I was still in shock.
"How long have you been impersonating him?" I asked trying to keep my voice level.
The shadow chuckled. "I've had his body taken over for weeks, the pretentious bastard could barely put up a fight, such a lazy asshole he was."
The shadow chuckled again, seeming amused with itself. I tried quickly pulling myself out of its grip, trying to pull its hands off my neck.
"Oh not so fast." It said, almost playfully.
Its hands gripped my neck harder. I gasped, choking and straining for air, my body seizing.
The shadow laughed, lifting me up with impossible strength. "It would be so humorous, for you to suffer the same fate as your pathetic father, wouldn't it child?"
I gripped its hands around my neck, pulling with all my strength, trying to detach its hands from me. It had an iron grip. I growled in frustration, I had never had to put up this much of a fight, I was used to being stronger than my opponent.
The shadow threw me to the ground, letting go of my throat. I gasped, breathing in greedily as I collapsed to the ground.
Within a few seconds it had already gotten to me again, it grabbed my torso, slamming me into the wall, pinning me to it and holding my hands behind my back.
"It's so fun to see you try to evade me like this, you're so weak just like your father."
I roared, jerking myself backwards. The shadow quickly twisted me around, flinging me down, my leg slamming painfully on the ground.
I shuddered, my ears pulled back on my head. It felt almost pointless. I tried summoning my magic, the blue electrical currents of light, barely able to be conjured. It would quickly drain my energy, I had to act quickly.
I sent a quick blast of electricity towards the shadow, it smashed into its face. The shadow screeched, the horrible static sound now loud and prevalent.
The guards faces then began to morph, their possessed hosts melting away, the sludge of their flesh and blood slopping onto the floor, the shadows beneath were ready to fight.
I got to my feet, sprinting across the hallways. I had to get the human, and get the hell out.
Hyrus POV:
Cal burst into the room not even ten minutes later.
"Cal, what's wrong? you look frazzled." I remarked.
"My dear I am sorry but we must leave at once, it isn't safe!" He said, clearly struggling to keep his voice level, he was obviously terrified.
"W-what's wrong?"
"The shadows, they're in this fucking castle right now! Enough of this, we have to leave!"
Cal sprinted towards me, he quickly grabbed my waist, pulling me quickly and firmly to his chest. He carried me across the room, flinging open the window, he leapt out, his wings flashing into being.
His wings flapped furiously, sending us careening over the city, giving us full view of the town below.
My eyes widened. The horrible creatures, like the one from the lake we had been at weeks prior were running rampant through the city, I could see them sending innocent families from their homes, slashing their faces and consuming them whole, their fangs ripping open flesh and bone.
I heard Cal stutter in disbelief at the carnage, at the rampage of the creatures tearing apart the city.
I felt a dropping sensation in my stomach, as Cal suddenly dove down at the far end of the city, quickly pulling upwards so we wouldn't crash.
He set me down gently, pain in his eyes.
"Cal, why are you leaving me here?"
"I am so sorry my dear, I have to fight for my people." He paused, swallowing thickly. "Please stay safe here, don't leave and please don't look for me. I have had some of the most happy moments with you, I hope I'll see you again... but I can't garentee I'll be able to survive.."
He looked almost as if he were about to cry, but was holding back his emotions from becoming visible.
He suddenly pulled me into him, slamming my lips onto his muzzle, grabbing the back of my head forcefully.
"I love you." He said softly as he pulled away, leaping into the sky and flying back into the city.
