Chapter 7 - Chapter 7

David looked at the targets, five targets were set in a far distance from him, and he then looked back at the gun.

To shoot the targets would have been easy for David some years back but now he has not held a gun for a long time so he did not know if he would make the target correctly.

He held the gun upward and aimed at the targets, his hands were suddenly wet and the gun became slippery.

He was about to pull the trigger, "Wait!" Leonard stopped him.

Both David and Herald wondered why Leonard stopped him but at least David was relieved for the moment. "Come on now, after all the time you wasted and after everything your uncle have told me about you, you don't expect to shoot those targets like this, anyone can shoot those targets even a beginner."

Leonard gave his guard a sign to get something. Herald was wondering what he was up to now and David was confused.

The guard reached into his pocket and brought out a blindfold, "Let's make this more challenging," Leonard said. "Blindfold the kid."

"Wait!" David immediately turned to his uncle, "Seriously?"

"I know you can do it, you just have to focus." Herald assured him.

The guard blindfolded him but before he did, David took a quick glance at the targets. He could not see anything, but he knew were the targets where. He knew that it will be hard and so he lost confident.

He lifted the gun upwards, aimed at the targets and then closed his eyes and remembered when he was practicing with his father behind their house.

It was the first time his father taught him. He was holding the gun the wrong way and his father came close to him, held his hands and helped him hold the gun. "You hold the gun like this." His father said as he held the gun strongly with David's hands. "Focus on the targets, nothing should be on your mind, the only thing you can see are those bottles over there and the gun. Make sure you are steady, no distraction, take deep breath." Young David took a deep breath and then David also took a deep breath. "Now shoot." His father said.

Young David shot and at the same time David shot the targets, remembering made it seem like his father was there with him telling him what to do. David shot all five targets in four seconds without missing any.

Leonard was surprised and impressed, even the guard could not believe what he just saw. Herald smiled knowing that he could do it. David removed the blindfold to see what he did, and then Leonard started to clap his hands slowly and walked close to David.

"To be honest I did not believe that you could do it but now you have proven me wrong."

Leonard turned to the guard, stretched his hands out and the guard brought a small bag.

"Take this." Leonard gave the bag to David.

David slowly took the bag, opened it, and saw a huge amount of money inside.

"You impressed me today, and that is just for joining us, you will get more if you keep on proving yourself." Leonard said.

David could not believe the amount of money that was in the bag. Herald was relieved.

"Now you can go." Leonard said and turned to Herald. "And also Herald, bring him over to me tomorrow, I have an assignment for him."

Herald nodded his head. "Come let's go." He told David.

David wondered what the assignment was, but it did not bother him at all, all he could think about was the money he was holding in his hand.

As they were about to go, David handed the gun back to Leonard.

"No no keep it, it's yours." Leonard refused the gun.

David looked at the gun and kept it. David and his uncle walked out of the building and went home.

Herald was glad that David can now get money but he was also worried about what he just got him into.

Back at the apartment, David was lying down on his bed thinking about today. Many things were going through his mind and he could only focus on the amount of money he got. He was angry with himself and at the same happy.

He was angry because of what he just got into and happy because for the first time he had finally been appreciated for his real talents. He turned his head, looked at the gun on the stool next to his bed, he stretches his hand to grab the gun. He held the gun and continued to think.

While he thought, he notice that herald was standing at his door leaning comfortably.

"You know if you want to say something you are welcome to or are you going to stand there all night?" David said with a straight face.

"I did that to help you."

"Yeah, bringing me into a dangerous drug dealing group is helping me." David said immediately.

Herald stood straight, "Look, I don't know what else to say to you but I promise when you've settled and you are okay I will get you out the cartel."

"Do you think I am that naive? I know this kind of things, once you are in, there is no going back, no quitting."

"I'm the lieutenant, with the power I have I know that I can get you out."

Without letting David say anything else, Leonard said. "Get some rest, we will need to go early tomorrow. He doesn't like it when people are late."

"Of course he doesn't." David murmured while Herald walked away.

The next morning David was woken up by a loud banging on his door

"Wake up!" Herald said while he banged on David's door. "We are going to be late." He continued.

It took some time before David got himself.

"Get prepared, I will be waiting for you and don't waste time." Herald said as he walked away from the door.

David went on to freshen up. He went the bathroom and took a shower. When he finished, he went to meet Herald who was at the front door of the apartment. Herald was leaning on the door with his face down as David walked in front of him.

Herald raised his head. "Come on lets go unless well will be late." He said while he opened the door.
