Chapter 6 - Chapter Six

Chhaya and I sat by the fireplace looking up at the twinkling stars. It was a beautiful night with a nice full moon.

"Were you performing for Cedric, Colton, and Connor?"Chhaya eyes me.

"What do you mean?'

"Do you like me, or was it all an act?"

I lick my lips for a moment growing a little uncomfortable, why is she asking me this?

"Don't worry, it was a stupid question," she stands up to leave, her gaze dropping to mine.

"Chhaya, wait." I reach out my hand to her, hoping she will give me another chance to honestly answer the question.

She turns to face me, the shyness still showing on her cheeks.

"I think you're beautiful, and I'm very attracted to you. However, I believe it would be unwise for us to get involved with someone who isn't meant for us. Soon, our lives will be dedicated to other people, and nobody wants to deal with a love triangle."

She nods.

I see the disappointment on her face. In all honesty, I feel a little disappointed too.

"I know you never like somebody like me."

Just hearing her say the words ate at my soul because it couldn't be furthest from the truth.

"Chhaya, don't disregard everything I just said.

I see her eyes hit the ground.

I've just explained to you that I like you very much. However, I can't see us getting hurt when we find our mates.

"Yeah," she says.

My eyes watched as she walked away. Waya and Atohi came walking up slowly. I'm sure they could analyze the dialect between me and Chhaya.

"What's our mission tonight Alpha?" Waya asks sarcastically.

"I guess wait for more attacks."

"Let Cedric, Colton, and Connor handle the attacks, they're always first at the scene," Atohi tells me.

"Cedric, Colton, and Connor need to start handling their own business and mine theirs."

"With you and Chhaya?" Waya laughs, and Atohi shortly joins the mockery.

"There's nothing between me and her, I was just trying to get her out of a sticky situation."

"Maybe being put in some situations will lose her up a bit and make her less shy," Waya says with a grin from ear to ear.

"Wipe the smirk off your face." I glare at him.

I turned to leave, deciding it would be best to take a walk through the woods, taking in nature and the fresh air.

"Alpha", I hear Atohi's voice.

I turned to face him and could tell he was having trouble with his next words by the way his eyebrows were crossed.

"Atohi."

"I'm going to stay with Jane tonight just outside the cemetery."

"Please tell me you're joking, saying that you're staying the night in the cemetery with a demon," I say hoping he doesn't notice the demeanor in my face of sheer annoyance.

"She won't hurt me."

"What about the others?"

"We have been killing demons for months. I know exactly what to do," he argues with me.

"No." I feel my face turning red.

"Seriously, I am not Chhaya, I don't need your protection."

"Just bring her here, Atohi." I nearly hissed the words, my eyes never leaving his.

"Fine." I watch as he crosses his arms over his chest. Maybe it's Atohi. Who's going to challenge my authority over this pack?
