Amusement soon follows after the ephemeral disbelief of Jake.
"This is your big speculation. I wonder what has gotten into you lately." Jake said mockingly as he rest his back against the armchair.
Quincy casually shrugs, "Do you believe in it or not? Besides, I remember telling you not to bother about what I know."
Jake furrows his brows, "This isn't a joke Quincy. Are you going to tell me or not?"
"I am. First answer the question and I would give you the answers to everything and anything you want to know. Then you can decide for yourself whether the info is worth it or not." Quincy stated indifferently.
Silence occupies the room for a while as Jake debated internally. Should he trust the words of his best friend, who he thinks has a screw loose in his head, or not? After several minutes of debate, he finally spoke up.
"Okay. I believe in the supernaturals. Now tell me about your wild hunch." He demanded with a twinge of impatience in his tone.
"Now that we have gotten past that phase, promise me that whatever I am about to tell you will stay between the both of us and only us." Quincy beseeches.
"I can't make a promise I won't be sure I can't uphold. Besides, I am yet to know about this secretive speculations of yours and the deal it has with the whole supernatural stuff. So why don't you start speaking and I decide later whether I am going to promise or not."
"Dude, would you asks questions later and promise first? If you know that you aren't ready to listen to me then we might as well call it a night." Quincy said while moving to lay on his bed.
Jake heave out a sigh. He couldn't believe that he is actually going to do this. Out of curiosity, he forced Quincy to spill the contents concealed in his mind but somehow, he is starting to feel that his decision is now coming back to bite him in the ass.
If not because of the need to satiate his curiousity, he would have walked out of Quincy's room with annoyance. He couldn't be bothered to make a stupid promise but then, a part of him is genuinely curious about whatever Quincy is about to say after all, his best friend isn't one to act without reason or talk without thinking.
"Okay Quincy, I promise. Now tell me about this wild hunch of yours." Jake demands as he resist the urge to pry Quincy's mouth open and get him to start speaking.
"Are you sure you promise? Like promise promise? Promise with certainty." Quincy asks ensuring that Jake wouldn't go back in his words.
Jake could feel his eyes twitch but nevertheless he replies, "Yeah, yeah. I promise. In fact, I, Jake Whittemore hereby swear to keep it a secret whatever supernatural stuff my best friend is about to share with me. So help me God, Amen." With feigned seriousness, Jake lifted his right hand while placing the left one on his chest as he took his oath.
Although, Quincy isn't falling for the fake oath his best friend just make, he is however willing to let himself be convinced by Jake's words. He only hopes that Jake would be true to his words.
"Can you remember when we where in the woods last night and I told you about those bissare creatures?" Quincy asks while whispering.
"Of course, I remember. And I can remember telling you that they aren't called bissare creatures but chimaeras. What do they have to do with the massacres and kidnappings in Celestial Falls?" Jake questions with a deep knot on his face.
Surely, he didn't just take a fake solemn oath to shut his mouth about creatures that never existed, did he? If so, then he wouldn't mind breaking his promise but not without breaking one of Quincy's arms first.
"Right, chimaeras. That was the word you used. Anyways, forget about their appearance rather you should beware that most of the massacres in Celestial Falls have something to do with them."
"And by them, you mean the non existent and probably imaginary creatures that seems to have sprung to reality from the depth of your rabid mind." Jake is visibly trembling out of anger as he stare daggers at Quincy.
All the curiousity he wanted to satisfy already flew out the window the moment Quincy finish speaking. Did he just recite a long oath to keep such nonsense a secret? How unbelievable of him.
"You haven't listen to the whole deal yet. Why are you so impatient? Remember, you asked me to tell you what I know and not the other way around." Quincy complains with displeasure.
"Oh, I remember alright. But what I remember is asking you to speak up about something that would be helpful to the situation on ground and ---"
"What makes you think that whatever I just said isn't helpful. I knew what I saw and trust me when I say there is a lot of help we could benefit from the information I am about to share." Quincy interjected.
"Trust you?!" Jake spat, "I did that and now I am stuck sitting with and listening to you babble about some creature that exists only in some folklore. You know what, just because I believe in mythology, that doesn't imply that I don't know when to cross the line between fact and fiction."
"Tell me something real Quincy. Something original than some fantastical and mythological beast." Jake ran his hand through his hair as he spoke. Slumping his back into the armchair, he closes his eyes while exhaling so hard to release all the pent up frustration in his mind.
"You want to listen to something real. How about I show instead?" Quincy said as he sat upright, "Look into my eyes Jake." He demanded.
Jake grunts as he flutters his eyes open. "And why would I want to look into your..... Holy shit! Did your eyes just glow?" Jake screams as he bolts out of the chair and is quick to put as much distance as he could between Quincy and him.
"Dude, you are making noise " Quincy cautions while resisting the urge to laugh at Jake. The expression on his best friend's face is so twisted that it made Jake appear so comical.
"Why won't I? You eyes suddenly glow out of nowhere and you expect me to stay calm. Oh God, I feel like I might be seeing things." Jake said as he rubs place his palms on his face. "How is that even possible?"
Quincy casually shrugs his shoulders while pursing his lips. There are some things that even he is yet to have answers to as he would have to figure them out when the time comes, a nymph had told him that. However, when he was back at the mansion, Celeste had thought him how to channel the potential within him to certain extent. Hence, his glowing eyes.
"The how doesn't matter, only the why does." Quincy mutters while secretly swearing in his mind that he is starting to sound like a Taoist. "Also, you do remember taking an oath that you won't say anything so I shall hold you true to your words."
"I shall never back down on my promise, that you can be rest assured of." Jake said reassuringly. "But, can you do me the courtesy of explaining all of this to me." The awe in his tone is evident as Jake spoke while gesturing to Quincy's face.
"Don't worry. When the time is right, you would know. For now, there is an unsolved case before us." Quincy said bringing Jake's attention back to the massacres.
Jake didn't persist this time even when his mind is flooding with a million questions. Since Quincy had told him that he shall know when the time is right, he reckons that he couldn't rush things as the amazing sight he just witness is not a phenomenon that he could assimilate within a day or two. Therefore, he would have to give it time.
"So back to the culprit..."
