Chapter 10 - CH10: To become stronger

To become stronger…

Ken didn't know what to do to become stronger, and although he had a system, he was yet to fully explore its function or what his powers could do.

His vampiric skill and celestial skills are frequent displayed by the system but he was yet to check out ther functions. Maybe some time after today's lesson, he will delve into their capabilities.

"A Demigod Vampire, just what does it mean? It doesn't even feel like I changed from an ordinary human to anything else. In fact, I feel the same way I've been feeling since I was a kid. The only change was the headache that started yesterday."

"And vampires,… apart from drinking bloods, I think they possess some certain traits that make them different from human beings, like improved hearing, and great sense of smell."

He reflected, wondering if he possessed any of these vampiric traits.

In line with this, Ken had tried listening to his surroundings while also keeping his eyes shut. And then, he could hear it. The breathing sound of everyone around him, the soft inhalation and exhalations.

He could even hear as Angela moved from one spot to another. Yet, despite her silent movements, the subtle creak of her shoes hadn't gone unheard by him.

Whisperings and murmurings had reached his ears as he heard the giggling sound of boys who kept on peeping at Angela, and girls who couldn't help but groan with frustration at this.

He also heard some of the students complaining about the whole meditating stuff altogether. How irrelevant and unimportant it was to learn such a thing.

Notably, Ken discovered he could control his vampiric hearing, scaling it back to human levels or amplifying it to detect even the slightest sound. This voluntary control amazed him.

With his vampiric hearing he could even hear the heartbeats of those around him. But if he chooses his hearing to be normal like that of humans, his sense of hearing will be limited. This was something he could willingly by just thinking of it.

Next, he tested his sense of smell. While sniffing the air around him, a peculiar scent had wafted his nose, and it was one he recognised so well to be that of humans.

But unlike how he would normally smell the odour of a person, this time, the smell had gotten different. When he smell a human, the general odour of all humans would waft his nose, but this smell seems to have a scent of iron added to it.

This metallic hint stirred a primal recognition to every vampire, signaling the presence of blood. This was why anytime a vampire crosses a human's path, they seem to not be able to control their urge of biting into their necks and suck their blood.

Upon satisfying their cravings, the end result leads to them turning the person into a vampire, or unfortunately, leading to the person's death.

Only those who managed to control themselves so well could resist the urge to do so. But to Ken, right now, he felt no overwhelming desire to bite or feed. The scent, though enticing, didn't trigger an uncontrollable response in him.

The only time it did was when he was hungry and he had received a quest from the system to drink the blood of his first human. But that didn't later happened, as the quest had disappeared the next morning he woke up.

Ken realized he might be different, possibly due to his celestial heritage or perhaps because he had just turned into a vampire.

"This may be a blessing…" Ken thought, "Or it could cause a problem. Only time will tell."

As he continued exploring his senses, Ken became aware of his own heartbeat, steady and calm. His mind cleared, and his focus sharpened.

No matter what may arise, greatness or problem, Ken had one goal in mind, and that was to get stronger. So if any situation arise, he would be able to deal with it all on his own, without depending on anyone.

Fluttering his eyes open, Ken felt invigorated, refreshed from his meditation. However, sitting in the same position for an extended period had caused his legs to develop a cramp. He shifted slightly, easing the discomfort.

As he looked around, his gaze fell upon Angela, who stood at the front, touching some students on their backs. Her eyes met Ken's, and for a brief moment, they locked in a piercing stare, until she eventually looked away.

"Why was she looking at me that way." Ken wondered, his eyes lingering at her back.

Just then, Scott's whisper broke the silence. "Hey dude, what's wrong with you? Did you sleep off again or what?" He asked.

Ken turned to Scott, confusion etched on his face. "What happened?"

"I've been calling you for the past few minutes, but you weren't responding," Scott explained, his voice low. "You looked like you went AWOL or something. But guess what? Something did happen."

Scott smiled, his usual tale-telling self manifesting and prevailing as he went on to explain how Angela had tried touching him but wasn't able to do so.

"Then, she attempted to infuse her energy into you, but the hairs on her body stood up. It was like something weird occurred within her, but I couldn't quite explain what."

Ken listened intently, his mind racing. He trusted Scott's words, knowing his friend wouldn't fabricate such a story. And with the way Angela's gaze lingered on him so much, Ken sensed she had discovered something. Just that, he didn't know what it is.

"She didn't found out about me, right? Or the fact that I'm a demigod vampire?" He pondered.

Seeing that Ken was now back, Angela had decided to round up the class for the day. Luckily, she was done channelling her energy into each and everyone of the students. So she would start a new lesson tomorrow.

As the class concluded, Angela instructed everyone to open their eyes. She provided additional insights on meditation, pointing out common mistakes. Finally, she announced the end of the lesson.

"Remember, same time tomorrow for the continuation of our lessons." Angela said.

But before dismissing the class, she added, "Will the student Ken Layden, please see me after class? We have some discussions to attend to."

The room fell silent, with all eyes darting around, as they wondered who the person was. Yet, Ken stood in the same position, feeling a mix of curiosity and apprehension wash over him.

As the students began to file out, Ken walked to the front, his eyes fixed on Angela. Scott nudged him, whispering, "Dude, you're in trouble."

Ken smiled wryly. "Let's see what she wants."
