Amber could feel her cheeks burn as Jai approached closer. She should have come more better prepared than she was.
"Good morning Mr Robert". She greeted him quickly, her heart still thumbing fast as she thought of what was going to be the outcome of her visit.
"Good morning, what an unexpected visit". Jai said, a smile on his face.
"I came to thank you once more about the previous day". She said quickly before he could ask about her reason for showing up.
"I see". Jai said, his voice cold and his look steady as he nodded his head to it.
Amber could feel shivers run down her spine, she had nothing more to say. She bent her head, thinking of what to say next.
"I guess I should be leaving". She said, getting up on her feet quickly, she has surely made a fool of herself by coming over.
"I think it's too early". Jai's soft voice called out to her.
"Uhhh". She stammered.
"Except you are in a haste". He said, thrusting his hand into his pocket.
"No no, I'm not". She hesitated.
"Would you like to have a coffee?". Jai asked.
"Yes". She said reluctantly, falling back on the couch.
She sat tensed, her eyes narrowing round, in less than a minute a maid brought her a mug of steaming coffee.
"How about you treat me to a meal". Jai's voice trailed as he approached where Amber was sitting.
"A meal?". She choked
"Yeah, you have been looking for a way to make it up to me, so I guess a meal would do just right". He said, his chin held high.
"If you say so". Amber accepted without a second thought about it.
"Would you love to stay a bit longer?". Jai asked.
Amber hesitated, she was already getting used to the environment.
"If I'm permitted to". She said, trying to remain stable.
"Guess what". Amber said to Calla, her face beaming with a smile.
"What? You are always full of surprises and you know how bad I am at guessing". Calla said, letting out a huge sigh.
"Ok". Amber blushed.
"Can you be quicker and put my spirited soul to rest". She pressed further, hoping Amelia would get quick with whatever she had to say.
"I met some sort of guy a few days ago". She said, a smile playing on her lips.
"Wow, don't you think this is too early after Alex breakup?". Calla asked, her face looking worried.
Amelia giggled,
"There's nothing to worry about, I surely know how to toss my dice". Her smile lessened.
"It was actually the night after I broke up with Alex ." She said, her face clueless.
"Did things happen between you both?". Calla asked curiously, her eyes became wider.
"No, he was kind of generous, he dropped me off, although I was such a fool to not recall every bit of what might have transpired between us". She said, her face now looking pale.
"Then how did you both reconnect again, since you never recalled any bit of him". Calla said, her face filled with expectations.
"I left my ID with him which he returned to me the next day". Amelia stated.
"Then he must really be a nice guy then". A smile formed on Calla's face.
"What a nice catch". She said, the smile on her face had faded away.
"How about your sister?". Calla asked, when they were left with nothing else to discuss.
"She got the job, I hope she's coping fine, haven't talked to her about it because I don't care to know either". She said, a sneer on her face.
*************
Amelia was beginning to adapt to her new work environment, it was so tough for her during the first two weeks but she was already getting a hang of it already.
"You have really done a great job since you joined us". Mrs Alex complemented Amelia.
"Thanks Ma'am".
"Have you gotten the analysis for the new project?". She asked.
"It's going to be ready by tomorrow, I just need to round up the total summary". Amelia said she tried being calculative to avoid any errors.
"Then you have to be fast, we would be needing that by the next meeting". Mrs Alex said.
"I will". Amelia said, getting up from the chair.
"I won't be in tomorrow, I have a meeting to attend so I expect you to submit your final analysis to Mr Fred while I have the rough sketch". Mrs Alex said just as Amelia was about to step out.
Amelia narrowed her eyes around, she had not yet drawn a sketch not to think of completing the final analysis, she had just said all those in order not to break Mrs Alex expectations knowing full well that she was going to create a way to finish up after completing other tasks.
"Ok Ma'am". She managed to stammer out without looking back.
Amelia fell on her bed feeling flustered, she still had a lot to do, she had been able to manage through the first few weeks, she just hoped things would grow better rather than worse.
"Come over and have dinner". Mrs Charles called out to Amelia.
"You need to eat very well to have a lot of strength to carry out all your assignments". She said dishing a plate of rice over to Amelia.
"I would get something lighter". She said, stepping towards the freeze.
"Stop this attitude of yours, you could get ill if you keep on doing this with your meal".
"You could give my meal to Jasmine, she surely love those". She brought out a can of coke and closed the freezer moving back to the dining table.
"How's your work going, should we be expecting another letter?". Amber asked mockingly.
"I definitely do not have time for your talks from the look of things". Amelia sneered at her.
"But I do and you should". Amber said, still having the mocking look on her face.
"You could do it some other time". Amelia said, getting up on her feet and packing up her stuff.
Amber picked up her phone, letting out a huge sigh. She just got a text from Jai.
*I would be waiting for you at the fixed point*.
Her heart skipped after reading the text. She really had to get prepared for it.
