Atohi, Waya, Chhaya, and I all attend the same small college. We are pretty much-labeled school freaks. It is self-evident that the others answer to me and it's bizarre to the other students they don't understand and know why. It looks like a creepy game of dominant and submissive no one knows why it's going on. We can't tell humans all the creatures and fairy tales exist. That werewolves roam the night and demons escape from hell. Nobody would understand. Fuck, I don't even understand.
Except for Chhaya. The students were still curious about her. She's new even to the school. There are some who think they can save her to warn us about how mysterious and creepy we are.
I see Chhaya walking down the hallway, the pathetic little thing stares at her feet when she walks hardly even watching where she's going. I grunt in frustration. My interactions with her are going to look the strangest of all. I swallow hard.
"Chhaya." She looks up at me. I notice everyone in the room looking at me, even some of the teachers are curious about what's happening.
On campus, the pack members know they do not see me as the Alpha. However, they also understand that they are required to follow the rules at school, and if something is not acceptable, I will find out and they will be held accountable for it.
"Yona." She smiles.
"Confidence, face forward, and smile when you walk."
"Her cheeks turn red." I gently move the hair from her face.
"I will try. "
"I think everyone is so curious because you are so beautiful."
This time, her eyes are fixed on me, and I can see the confusion in them. I don't believe it's because I called her beautiful; rather, it's because she doesn't see herself that way.
She bites her lip.
The bell rings interrupting our interactions and we both dash to class.
Many eyes are upon me as I enter the classroom. I look like a man on drugs. Mainly surviving on the use of caffeine.
I take my seat which was coincidentally behind Chhaya. All the male's eyes in the room are on her. I have to admit she was absolutely breathtaking. Her long brown hair went way past her shoulders and her caramel brown eyes sparkled. She was small built which made her appear more fragile.
"Hey, I am Mike."
I roll my eyes hearing his voice approach her. I must admit I feel protective over her. I would like to say it was only because I was her Alpha, but it's probably because I was her friend.
Mike was a school jock. Athletic, arrogant, the total package.
She smiles at him. "Hey."
Wow, that was more confident. I know I told her to be more confident, but not with Mike.
"You are very pretty," he tells her.
Luckily, the teacher enters the classroom, interrupts their interactions, and prevents me from getting involved. Mike makes his way to his seat, and I silently wish he would trip on his way there.
"Chhaya, would you have anything you want to tell the class about you? The floor is yours," Mr Anderson says, approaching his desk.
An awkward silence flies in the class. Why would a teacher do that, doesn't understand shyness? I know she's terrified.
"My name is Chhaya, well ah."
"Chhaya is a family friend and is a brilliant guitarist." I didn't want to speak up, but I knew I had to protect her from awkward looks.
She turns to smile at me silently thanking me.
"Oh yeah?" Mr Anderson says.
Chhaya nods.
"I think that's very attractive," Mike pipes up.
I roll my eyes.
