Amber's eyes widened in bewilderment, did Jai really expect her to quit her job all of a sudden.
"Why are you so quiet?". Jai asked when Amber was yet to reply.
"What kind of a weird suggestion is that?". Amber asked, a lump in her throat.
"It's not a weird suggestion, I think it's going to help you a lot if you think about it carefully". Jai said, leaning forward and bridging the distance between the both of them.
"I don't know about that". Amber said, her breath becoming hard as she tried to maintain her composure.
"I would leave you to that". Jai said moving backward.
"Phew". Amber heaved a huge sigh.
"But". His back faced towards her, Amber's heart beat increased as she thought of what next he was about to say.
"You would attend the meeting tomorrow". He said, turning round to face her again.
Amber was speechless, she could have just declined the offer immediately but she wouldn't, that was her only opportunity to get closer to Jai and know him more. She never felt the impact of Alex's breakup anytime he was around her.
"Sure". She nodded her head, not having anything else to say, trapped in between.
"And for the other". He paused, his gaze locked on her.
"You only have seven days to give me a reply". He said.
"Seven days!". Amber shouted out in dismay.
"Is it too much? Would you mind subtracting a day or two from it?". Jai said teasingly, his chin held high and an unknown smile capped on his face.
"Have you gone nuts? That's too little for me to make a decision". Amber said, her voice raised up.
"I don't think so, you are so smart and would be able to figure out a positive decision before the deadline". He said.
"How could you lay a complication before me and give me a deadline to your own suggestion which I never gave in to". Amber said, her face fusing with anger.
"I can't give an answer to that, your name has already been included on my project and you do not have any excuses to state for any absence". He said, moving back to settle on his chair.
"Are you home now?". Amber asked immediately. Calla answered the phone.
"No, I'm busy and won't suggest you come over to my work place either". Calla said,
"Could we meet later in the day, we really need to talk". Amber said, her voice pleading.
"That's fine, send me the time when you've fixed one". Calla said, hanging up.
Amber and Calla sat at a table, Amber was yet to state the purpose of calling her.
"So what is it you wanted us to talk about?". Calla asked, munching on the biscuit on the table.
"Things just keep getting messy and I'm finding it hard to make some decisions". Amber said, her voice pale.
"What happened?". Calla asked curiously.
"Jai wants me to quit from where I'm working and work at his company". She said, her eyes searching Calla's to see her reaction.
"And why would you do that?". Calla asked, her face with fury.
"He offered me to become part of his company project which I accepted". Amber said,
"You did what?". Calla shouted, without letting Amber finish up.
"Have you gone nuts, what has this guy done to you that you suddenly believe in him". She said, bringing down the pitch of her voice.
"I know I know, just calm down I got things under control". Amber said, motioning to her to reduce her voice.
"You've got things under control, I don't give a doubt to that but what would you do when he wants you to back off from the company later". Calla said, crossing her arms over her chest.
"I would get another job". She snapped.
Calla chuckled softly.
"You say it 's so easy to get one almost immediately you lose one".
"Because I believe he won't do such a thing of such". She said, her voice convincing.
"Why have you suddenly begun to have faith in this guy, you only met a few days ago and he is not to be trustworthy?". Calla stars plainly.
"Why do you think so? I have observed him for the little period of time since we met and I know how can't do such a thing, not after he offered me a job of his own will". Amber said, rolling her eyes.
"What are you suddenly against without even meeting him?". She asked, her voice compassionate.
"Because I can tell that he's only playing a shallow trick on you and would soon get you abandoned once he has what he wants". Calla said, still yet to be convinced by all of Amber's words.
"I get it". Amber said, biting her lip.
"You do!". Calla exclaimed.
"Maybe you are just saying all this looking for a way to see him and probably get closer to him and make me look like the foolish one". Amber said, nodding her head, her face looking serious and her voice with a little pinch of anger.
"What? Why would I ever think of that". Calla exclaimed, her eyes widened in disbelief.
"Because that's what most girls do to their friends". Amber said, flickering.
"Shit". Calla hissed loudly.
"I still trust you and hope you do not do such a thing". Amber said teasingly, a smile on her lips.
"I can really tell you've gone nuts". Calla said.
"I was only joking". Amber said, letting out a loud laugh which seemed endless.
"You were what!". Call exclaimed in surprise, her face filled with a slight anger.
"How could you ever believe if I told you that, I was only joking and wanted to see your reaction". Amber said, her laughter subsided.
Calla giggled
"You are such a jerk". She said,
"Hey, Amber". Alex called out.
Amber lifted up her head to see who had called her, she became darkened at the sight of Alex standing before her.
