The days went by, then weeks. I spent my days in the room, every day, rarely able to leave, Cal always bringing me my proper meals and having to leave many times a day to attend to royal matters. I usually spent my time reading the voluptuous books Cal kept in his shelves, some of them quite interesting, learning about the history of this new kingdom.
My connection to him only seemed to deepen, I felt such love to him even though I felt fear of what we may become since I am still merely a human.
Though I was still getting quite tired of being kept in this room, I rarely was able to leave the castle, and when Cal did take me anywhere, he monitored me like I could perish in any second.
"Cal, can I please leave, you haven't even let me leave this room in days." I complained.
Cal stopped writing whatever paper he was writing, turning to look at me.
"Oh my dear, you know I only keep you hear to keep you safe."
"I-I know that, but it doesn't make it any less dull to be kept here."
He sighed, walking towards me and running his hand down my cheek. "I am sorry, I've been quite busy studying, you know I will have to rule very soon, but I promise one of these days I'll be able to take you to into town, my spells are almost advanced enough for me to disguise you."
"Okay, but I can always go by myself, you don't have to watch me all of the time as if you're my parent."
"You know I can't let you do that." He said in a low tone. "This city, though as safe as it may look, there has been a lot happening in these days..."
"I can take care of myself Cal, you know?" I said, the words coming out harsher then I thought they would.
He growled lowly. "My human I know you think you can take care of yourself but you have no idea how dangerous it could be if anyone ever finds out you're a human."
I started to feel anger brewing within me, he didn't know shit. I could handle myself just fine on my own and it wasn't fair that he wouldn't trust me.
"Cal, I'm going, please. I promise, no one will find out." I said sighing.
He grabbed my arm, moving swiftly. "No you are not!" He snapped, finality in his tone.
"You don't get to make those decisions to me." I protested, trying to pull my arm out of his grip.
His hand remained clamped on my arm. "Calm down!" He snapped. "I won't allow you to put yourself in such danger!"
"Let me go!" I yelled, tugging harder.
"Calm the fuck down, you know I'm only doing this because I love you!"
I felt my anger continue to rise at Cal, he shouldn't have this damn power over me.
"Let me go! Let me go this fucking second!" I screamed.
I thrashed at him, swiping at his face, Cal grabbed my other hand, he quickly maneuvered himself, using his size to his advantage as he pinned me to the floor.
"Cal, stop it!" I shrieked.
Cal finally let his grip slacken, I jerked out of his grip, stumbling to the other side of the room.
"Shit, I'm so sorry." Cal started. "I didn't mean to be forceful like that." He cautiously started making his way towards me.
I didn't say anything for a moment. "Why don't you trust me?" I asked.
He clicked his tongue, as his tail swished around my waist softly.
"My dear human, you know I don't think that about you... it's just that I worry so much, about what might happen to you if they ever find out." He pulled me into his chest. "I don't want anything to happen to you, I know they would do such terrible things."
Cal stroked my back idly before sighing. "Please forgive me?" He inquired.
I nodded. "I understand, just promise you'll take me into town this week?"
"Of course." Cal told me with a soft smile.
I heard a knock at the door then, three soft raps at the door.
"Go, stay out of sight, I will be right back." Cal reassured me as he walked towards the door.
I went into the closet and softly closed the door. I heard Cal speaking to someone, I couldn't quite make out what they spoke about but Cal's tone seemed concerned.
"Right now?" I heard him ask. "Alright, just give me a moment all he'll him I'll be there shortly." The door closed with a click.
I stepped out of the closet. "Well it seems like my asshole of a father would like to see me, I'll be right back." He said, though I could have sworn I heard a hint of dread in his voice.
He stepped out of the room, there was indeed a feared expression on his face as he left the room.
