Herald did not inform David about his decision because he knew that David would definitely not agree to it and so he went back to his apartment.
He got home, opened the door and walked into the apartment. It was dark and the light bulbs were switched off. He decided to go to David's room to check up on him without switching on the lights.
He walked to the door and opened it slowly so not to wake David up in case he was asleep. The door was open and he just took one-step in.
David was lying on the bed facing the other side so Herald assumed that David was sleeping and not to disturb him, he stood there.
As he watch David sleep, his arms were in his pockets, and he started to think. David has been through a lot and his is still young. He was feeling bad about the argument they had earlier today.
David was still young and all Herald wanted to do was to help him and he knew what he will be getting David into with the cartel but he could not just watch him waste his life.
"Everything is going to be alright." Herald said. Then he walked out of the room and closed the door slowly. Herald took a deep breath and went to his room.
The next morning Herald woke up, he was prepared and decided that he was not going to tell David anything, he was just going to take him to Leonard and when they are there, he will explain everything to him. He assured himself that everything would go to fine.
David was already awake, he just came out of the shower, and he cleaned himself up. When he finished, he wore his hoodie, jeans and shoes.
Everyday David woke up in the morning, he always stay positive that the day will go great but today he was not positive at all and it was because of the argument he had with his uncle.
He walked to his door but as he was about to open it, Herald opened it from the other side. David was surprised to see herald and he wondered what he wanted.
"Come with me we are going somewhere." Herald said hurriedly as he walked away but David was confused.
"Going where?" David asked.
Herald stopped and went back to David. "We don't have enough time, we need to go."
David was still confused with why Herald was in such a rush and where he wanted to go. "Where are we going to?"
Herald knew that David would keep on asking question so he came up with a reply. "I found a job for you." He said, "Now come on lets go."
David was surprised and at the same time confused. "What do you mean a job?"
"I found a great job and it is really good." Herald assured him.
"But…. But you know that I'm not good at anything, I am going to mess up." David said.
Herald came closer to him. "Look, this job is going to suit you and I assure you, you are not going to mess up." He reassured him. "Now come on we need to go, we are already late."
Herald walked away and left the house, while David locked his room and followed Herald out of the house.
"Where is the job and what is the job?" David asked.
"Just follow me and stop asking questions."
They walked for a while and then they finally they arrived. David was not sure what job Herald was talking about and looking at the building they stopped at made him more uncertain.
It was an old abandoned building but it looked strong, the walls were thick but you could see the cracks on them. Not enough windows for that kind of building and it was a bit far from the main city.
Herald stopped and David wondered why he did.
"Follow me." Herald said as he walked into the building.
Inside the building was dark but not too dark and it had a lot of space. David saw some men at a far end of the building but he could not see them well.
"Come." Herald said.
Herald walked to the men and David followed behind. As they got closer to the men, David could recognize one man there and it was the same man he saw Herald talking to yesterday.
David was not yet sure what the job was but he did not like seeing that man. He put his hands in the pocket of his hoodie and kept on walking.
They reach the men and Herald greeted him warmly.
"You are late." Leonard said to Herald and then turned to David "So this must be your nephew."
"Yes he is." Herald said.
"So kid, your uncle here told me about you and he must have told you why you are here." Leonard said to David.
David was still confused and he was sure his uncle did not tell him anything.
"I don't understand, my uncle hasn't told me anything."
Leonard understood what was going on and so he went on saying, "Oh, he hasn't told you what you are doing here, well let me brief you on that."
"No, don't do that, I can do it myself" Herald intruded.
"No No No, You couldn't do it when you had a chance so let me tell him."
They just kept David confused and wondering what they were talking about, he could not take it anymore.
"What are you two talking about? And what is this job about?" David asked with annoyance.
"Look kid, my name is Leonard and you see, I run a cartel in this city. I am the biggest dog around here and your uncle is my lieutenant. He saw that you are having a really hard time so he wants to bring you into the business." Leonard explained.
Suddenly everything started to add up for David, why his uncle isn't always at home and when he gets back it will be at midnight, why he saw the both of them together and also why the people at the store went away when he walked in.
"Wait wait, so you are telling me that my uncle Herald is a lieutenant of a cartel." David said.
"Exactly, and a pretty good one too." Leonard replied.
Herald did not know what to say so his kept silent.
"Ok, you know what, I'm out of here." David walked away from them.
Leonard gave a smile and Herald had no choice but to go after David and try to convince him.
