Chapter 13 - Impossible

Over the next few minutes, Roxie spent all her time shopping for materials and equipments. Once she had gotten the things she needed from a store, she would go to a secluded corner. Once she was out of the range of prying eyes, she would stuff everything in her space. She kept repeating this process.

Roxie was really thankful to Pixie, the guardian of her space. Although she kept throwing everything she could into the space without any arrangement or organization, pixie helped her with that.

Pixie arranged everything in places that would not confuse her. It was a godsend.

[Times up. The apocalypse is starting.]

Roxie didn't expect the system to make an appearance once again.

She was about to go out of the last store she visited. This store was owned by a farmer. She got more seeds and other tools for agricultural use from the store.

The gray clouds overhead that seemed like they could drop down to earth anytime became darker.

Roxie retracted her outstretched leg. She held an umbrella that had been made from polyester in her hand. She was ready to find a spot to put a basic suit on if the need arises.

The store she was in had large windows. Roxie peered at the scenery outside the store.

Finally, rain started to fall.

It started as a light drizzle at first. The people moving around outside the store didn't think much of it. It seemed like the first drops of rain wasn't that acidic.

Soon, everything went downhill.

The drops of rain increased in size and their intensity multiplied too. Some of the people under the rain brought their umbrellas out. Unfortunately, the umbrellas wasn't going to save them from what was to come. The umbrellas in their hands started to melt rapidly.

The current situation was like the fuel for nightmares or an horror story. Numerous holes was burned into the surface of the umbrellas.

Once the umbrellas were scrapped, the humans that sought protection from those umbrellas was next.

The rain wasn't transparent. It was a very light green. The green color wasn't noticeable. If a person wasn't observing the raindrops specifically for differences, the green color wouldn't be seen.

People's faces began to melt. Their hair fell away. Their skin dissolved. Their clothes turned into rags and screams abounded everywhere.

It was a tragic sight.

Someone walked over to stand beside Roxie. The person looked outside the window too. Roxie glanced at the person from the corner of her eyes. It was one of the staffs manning the store.

The male staff seemed to be the adopted son of the owner of the store.

Roxie got this piece of information from another jealous staff. The staff was grumbling about favoritism under his breath.

The man's face was calm. He was looking at the situation outside the window in an indifferent manner.

It didn't look like the situation was something he did not expect. There was no fear whatsoever. Roxie had two guesses.

It was either this man was a player that had been in this world longer than she had or he was just an indigenous human with a scary willpower and mental capability.

She was leaning towards the option that he was a player.

More screams kept coming from everywhere outside the store. People were running helter-skelter. The only thing that provided a little bit of protection were buildings and cars.

The lucky humans that didn't sustain too much injuries because of the rain hurried into buildings and their cars. Everything was total chaos.

An upsetting scene was playing out a few distances away. A mother and her daughter was in the rain. Their umbrella was destroyed. The two of them was close to a car.

Since the woman was bringing her daughter towards that car, it was highly likely that the car belonged to them.

The distance between the two of them and the car was small. Since, rain reaches everywhere, that small distance might be dividing line between life and death.

Suddenly, the woman's face became cold. Her black pupils was filled with guilt and the desire to survive.

"Aisha, help mummy. Help mummy survive. Mum would gave birth to you again." The woman said.

It was hard to hear what the woman said because of the noise the rain was making. The screams that blanketed everywhere didn't help matters either.

Fortunately, Roxy was able to read the woman's moving lips. It was a little bit hard to see the woman and the scene that was playing out clearly due to the rain.

Roxie clenched her fist. There was a large distance between the store and the woman.

Besides, she was not wearing a protective suit.

She had an idea of what was going to happen but she was powerless to stop it.

She regretted staying still when she saw the woman and her daughter. She thought the woman was a good mother. She thought the woman would protect her child with her life. Roxie didn't know things will develop in this direction at all.

Although she didn't want to meddle in other people's issues, this was different. Most children were innocent. Actually, all children were innocent until they are proven guilty.

The humans in this world acted quickly. They did not even wait for the apocalypse to go on for a few days before they threw their morality to the dogs.

It was a bit hard to watch what was about to happen next.

The woman lifted the girl and faced her upwards. The rain fell directly on the little girl called Aisha. This bought an opportunity for the woman to get to the car with minimal injuries.

"Mummy! Pain. Aisha is in pain, mummy. Help Aisha blow the booboo away." The girl cried.

Roxie's fingers dug into her palms.

Pain was transmitted to her brain through her nerves but Roxy didn't pay it any heed.

She didn't blink as she watched the awful situation continue.

Aisha continued to scream and cry. Her body was melting too quickly. Within seconds, her voice died out.

The whole situation didn't even take a minute.

The woman that should have been a mother dumped Aisha's body like a waste beside the car.

She tried to start the car but something must have happened to the car engine. It didn't start up.

The material that has been used to make the car was changing color. The reprieve the woman sacrificed her daughter for was not going to last for a very long time.

The woman kept trying to start the car. Finally, the engine roared to life. The car made a weird sound as it started to move.

The woman did not try to drive away. She drove the car nearer to the store.

Obviously, she didn't want to depend on the car that might break down anytime.

Roxie's eyes was cold.

The woman in the car started gesturing to Roxie and the man beside her.

Roxie scoffed.

This woman wanted them to let her into the store.

That would be impossible.
