The morning sun pierced through the heavy curtains, painting thin streaks of light across the room. Nathan sat at the kitchen table; his eyes fixed on the untouched cup of coffee in front of him. His mind filled with questions that had no easy answers. Across from him, Scarlett leaned against the kitchen cabinet, her arms crossed tightly over her chest as if shielding herself from the weight of their reality.
Victoria had left early to meet Caroline at the estate.
Nathan finally broke the silence. "You really think she's telling the truth?"
Scarlett hesitated; her look faced to the floor.
"I don't know. But I know what fear looks like, Nathan. And she's terrified."
Nathan ran a hand through his hair, frustration obvious on his face.
"Fear can be a weapon, Scarlett. Grayson knows how to use it better than anyone."
Scarlett stepped closer; her voice soft but firm.
