Chapter 16. You're my best friend

"Stupid girl! How dare you?! You also want to ruin my name as well?!", Mr Hart yelled. His veins were almost popping out of his head.

"Dad, it was a mistake".

"What sort of dirty mistake is this? I can't take this".

"Dad please, don't be angry. I didn't mean for it to happen ".

"Slut! You're just like your mother! Untrained animals!".

"Dad!"

"Shut it! Shut it you dirty girl!"

Kaitlyn bowed down not daring to look at him again.

"You should give them something else to talk about. This is too bad".

"Dad I'm sorry".

"Get out of my sight!"

Kaitlyn got up and left.

It was all thanks to Ava Bateman. Just then, there was an announcement on the news about an interschool Lawn Tennis competition. A smile peculiar to Kaitlyn Hart marred her face as she clasped her cellphone tightly.

This time she had to do it right.

The evening of that same day, Kyle sought Ava for games at the arcade. While she dressed, he stayed at the living room with her mom.

"You good Kyle?", she asked putting a slice of cucumber into her mouth as she watched the telly. She was trying her best to look like a serious mother.

Kyle bit down on his kissable lips, trying his best to suppress the peal of laughter that was threatening to burst out.

"Yes aunt Clara", he said his tone quivering.

"I need you to talk to Ava about her lifestyle", she said looking at him through her imaginary glasses. Kyle was already turning red from suppressed laughter.

"What's wrong with her lifestyle aunt?"

"No man has ever asked her out all because she dresses like a dude. No guy likes a dude ".

"She's cool that way aunt".

Mrs Bateman clicked her tongue in disappointment. "You don't help matters at all Kyle ".

Kyle was still trying not to laugh.

This was the scene that greeted Ava on her way downstairs.

"What's going on mom?", she asked, her brows arched.

"No... nothing. Kyle and I were just talking", she said without looking at Ava. She needed to look a little motherly.

Ava sighed at her mom's persistence.

"You don't understand, or do you mom?"

"Baby...", she said finally looking at Ava. Kyle stood from his seat.

"We gotta go aunt Clara".

"Yeah. You two, better watch out for those heartless drivers and enjoy yourself", she shouted after the two that had already left.

"Those cute things", she mouthed with a soft chuckle.

Kyle came with his motorbike, so they rode on it. They arrived at Newtown arcade which was already filled with people. They chose a game after much comparisons. They were regulars here but they wanted to try out something new. It was fun. While they played, Kyle took glances at Ava, trying to find the right words. Ava was quick to catch the suspicious glance.

"What's up best?", she asked her mind still on the game.

"The video of Kaitlyn".

She arched a brow. "What's up with it? You like the moans?"

Kyle chuckled. He looked at her as he chuckled again. "You did it, didn't you?"

"What does it matter if I'm the one behind it?"

He shrugged, and continued the game. "I thought you'd never do something like that".

This statement got to Ava making her lose a point. Her heart sank. She didn't want Kyle thinking the she was a bad person. She wasn't one. She had to be one...for him.

"You think it's wrong yeah?"

"Not if she deserves it. I don't like her anyways".

"What if you did?", she asked.

Kyle paused the game and turned to her.

"You're my best friend and the best one I've had all these years. No one matters more than you Ava. You're the best person that I've ever met. Even if I like her, as long as she deserves it, I don't care".

Ava finally smiled at his statement. Excitedly, she threw herself towards him giving him a big hug. She didn't realize what she was doing yet.

"Thanks Kyle for thinking that way", she said unware of the rosy blush that crept to her cheeks.

"Ava?"

"Yes?"

"Are you drunk?"

"No. Why?"

"Isn't it yucky to hug me like this?"

"Oh shit!", she cussed realizing how much she had slipped.

Kyle chuckled at his clumsy friend. Just then, he noticed the redness of her face.

"Ava, you good?"

"Why? Do I look sick?"

"Yeah. I think. Your face is all red".

She sighed. "I think it's because I just lost a point", she lied through her teeth while looking him straight in the eye. She grabbed her game gun and began playing.

"Kaitlyn is a bitch. I'm so sorry that I didn't notice before".

"I knew she must have done something".

"What did she do?"

Ava bit her lips in contemplation. "I don't think you wanna hear it".

"Nothing I haven't heard".

"Don't be shocked". She of all people wanted to let him know. To know how vile the Kaitlyn was. Goosebumps crept onto her skin as she thought of what Kaitlyn had told her to do.

"She asked me to drug you".

Kyle arched a brow.

"And lay you with her. So that it'd spread around and then you'd take responsibility".

"Wow", Kyle mouthed after a while. He chuckled at what Ava had just said.

"It's funny?"

"No. Not a little funny. It's just...I never thought you a smart one Ava".

She giggled. "You're so slow then".

"Tell me, how did you find out?"

Ava nearly choked on her saliva. Was he really asking that? She looked at him her brain wheels turning. She couldn't tell him that she was threatened. Kyle was a smart one. He'd catch on quickly.

"I overheard her talking with someone".

Kyle nodded. His eyes turned to slits as he thought of Kaitlyn's plan. "Don't ever do things this dangerous next time Ava"

Ava furrowed her brows. "I thought you said you liked it?"

"That's if I'm doing it with you".
