"Thanks". She quickly got out of his hold and ran out of the hall.
Tears flowed down her cheeks, she kept thinking if it was actually Jai she had meant or someone else who had his resemblance.
"Oh shit, I'm so famished". Mrs Charles yawned on stepping into the house.
"You left so quickly". She said to Amelia.
"Yes, I was already getting sick and tired". Amelia said, her face filled with mixed feelings.
"What's this, you drafted out another application already". Mrs Charles said, picking up the envelope which was beside Amelia.
"No mom, it's nothing, just give it back". Amelia said she stood up to collect the envelope from her mom but she only kept on making her move round in circles.
"Fine! You have it". Amelia said, exhausted.
"So tell me, what was the name of the company you had seen so quickly?". Mrs Charles asked teasingly, opening the envelope.
"I did not get a job, just don't open the envelope". Amelia pleaded with her, the fact of how she was going to feel when she gets to find out that she had sneaked the application from Mrs Alex pause would make her go mad at her.
"Why should I not?". Mrs Charles asked her, having a firm look on her face.
"If you say so, I would not invade your privacy". She said dropping the envelope on the table.
"And I'm glad you are taking good steps on securing another job". She said with a smile.
"No need for appreciation". Amelia said, heaving a sigh of relief.
"What so special about the application that we should not get to know". Amber's voice trailed from afar as she stepped into the sitting room.
"Don't you dare". Amelia threatened, she stood up to grab the envelope but was not quick enough as Amber swift the envelope from her hand tearing it open.
"Do you mind if I do the honor or read it aloud". She asked teasingly, unfolding the paper which was inside the envelope.
"You don't have to be so sad about that, I would get you another envelope". Mrs Charles said to Amelia.
Amber held the paper for some few seconds, her eyes scanning through it, she finally lifted up her head, having a surprise look in her eyes.
"This does not seem to be yours, none of the details in this letter is referring to you". She said, throwing the letter on the floor.
Amelia froze in shock, age quickly picked up the letter and glanced through it. She surely had picked the wrong envelope, the letter does not belong to her, it was meant for someone else, how was she going to fix that.
"What's wrong with the letter?". Mrs Charles asked inquisitively, picking up the letter from the floor. She did not seem shocked or surprised after reading through it the way Amelia felt.
"I think you were being delivered the wrong envelope. Maybe the postman made the mistake and has dropped yours at the wrong address". Mrs Charles suggested, unaware of what exactly had happened.
"How do I fix this mess?". Amelia said only to her hearing.
"Why are you crying, the letter was not even meant for you, it was only being delivered wrongly". Mrs Charles said again.
"I don't think so". Amber objected to her mom's suggestion.
"Why? I do think so". Mrs Charles said again, still holding firm to her assumption.
"Amelia came home with it, so I think the person who delivered it to her did not make any mistakes during delivery". Amber said, having a sneer on her face.
"It could still be a mistake!". Mrs Charles shouted angrily.
"Then you go ahead and ask her, she has been silent all while long without making any statement". Amber said, a smirk on her face.
"Can you explain? You can't be quiet when all this is about you". Mrs Charles said, her gaze shifted to Amelia.
"There's nothing for me to explain". Amelia said, she stood up and left to avoid listening to their continuous suggestions.
She stood by her window watching the sky.
"Mom! Is there anything special about the stars today?". Jasmine's voice brought her back from her thoughts.
"No honey, I just felt like watching how they twinkled once more before going to bed". She said, having a smile on her face as she turned to her.
"Really?". Jasmine asked with a wide smile on her face.
"Sure". Amelia nodded.
"It had been a long time since I did so, I was just your age then". She said,
"Would you like to join me?". She asked her.
"Yes". She said, climbing onto the chair close to Amelia.
Amelia stared at Jasmine who had fallen asleep in less than an hour. She lifted her up gently as she laid her on her bed to sleep.
"If only your dad would come around someday". She said, her hand stroking her hair as tears flowed through her cheeks.
"Wake up, it's morning already you are going to be late". Mrs Charles shouted from outside as she hit hard on Amelia's door.
"What could be wrong with mom this time around, have she forgotten I had quit my job for two weeks". Amelia sighed heavily as she got off the bed.
"Hey! Go get your bath and also get dressed quickly. Try putting on something nice and moderate". Mrs Charles said she was really excited and no one could tell it was traced.
"What is going on? Have you fixed an appointment for me again without my consent?". Amelia asked angrily as that was the only trace she had in mind.
"Get all dressed first, I would let you know once you are all dressed". Mrs Charles said.
"At least can I know where i'm going to before you just push me around!". She shouted angrily.
"I told you, I would let you know when you are all dressed". Mrs Charles yelled back at her.
"No when we get into the car". She chuckled.
"Then you have the whole day to wait". Amelia said reluctantly as she sat on the couch.
"If you insist". Mrs Charles said,
"Do you still recall your application which I submitted?". Mrs Charles stressed, thinking she had forgotten about it.
"The application was favored?". Amelia asked in surprise.
