" Good afternoon Mrs Rodman!." The pharmacy owner greeted as Lucy walked into the store. With a little smile on her face Lucy answered. " Good afternoon to you too. I've told you countless times to stop calling me that, we're friends remember?. Anyways, how's the pharmacy holding up?." she asked. " Everything is going well, I just got some medications last night. I wanted to give you a call yesterday so you could come over and take the drugs you ordered, but I thought about it then I figured you were busy and I didn't want to be a bother." Lucy chuckled at the store owner's nervousness. " It wouldn't have mattered, thank you for considering though. I was indeed really really busy." Especially now that I've found out about my husband's infidelity and the slight chance that he might have gotten another woman pregnant. Lucy thought to herself.
" Well that's good to know, wait here I'll be right back. Let me get your orders from the back." The store owner hurriedly ran to the back of the store. Lucy sighed as she looked around the little pharmacy, it has much more medical equipment than the last time she came here, which was about a month ago.
The dizziness came back and Lucy's head felt like it was spinning, like a truck slipping on an icy road. Her eyes felt like it would pop out of her head, the pain only growing worse with each second that passed by. Luckily the pharmacist came just in time before Lucy could hit the ground. " Oh my goodness, are you alright?."
Holding her temple Lucy groaned in pain. " Yes, yes I'm fine. Just a little headache, I've been having this since earlier today." The pharmacist looked at her in confusion. " Dizziness and a migraine, since this morning?."
" Now that I think about it, I guess it's been happening for some time now. It got really worse today. I just can't bear it anymore." Lucy answered. " By any chance have you been vomiting?." The pharmacist asked softly. " Vomiting? thinking about it now I guess so, maybe once or twice if I remember correctly." Lucy mumbled. " Why'd you ask? Do you think there's something wrong with me?."
" Something is definitely wrong, vomiting, constant headaches, dizziness, the way I'm seeing things there's a slight chance that you might be, no, no, are you.. are you sure you're not pregnant?."
Pregnant?
" Oh come on Roselyn, don't talk about sensitive topics like that. I've been trying to get pregnant for five whole years now. And you are trying to tell me that a simple headache could mean that I'm having a baby?." Lucy scoffed. " You'll never know, these things come when no one expects them to. Here take these.." Roselyn muttered softly, taking two pregnancy test sticks she handed them over to Lucy.
" I'm giving you two so we can be absolutely, positively sure, there's a bathroom in the back, you can use it to check and see if you might actually be–..
Lucy hissed, cutting her off. " Oh come on you're better than this, don't use my problems to mock me Roselyn. It's really not funny, just because I consider you a friend doesn't mean you get to bully and try to play sick tricks on me." Shoving the test kits back in Roselyn's hands Lucy goes for her bag of medications Roselyn had dropped on the table.
Pregnant?.. that's not possible. I've been trying for five years. Lucy thought.
" Lucy, please try listening to me, I'm not trying to mock or insult you at all. I just want us to rule out this option, the herbs I have recommended might have actually worked this time." Roselyn said as she held Lucy's arm stopping her from picking the bag up.
Lucy was silent as she thought about it. It wouldn't hurt to at least check it out right?, she hadn't checked herself since the last time she came here and that was about a month ago. Maybe something might have changed?. " Are you really sure about this?."
Roselyn smiled. " Of course I'm sure. You should check if you really are pregnant and if you're not pregnant then at least you've gotten pregnant ruled out. It might actually be something serious, it's better to be safe than sorry right? things like this it's better to play things safe don't you think?"
She is right. Better get this over and done with. " Fine, you are right about this. I'll go check it just to make sure then." Lucy said, taking the kits from Roselyn she headed for the bathroom at the back.
Inside the bathroom Lucy peed in a small plastic cup, she used a syringe to put droplets on each of the kits. Lucy waited for a couple minutes with anxiety filling her entire being. She was anxious, there was no doubt, she really didn't know what to expect. What if she wasn't pregnant, her hopes would have gone up for nothing. Then again, what if she was pregnant?.
Finally checking the results of the two kits, Lucy was literally paralyzed from shock. Two bold pink lines were looking, no, they stared right back at her. She couldn't believe it. She was pregnant! She was actually carrying a baby.
Finding out her husband cheated on her completely left her mind. That actually became the least of her problems at this moment. Lucy was filled with excitement and joy. After five whole years, five damned torture bearing years. She could finally become a mother, she could finally be able to carry her own child in her womb.
Lucy's palm slowly went to her lower abdomen caressing it softly as happy tears ran down her cheeks. She wanted nothing more than to go home and inform Dennis about this news immediately. He'd be really happy.
Cleaning her tears, Lucy took one of the kits in her purse and put the rest in the trash can. Leaving the restroom, nothing but excitement and joy could be seen on her face. Roselyn even noticed. " So? tell me, what did the test kits say?." she asked.
Roselyn was soon pulled in a tight hug. " It was positive Roselyn, I'm finally pregnant, I'm having a baby" Lucy beamed. " Wait, what!.. I mean it's certainly great news. I'm really, really happy for you but, are you sure? these things are fifty percent wrong most of the time some brands can't even be trusted these days." Roselyn mumbled out, a small smile on her face trying to hide the anger brewing within her.
Lucy hardly paid attention to that. " Yes Roselyn, I'm sure, very sure actually, the two kits came out positive. I'm going to be a mom, Rose, I'm finally going to have a child."
" i.. I'm so very happy for you." Roselyn forced out, hugging Lucy she patted her back. " Your efforts have finally paid off." Lucy smiled. " Yes, my prayers have finally been answered. I can't wait to tell Dennis about this. He'll be so very happy!"
" You want to tell Dennis?.. don't you maybe want to wait first, for a while at least, maybe tell him after you might have gone to the hospital for a check up? just to be sure." Roselyn almost hissed. " What?, there's no way I'm going to be wasting another second. I'll be telling him about our baby once I get home." Lucy said, grabbing the bag on the counter.
" I'll be seeing you tomorrow. It's getting really late and I've got dinner to prepare." Lucy said as she turned leaving the pharmacy. " Of course, tomorrow." The smile on Roselyn's face dropped immediately when Lucy was out the door.
Picking up her phone, she dialed a number at the top of her list. Once the person on the other end answered she spoke hurriedly. " Martha! where the hell are you?, are you there yet?.. good, that's good because there might be a problem. A big one."
" I just found out something, there might be a chance that Lucy is pregnant, no Lucy is pregnant it's confirmed. Of course I'm sure of what I'm saying, I was with her when she took the fucked up pregnancy test." Roselyn sighed. " I don't know how it happened Martha, and I don't really care. Lucy is with child and Dennis can't, no he shouldn't find out about this, or else your plan no our plan would be ruined."
" Find a way out Martha, I've done my part. I held it up long enough. Make sure you do your part perfectly. Nothing should go wrong today, everything we've done has led up to this moment. It should happen effortlessly."
