" Get your shit straight Martha, I am not barren!" Lucy whimpered. She wasn't barren, she was carrying Dennis' child in her womb for goodness sake.
" Really Lucy? be real for once in your life I beg you, five years, five damned years of fruitless marriage does not seem to agree with you on this matter" Martha chuckled. " Knowing you, you're definitely most probably going to lie about being pregnant. Seeing that you're desperate to escape."
" Why would I need to lie about that? Dennis is my husband!." Dennis laughed like Lucy just told a joke. " I'm not your husband, not for long anyways. The divorce papers would be served to you in prison, and when that time comes you better sign them. It'll save both of us the trouble. And it'll save me the embarrassment of being called your husband."
" Talking about prison, I can hear the police sirens closing in. Looks like your precious time is running out little miss Lucy." Martha mocked. Lucy still couldn't believe what was happening to her right now, it all had to be a sick joke they were playing on her. But the truth was that this wasn't a joke, and they weren't playing any form of prank on her. This was serious, she was minutes away from going to prison for something she knew nothing of.
For a crime of murder. She was damned, she was pregnant for goodness sake, for all things moral and right she couldn't let herself go to prison while a child was nesting in her womb. And to make things worse even if she told Dennis the truth, he wouldn't believe her. Martha, her supposed friend, already brainwashed him into thinking that she was barren. She was a liar in his eyes now.
Soon the police's car siren was heard clearly and the ambulance following behind them stopped in front of her home. " Tick tock.. your time is up!" Martha laughed, wrapping her arms around her husband again. Police men soon walked in with little to no expression on their faces. " Mrs Lucy Rodman?." One of them asked.
" She's the one right there, Officer." Martha pointed to Lucy who looked like she was staring at a ghost. Walking towards Lucy the police officer took out a piece of paper, it was a warrant for her arrest. " Mrs Lucy Rodman, you are under arrest for the murder of Louisa Rodman.. and for an act of harassment towards Miss Martha." The office said. " Cuff her up."
" I swear, I swear to God I didn't kill her, please believe me I don't even understand what's happening but I swear I didn't do anything to her!." Lucy began to yell as the other policemen went behind her to cuff her hands together. " I suggest you remain silent ma'am, cause anything you say or do would and will be used against you in the court of law." The police officer said as his men began to drag her out of the house.
" Dennis please you have to snap out of this, I didn't kill Louisa you know me, you know how I am, you have got to believe me!." Lucy cried as she was shoved into the police van having the door slam shut against her face.
The police officer sighed as he looked at the body laying on the floor. " My sincerest condolences Mr Rodman, I know it's a bit early for this but you would have to come to the police station later tonight to file a case against your wife." As if on defense Dennis held Martha in his arms like she was actually his wife. " Would tomorrow morning be alright? she needs her rest and we still need to recover from the shock of everything that has taken place today."
" Of course Mr Rodman, I understand."
" And thank you again officer, if you came any later than this I'm not sure what she might have actually done to us." Martha stuttered. " No problem ma'am that's what the police are here for. The ambulance is outside and will come in for the body soon, I'll be taking my leave now." The police officer said before leaving the house.
Turning to Dennis, Martha whimpered. " Oh Dennis I was so very scared I thought that she was going to hurt me and the baby, our baby Dennis, I was about to expect the worst from her." Dennis pulled her into a hug rubbing her shoulders. " Don't think about that woman right now, she's not here anymore she's going to do nothing of the sort to any of us again. I.. I just feel really really terrible that my mother had to be an example for me to realize that I've been keeping a murderer in my house. If only I've listened to you, none of this.. all of this could have been skillfully avoided."
" It's all right my sweet, they say that it's better late than never. Your mother might have taken the fall but our baby? It won't suffer from any mistakes that have been made today, it'll be kept safe far away from that witch.." Martha said softly rubbing her belly again. The ambulance soon walked in and began doing their work. They placed the body in a black body bag and took all the drugs and syringe needles on the ground, putting them in evidence seals.
" I don't want to offend you but you heard the police officer right? you and that friend of yours would have to follow me to the police station tomorrow. We'll all need to give our statements to the police." Dennis sighed softly, rubbing his forehead. He still couldn't believe the woman he married for five years just murdered his mother, he still felt that all this was a dream. " No worries my love, I'll let her know this evening, we'll be there. I will be with you every step of the way, Lucy will pay for what she has done. She won't be escaping justice."
" Of course she won't, I'll make sure of that. You should get going now, I don't want you walking around when it gets dark, dangerous people are out there. I'll watch over things here." Martha kissed his cheek before replying. " There's no need to worry about my sweet, I'll do things well. I owe it to Louisa. I should get going." She turned walking out of the house, but not without a sickening smirk on her face. The neighborhood was already noisy and loud as almost all the neighbors witnessed Lucy being taken away by the police. Once she believed she was far away from ear shots, Martha brought out her phone and dialed Roselyn's phone number.
" Hello Roselyn? Oh it was incredibly fantastic, every single thing went well, you should have seen her face she was as scared as she was confused. Lucy would have never suspected a thing." Martha laughed. " Don't worry about her pregnancy, finding a way around it is easy, besides my Dennis would never believe her, on the contrary I have him eating out of the palm of my hand like a dog."
" Where are you though, we need to talk, we need to visit the police station with Dennis tomorrow. So make sure you've rehearsed everything I've told you by then, because they'll be taking our statements about what happened and I don't want any mishaps to ruin my plan." Martha rolled her eyes. " I'll meet you at your place, just make sure to get your shitty act together. Dennis is all mine now and I absolutely have no plans on letting him slip
from my fingers."
