Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: The most perilous fate

Cal POV:

I gritted my teeth, feeling tense from anticipation as I walked the halls towards the throne room.

Everything felt wrong as I walked, the guards all seeming to avoid eye contact and the castle almost completely quiet, as if frozen in time.

My father looked bored when I entered the room, he was toying around with his necklace before he saw me.

"I've been waiting, you know I don't have time to wait for you." He said, sounding strangely calm as he spoke those words.

"I apologize."

"Well, I asked you weeks ago but you still Havnt made a fucking decision, I asked you to find a woman to marry and yet you seem to ignore me!" He snapped.

I froze, I had indeed forgotten that he had told me just that. I supposed I had just been to distracted, with the human.

"You are such a disgrace to this family, you refuse to listen to me, you remain unwed, I can barely handle keeping you alive much longer."

I swallowed, I didn't know what he meant, alive? "I-I'll try to do better."

"You've better, or else you won't be here for much longer, will you? I'll put you in the dungeons with the deranged and mindless, behind the library walls, I'll let the guards torture you, that would teach you a lesson, oh yes it would." Said my father, a grin forming on his face.

I didn't know how to respond, even as cruel as he was most of the time, he had never once threatened to kill me, do any of those awful things, something wasn't right.

"Answer me, useless bastard!" He yelled.

"I-I'll do better father."

"No you won't, you'll be to busy fucking around with your human pet, who the hell knows where you got it from. You won't do any good for anyone."

I flinched, how did he know about this?! I thought I had kept the human secret, I thought no one even knew of his existence.

He suddenly leapt out of the chair, before I could respond he had his hands around my neck, forcefully choking me, I could barely breathe.

My fear-struck eyes locked onto his. His... red eyes? His eyes had always been a deep brown, like mine.

I came to a sudden realization. "You aren't my father." I said softly.

He grinned, the corners of his lips seeming to stretch all the way back to his ears.

"You're damn right I'm not, I'm surprised it took you so long to realize just that."

I watched as his skin started melting off his face, falling into sludge before falling onto the floor, revealing the black and shadowed true form.

It wasn't my father at all, it was a shadow.

"Your pathetic father barely put up a fight with me as I took his body, he barely had the chance to, and now I will make sure your pathetic kingdom will burn to the ground like it should have."
