca and Suchi leading the way as they raided a experimental storage house and freed all the prisoners there. The fellow rebels were impressed with the trio as they consistently made life easier for the groups they were in. One day, as the team was celebrating, the station they were staying at was once again under attack. However, because of Suchi's fog, this time, the entire area was prepared. As the generals made their way in, they were easily taken out by the rebel group. Knowing their tendencies, the rebels were already in groups to defend themselves. Suchi used his powers to cover a whose range, while Sinoca and Inamaru went around and took out the DCU fights quickly, making the fight go by fast. The rebel group got through the fight with no casualties.

"Thank you three for being here," the rebel group leader said, shaking each of the trio's hands.

"I'm sorry you guys have to relocate," Sinoca said.

"Don't worry about it," the leader answered. "We've been through worse, and we got through the fight with no casualties. That's always a win in my book. I'll let Inamaru know where we end up just in case you guys want to come by and crash."

"Sounds good," Sinoca answered as the rebels and the trio went in opposite directions.

"Well, overall, I'd say that went well," Suchi said.

"Yeah, that fog of yours is really handy," Sinoca said, "not only does it let us know when we are under attack, but we know their position and number as well."

"I'm just glad I have a chance to put it to good use," Suchi answered.

"So, where to know?" Inamaru asked, "I can build another hideout for us."

"Let's get a little further down before we decide," Suchi suggested. Suddenly, Sinoca pushed both Inamaru and Suchi before jumping back. A large blast of energy hit the ground where they were just standing.

"What was that," Inamaru said,

"Thank you for saving us," Suchi said. He then calculated the trajectory of the attack and saw a demon in the distance. "Sinoca, you think you can catch him before he runs away?" Sinoca nods. "We're right behind you." Sinoca runs after the figure that ballasted at them. The demon started rapidly firing smaller demon energy balls, but Sinoca managed to dodge around the attack. The demon started to run, but Sinoca managed to speed up and cut him off. It was a lizard-looking demon. Sinoca started to attack, but the demon managed to dodge. The demon was off-balanced as Sinoca continued to attack. Still, for some reason, Sinoca could not hit the demon. She tried speeding up, but the way the demon would contort his body would avoid every attack. The demon looked to counter with his claws, but Sinoca blocked it with his blade. The demon then opened his mouth, it was clear that it was charging its demon energy inside. The demon attempted to blast Sinoca, but she dodged out of the way. Unfortunately for her, she left herself open, and the demon kicked her in the stomach. Sinoca doubled over, but as the demon looked to follow up, he was wrapped up by Suchi's vines. Inamaru came by and punched the demon in the face. However, the demon then cut himself free and punched Inamaru in the face. The demon then chased after Suchi, but he was backing up. The demon was cutting through all of Suchi's vines easily. In the end, Sinoca came back and swiftly cut off the head of the demon right before he managed to grab Suchi.

"What was that?" Inamaru asked.

"I don't know, but whatever it is, we have to deal with it before we leave," Sinoca said.

"I guess this is going to be home for a while?" Suchi said. They walked a little further down until they found a spot that looked comfortable. As Inamaru was building an in, Sinoca was looking around the area to see if any clues were nearby. During her search, she saw what looked to be a graveyard. She ran down there to look at the tombstones. They were all blank.

"Sinoca, did you find anything?" Suchi asked, chasing behind her.

"Maybe," Sinoca said as Suchi caught up. "Look at this." Suchi looked around the graveyard, a bit confused.

"OK, what am I missing," Suchi asked.

"All of these gravestones are blank," Sinoca answered. "If someone took the time to bury all of these people, and to put the gravestones here, you would think that it would say....something."

"Are you sure you aren't reading into this too much?" Suchi suggested. "It could've been a good Samaritan that did have any information to go on."

"I don't know, you may be right Suchi," Sinoca answered. "I just have a bad feeling about this?"
