Chapter 10 - Time Is Running Out

A piercing scream came out of Gloria's opened mouth. The noise automatically conjured migraines for Roxie. As her head throbbed, her face darkened.

Roxie glanced backwards. The scene behind her was gory.

Nelson's two hands were wrapped around Gloria. His arms were like clamps that kept her in place. Gloria was shivering. A huge chunk of a neck gadt disappeared. Nelson wasn't bowing his head anymore. His mouth was moving as he chewed loudly.

If his biting behavior and the unending scream from Gloria hadn't been considered, an outsider might think Nelson was dining at a five star restaurant.

Nelson became what he was because of mutation. Mutation was supposed to infect. There was a strange thing going on. Gloria wasn't mutating. Roxie was done with her observation.

She moved away from the two idiots that was already getting their retribution.

"Please. Roxie, help me." Gloria shouted.

Roxie didn't look back again.

Chaotic footsteps came towards her. It didn't sound like Gloria alone. It was obvious that Nelson wouldn't let the meal that was already in his mouth go.

She hoped Gloria wouldn't keep distracting her. She did not want to think of what she would do when she was angry.

Roxie left the gated community in her fastest speed. The footsteps behind her was still following her. Nelson was useless.

When he was a human being, he was a scum and he was still useless when he turned into some kind of abominable creature too. He couldn't stop an ordinary human from following her.

Very pathetic.

"Gloria, don't follow me. This is my first and last warning. Or else, I will tear you apart before Nelson does." Roxie warned.

She didn't care if Gloria was genuinely askimg for help or trying to edge Nelson towards her. All she knew was that she didn't want to see Gloria.

Chaos was everywhere on the street. The asteroid that fell on their house didn't target their house alone. Many places was smashed in. Destruction was everywhere.

Screams came from almost every direction.

The noise was disturbing but Roxy didn't care. She walked closer to the nearest convenience store briskly. It was a little bit small but it will do.

Time was running out.

She could still hear footsteps following her but the distance between Roxie and her tail had widened.

There were still staffs in the store.

A male staff was huddled under the counter near the entrance. When he heard her footsteps, he straightened up. Roxie nodded her head in acknowledgment before walking into the store like she owned it.

"Hey! What are you doing?" The staff shouted.

Her demeanor and actions might have given him an hint of what she was about to do.

From her peripherals, Roxie could see that one part of the store was caved in by a meteorite. The surprising thing was the fact that there was no creatures like Nelson in the store. Everything was a muddy mess but there was no threats for now.

The asteroids had stopped falling so things were calm. Nobody knew this world was running on a limited time. Some people might suspect that the world was ending but humans loved hope.

Majority of this world's population would not want to believe that their home or their existence would be destroyed soon. Some people would still be governed by the sense of morality that the law fostered.

Stealing was bad but the things in this store would be useless very soon. Roxie was just helping out.
