Herald ran to David. And just as David was about to reach the door, Herald got to him and grabbed him by the hand and stopped him.
"What are you doing? you can't just walk away from him like that." Herald said.
David was furious and all he wanted was to leave.
"So you deal with drug and you basically run a cartel."
"Look, I know this a lot to take in right now but you have to listen to me." Herald said trying to convince David.
"Listen to you? All this years you did this and you didn't even tell me anything." David said. "Now I understand why dad didn't want you near me as a child."
David's father did not have anything to do with Herald because he knew what Herald did for a living. During every family program, he would not invite Herald and he never allowed him to visit.
"I am not proud of what I do and I have my reasons for doing it but now it is not about me but about you."
"How is this about me?" David asked angrily.
"What are you going to do for the rest of life? Are you going to be living with me and I'm I going to take care of you forever. Someday I'm not going to be around anymore and then you are going to be alone."
"I am not going to be alone I still have Jeremy."
"Well one day Jeremy is going to marry and then he is going to have a family to take care of, do you think he is going to think of you then?"
Herald made a lot of sense but David still did not want to listen to him.
"I don't care." David said.
"Well one day you are going to care. I am giving you an opportunity to do something with your life."
"An opportunity! You are asking me to join a cartel. My father would never want this".
"Your father is dead and he can't want anything now can he?
"Don't talk about my father like that." David got angrier.
"He was my brother too and let assumed on what he wants, do you think he would want his only son to waste his life and only depend on his friend? Do you think he would want that?" Herald asked. "Look, doing this is going to help you a lot and I know you can do it."
Finally, David was calm and started to think.
"What if I'm not good at doing this?" David asked with concern.
"I have seen what you can do with a gun so I know you can do this." Herald assured him. "And after a few years, if you want to quit you can and go back to living a normal life."
Herald knew that when you joined the business it will not be easy to come out of it but he just said that to persuade David and from the look on David face, Herald knew he had done that.
"Come on let us go back, Leonard must be really pissed off." Herald said as he waited for David to walk.
David was not in his correct mind, so many things were bothering him, he could not say no to his uncle anymore because he knew that in a way his uncle was right.
"Alright." David said.
David walked back to Leonard and Herald followed him behind. Herald was supposed to be glad he managed to convince David, but seeing how David felt was not right.
When they got close to Leonard, Leonard saw them and smile "You're back, that's a relief and I almost though that I would have to kill you."
"What!" David turned to his uncle "Is he serious?"
Herald did not reply. "If you denied the offer do you really expect me to let you go after telling you who I am and showing you this place?" Leonard replied.
David turned to his uncle again with annoyance, "So I never even had a choice."
"No one really have a choice in this life." Herald said.
"Typical." David said
"Okay now, enough talk, let's see what you got, we have already wasted a hell of a time." Leonard turned to his guard behind him. "Go get the targets so we can get this over with."
The guard went to the other end of the building to get the targets. David watched as the guard brought the targets and he was surprise that he did not see those targets at the end of the building until now. He was confused with why Leonard would ask to bring the targets.
"What's happing now? Why does he need the targets?" David asked his uncle.
Leonard intruded, "Well your uncle says you have a gift, so I want to see the gift myself."
David got furious at Leonard for intruding in the questions he has being asking his uncle. "I wasn't asking you, is this what you do, intrude when two people are talking." David said.
Leonard frowns, "Herald I think you need to teach your kid here some respect. Boy, if not for your uncle I would have put a bullet through your head, so let's make sure we are on the same page here."
"David you have to behave yourself and show some respect." Herald said to David.
David knew that he did not have any respect for him and he did not think he would ever have, but he just had to play along for the sake of his uncle.
The guard was almost done setting the targets and David started to wonder.
"How are you sure that I am going to make these targets? I haven't even touched a gun in years." David said to his uncle.
David stopped practicing shooting when his father died because doing that would remind him of his father.
"Look I know you can do it, just because you haven't done it in years doesn't mean you will forget because it is in your blood." Herald assured him.
The guard just finished and Leonard reached into his pants, brought out a gun, and handed it to David.
As soon as Leonard brought the gun out, memories started to pop up inside David head, he remembered when his father gave him his first gun, he remembered how little he was, he did not even know what it was and how to use it at that age.
"Go on, take the gun." Leonard said.
David slowly took the gun and he looked at it.
"Go on." Leonard said.
