Chapter 9 - Mutated

"When did I say I am better than anyone? I think of myself as just an average human on this planet. Anyways, I understand. Haters are going to always find something in the midst of nothing to dislike someone for. You are greedy for the successes of others. I have noticed this attitude in the past but I thought it was something minor. I didn't know you were going to take it too far. All in all, I am still thankful to you for letting me see your real faces. Regarding the things you were able to successfully steal, I just have one thing to say to you. Anything that can be stolen by you wasn't meant to be mine in the first place." Roxie rebutted.

"I am not finished yet." Gloria snapped.

"And I am not interested in hearing the rest of your reasons." Roxie retorted.

She stalked towards Gloria.

"What do you think you want to do? We are in a civilized society. You can't physically assault me." Gloria shouted as she moved backwards.

On the other hand, Nelson did the opposite.

He walked towards Roxie.

Roxie's lips hooked up into a smirk.

Nelson must be thinking he was some kind of macho man or something. She was happy to prove him wrong. Besides, she wanted to punish him and Gloria together.

He was just making her job easier.

Once Nelson got into suitable range, Roxie launched into action. Her right fist punched at his cheekbone. The other hand wasn't idle either. It sent an attack towards Nelson's head too.

Her knee rose up before heading towards his manhood.

Nelson was just a normal college student. He hadn't been baptized by the experiences that came with dancing on the edge of life and death yet.

Within minutes, Nelson was on the floor groaning.

Blue and purple bruises were all over his exposed skin.

Gloria took the opportunity the clash between Roxie and Nelson created to be as far away as possible from the fight. Her face was contorted in horror.

"Don't make this job harder for me. Just come over. It will just cripple you temporarily. It is not like you will die. Man up, Gloria." Roxie sneered.

As Roxie walked towards her former roommate, Gloria inched towards the door.

"I will call the police. You won't go scot-free. Stop this now. Don't wait until things have gotten to the worst stage before you do something about it." Gloria advised.

Gloria's unsolicited advice didn't affect Roxie's plan to beat her up.

This beating would act as a form of closure for Roxie. If she meets Gloria in another world or on this earth after this incident, she wouldn't bother with her.

Gloria would just be an inconspicuous stranger. No, Gloria would be just a dirty fly on the wall.

From then on, Gloria would have nothing to do with Roxie again. As long as Gloria didn't cross the line or try to harm Roxie proactively, she would be dead to Roxie.

Suddenly, her sixth sense started blaring.

Roxie had to stop her chase.

Something was about to go horribly wrong and she didn't want to be near the focal point point of the upcoming disaster. Alas, if wishes were horses, beggars would ride.

A huge thing suddenly fell from the sky. It crushed part of the apartment and even dug a shallow hole in the ground.

Roxie stared at the thing that destroyed her apartment. It was a huge flaming rock.

She knew what this was.

It was an asteroid from outer space. Nobody know where those asteroids that caused the end of the Earth came from.

Everything was going off track. She didn't even have the time to stock the space to the fullest.

Thankfully, the Armageddon from the previous life hadn't occurred yet. If all the meteors and asteroids from space crashed down together right now like it did in the previous life, the apocalyptic system would have to make its entrance earlier.

Fortunately, there was still time to stock up on things. Now, Roxie would not take the law into account.

She would just grab what she could from all these stores and supermarkets.

The surface of the asteroid continued bubbling. Bubbles of lava appeared and popped.

Roxie headed towards the door. She had to leave fast.

"Nelson, are you okay? Nelson, what's wrong with you?" Gloria's shaky voice said.

Gloria used the opportunity that came when Roxie was observing the meteor to move closer to her boyfriend.

She wasn't at his side yet. Her voice made Roxie look over. Nelson was rising to his feet shakily. He looked normal at first but something was very wrong.

It felt like his body was a rusty machine filled with damaged screws.

His head was lowered and his hair covered most of his expression. Suddenly, Nelson straightened up and his mutated appearance was revealed.

Nelson's blue eyes had darkened.

It became a pitch black color that seemed to be the infantile version of a black hole. Red veins were in his eyes. Black veins extended out of his hair towards his face.

His fingernails weren't the normal length or color. Black claws extended out of his fingers.

Spittle dripped from his open mouth.

HIs teeth had grown longer. His tongue was bigger and more versatile too.

"Gloria. Roxie." The creature that used to be Nelson growled.

Nothing unexpected had happened except for the asteroid that crashed into their apartment. Something from the asteroid must have affected Nelson.

It might be radiation or some kind of energy. What it was specifically didn't matter.

Right now, what Roxie wanted to do was get herself out of this place at the quickest speed.

When Gloria saw her boyfriend wasn't the same anymore, she crawled backwards.

Roxie pushed the door open.

Gloria hurried in her direction.

"Roxie, save me. You didn't panic when you saw Nelson turn into that thing. Please, help me. I promise you, I would change. Help me, best friend." Gloria shouted at the top of her lungs.

Roxie didn't know if she should call Gloria shameless or stupid. After what she did to her, did Gloria expect Roxie to help her out of her predicament?

Was Gloria that naive?

Gloria should be thankful to God that Roxie wasn't even adding salt to her wounds.

"No, I don't want to help you. You seem to be very skillful in many things. Use one of your skills to help yourself." Roxie sneered before stepping out.

Nelson started approaching Gloria and Roxie. Gloria was closer to Nelson.

The pace of Nelson's approach was getting faster.

Fear clouded Gloria's face. Her crawling speed didn't matter, Nelson was covering the distance between them in a quicker speed.

A malicious gaze settled on Roxie's back. Without looking, she knew the evil look must be coming from Gloria.

Suddenly, erratic footsteps sounded and a hand grabbed Roxie's shoulders.

The hand wanted to pull her backwards but Roxie was already prepared. She used the momentum to push Gloria in Nelson's direction.

Nelson grabbed Gloria accurately and his head leaned downwards. His mouth was open and his teeth glinted.

Gloria was struggling to get out of Nelson's embrace but nothing worked.

Nelson's tongue licked his teeth before he bit down.
