Barbara stood with the marquis' family, watching the physician check on Kristie. The room swam in utter silence. After a while, the physician turned to the Marquis. "Everything seemed normal. The lady is in great health," he declared.
The marquis thanked the physician, who nodded and then gazed at her. "Lady Hughes, I had treated people for decades. Despite that, I still lacked a lot of knowledge. If possible, can I ask for the method you used to treat Lady Reylson? I would appreciate it if you agreed."
The physician's words took Barbara off guard. She gazed at Kristie, who sent her a quick smirk, feeling lip-tied. Noticing everyone's focus was aimed at her, she gulped. "I—cannot reveal the way. It is a family secret, and I have sworn not to let anyone know," she said, forcing a smile.
"If that is the reason, then I have no luck. Since I finished my job, I will take my leave," the physician said, taking his bag, and striding out.
