I used energy gathering and stabilizing my energy flow, but my crying made it harder to continue, and so, my body's weakness caused me to fall into a deep sleep without even realizing it.
And a whole day has passed by without me realizing it.
When I opened my eyes, I was not gathering any more energy. And when I noticed my mother, she was holding me tightly but I wasn't able to feel her breath.
Dammit. If only I was able to walk...
After a long time of waiting, a middle-aged man with a strong build and a concerned expression approach us.
I suppose I should be scared because I'm a baby, but I didn't, and I certainly didn't hear anything from my mother.
Looking up at her, she was in a deep unconscious state.
As the man approached us, he crouched and looked at me with a caring expression. When he looked at my mother, his expression immediately changed.
"Is she... dead?" was the first thought that came to mind. She survived by not eating or drinking anything and only giving me a small amount of milk.
Why do the gods have to be so ungrateful to me? Who asked for my reincarnation? And now, why is my mother here dead because of me?
"Waaah, uwaaah."
"Waaah, uwaaah."
"This baby is still alive?" was the next sentence that came out of his mouth, and his face was filled with concern and sadness.
The man checked her breathing and with a sad expression, "I'm sorry, lil guy! Your mother has passed away!" he said as he took a look at me.
The state I was in, in my mother's tight cradle, signifying the view of protecting me with her fragile body, made my heart delve into darkness.
At least this time, I thought I would save people close to me, and this feeling of losing someone close to me is something I never wanted to feel again.
But it's not the time to feel emotional.
I said to myself, and I looked at the man who was staring at me.
I slowly lifted my hands from my mother's embrace and touched his cheek.
"It's a pity, lil guy! Would you like to come with me?" He asked.
"Waaah?"
I don't have a choice anymore, and I need to grow in some way. I can't afford to grow up as an orphan in a place I'm unfamiliar with. At least for my mother who saved me until her last breath, it's better to go with the man.
"I'm sorry, mother. I'm eternally grateful to you for giving birth to me. I will live because of you, and I wish you watch over me always. Thank you very much. Mother."
In the state I was in, I couldn't nod my head, so I just tried hard and blinked twice.
After frowning in response to my signal, the man smiled.
"Hmmm." The man began to laugh and said, "Right! My name is Samuel Dainsleif, and I'll be your father from now on. Okay?" he said, as he gradually drew my baby body from my mother's cradle and patted my head.
Taking a last look at my mother, "I will be back, miss. I'll give you a proper send-off, and don't worry, your son is now in safe hands!" he said and walked out of the place with me.
