Chapter 27 - Dining with the executives

A few days later, Moore was sitting in his office going through some documents when he heard a knock on the door. He spoke with a calm demeanor, "Come in." In came a man with a graceful figure. "Hello Moore Alexander, I am Brad Phillips," the man introduced himself. Moore seemed not to know who Brad Phillips was, so he raised an eyebrow, looking confused. Brad sensed Moore's hesitation and smiled before saying, "I am the regional head of logistics here at the Heart group." Moore smiled back before saying, "Forgive my lack of decorum," as he stretched out his hand to shake Brad's. After a few minutes of exchanging pleasantries, Brad spoke again, "Since you are the new guy in this organization, it is customary for you to take all the executives out for a day of acquaintance, just to get to know everyone." He added, "There are about seven of us in total. You have until the end of today to do that. When you're finished, text us the location." He smiled as he exited Moore's office. Moore thought for a moment before placing a call to Marcy. Not long after, she was in his office. After listening to his explanation, Marcy smiled before answering, "Don't worry, I will handle all the necessary arrangements. I will also text you and the other executives the location."

Later that evening, Moore arrived at a luxurious club called Consolidated Assurance, which catered to the highest earners of society. Only the privileged could book a private room. But Marcy had done this in the blink of an eye. When Moore arrived, he was escorted to the private room that Marcy had booked for them. He was greeted warmly and treated as a VIP. Shortly after, some of the executives at Heart Group started to arrive. First, it was Brad Phillips from logistics, followed by an elegantly dressed woman in her early to late thirties, Rebecca Jones from marketing and sales, and then Hugo Elliot from legal and Freddie Charles from human resources. One by one, they strolled in, all elegantly dressed for the occasion. From the moment Moore saw Rebecca, his heart skipped a beat; he thought to himself that she was very beautiful. As the host for the evening, Moore ushered everyone to their designated seats, while Rebecca sat at the opposite end of the round table. Soon after, the waitresses and waiters came in with various expensive wines and drinks to choose from, and the club presented three complimentary bottles of champagne for their VIP guests.

Soon, the group started chatting and drinking while getting to know each other in detail, before Freddie from Human Resources finally asked the obvious: "How do you know Katerina?" He seemed puzzled by the way the boss had taken a liking to Moore. "Are you related or is there something else?" Moore appeared confused and his face became perplexed by the sudden turn of events. He thought to himself, "Why all these well-reserved questions?" He considered every possible idea before replying: "I don't know Katerina personally. Maybe I was just lucky to obtain a favor from her." Brad chimed in, "I see you're a man with some secrets. If you don't want to share, we won't probe any further, but don't give us this lame excuse." Laughter filled the room. On a few occasions, Rebecca and Moore's eyes met, she would smile and then look away. Hugo spoke with a stern expression: "What I don't understand is why the boss lent Marcy to you. I have been here the longest and I have never seen her do such a thing before. Would you care to explain this to us? Please don't say it was a favor." Moore chuckled before replying, "I don't know about that. You'll have to take it up with her." Rebecca chimed in with a smile, "Maybe Moore is here to spy on us?" The room fell silent as they considered her words. If that was true, then Moore was a spy. Brad broke the silence by saying, "I don't think Moore is a spy, but I know there is more to him than he is letting on."The room fell silent again as everyone considered Moore's elevation. Hugo spoke to Moore, "Please forgive us, this is not an interrogation, we are just curious about you and your relationship with Katerina." Moore took a deep breath before replying, "I know I am the new guy and I have not yet earned your trust, but I will do my best to change that and earn your trust. While saying that, he stole a glance at Rebecca to gauge her reaction, but instead, he was met with a beautiful smile. Moore's heart almost melted at her reaction. Hugo, being an intuitive person, jokingly said, "Now that we are done with the formalities, it's time to relax and have a drink." But before anything else, we have to raise a toast to Moore and formally welcome him to the company." The others raised their wine glasses and, in sync, cheered on Moore. Moore could feel the excitement in the air as he raised his glass in acknowledgement. The room became lively again, with the sound of drinking and chatting coming from all corners.

As the evening went on, it was time for everyone to leave. They all exited the room together and waited for the parking attendant to bring their cars. Moore noticed that Rebecca seemed hesitant, so he walked up to her and asked, "Didn't you come with your car?" Her reply was instant, "Yes, I did, but I don't think I will be driving." Moore replied immediately, "I see, you're a little bit drunk and you're choosing not to drive. Smart move." Rebecca smiled and responded, "If you don't mind, I can drive you home." Moore injected, "Rebecca hesitated for a while, but since no one else was offering, she accepted Moore's offer and gave him the keys to her car.Moore took the keys from Rebecca and got into the beautiful, luxurious Mercedes-Benz Super X car.
