A little girl not less than eight crawled into the dark room and came to lie next to her mother who was fast asleep.
Upon noticing her daughter's presence, Patricia sat down straight. Tugging her closer, she patted the little girl's head.
"What is it again?" Patricia asked.
"Mama I saw him again," Anna eplied with a saddened expression.
It was a tradition in the Raven village that when a person is born, an Angel will be assigned to you, to protect you from evil.
Patricia who was a Nun in the church already found hers at the early age of fifteen. But in Anna's case, her guardian Angel screams danger. There was nothing about him that feels right. The first time she met him at the mirror, she screamed in fear and ran out of her room.
"Did he say anything to you?" Patricia looked down at her scared daughter.
"No." She shook her head. "When I looked into the mirror today, I saw him behind me. He was wearing a black cloak to hide his appearance."
Anna raised her head to look at her mother. "Mama I'm scared."
Patricia continued to pat her head. "You don't have to be scared, Anna. He won't harm you."
Pulling away from little Anna, she looked at her face and saw that she was already fast asleep. Patricia laid her daughter on the bed and then tucked the blankets to cover her body.
She stood up and walked to the wardrobe. Opening the double doors, Patricia picked up the two wings that was losing it's colour from blue. She had cut off Anna's wings and pulled off her seal skin when she was a baby to avoid suspicious from the people. Anna's wings was growing so fast that she had to cut them off every week without Anna knowing about it. The wings which Patricia was cutting off every week was making Anna's powers become weak. Patricia was a fairy who was banned from the fairies Kingdom when she committed an unforgivable crime.
Her daughter had come to the wardrobe yesterday even after warnings not to go near the wardrobe and she found the wings. Patricia had no other choice than to compel the girl from knowing what she saw.
She knew that if Anna's powers resurfaced, it would cause harm not only to her but the church. To avoid Anna from getting exposed, she usually hide her eye colour with her powers. All fairies iris were supposed to appear pure white but to avoid suspicious from the church, she had used her powers to replace the colours to be brown. Patricia uses a rare soap to wash Anna's body to peel off the blue skins from her body every week.
Although, Patricia knew she was playing on fire and ice. Anna was an evil fairy from the unseelie court. When Patricia was still in the fairy kingdom, she had seen how dangerous the members of unseelie court was. They are organizations of evil fairies who hunt for humans to breed and sometimes feed on them.
This was the reason Patricia became a Nun, so her daughter would have same fate like her. If Anna becomes a Nun like her, the chances of her turning into a destructive fairy would be slim. She had lied to the church when she came here that Anna was only a sister to her and they believed her.
Patricia had lost her husband when she was pregnant with Anna. She had married a human and when she became pregnant, she could not control her powers as she started misusing them without she knowing.
She mistakenly killed her husband with her powers one night and up till now she regret what she did and blamed herself.
Closing the door of the wardrobe, Patricia sighed before going to bed.
The next day, Anna was bathed and dressed in a white long gown.
"Now Anna you should go join the other children to take your vows." Patricia told the little girl.
Anna smiled at her mother's words. "Okay."
"Now you must put in your prayers today for you not to be scared in the presence of your guardian Angel." Patricia said.
Anna nodded her head before dashing out of the room to join other children.
But as she took several steps from the room, she caught glance of a man dressed in a black cloak. He was standing in a dark room and Anna couldn't see his face clearly. This was her guardian Angel who had appeared to her last night.
With a little bit of curiosity, she walked towards the room. Standing at the door entrance, she saw the man stretch his hand out for her. Anna was about to place her palm on his hand when someone grabbed her.
"What are you doing here alone?" Rose, one of the Nuns in the church asked.
Anna turned to look at the man again but he was gone. "Where did he go?"
"Who?" Rose frowned, looking at the direction Anna was pointing.
"He was standing right there." She pointed.
"I don't have time for your chit chat today. Go take your vows with the rest children." Rose said before leaving there.
Anna wasted no time and she ran towards the stairs. As she entered the church, she caught a lot of attention as all the children looked at her with arrogant expression. They despise Anna a lot and even though she was sad about it, she didn't show it.
While she was heading towards the altar of the church to take her vows, one of the children pushed her causing Anna to stumble on her steps.
The young girl who had pushed Anna didn't stop there. She looked at Anna with stern eyes.
"The next time you get on my way, I will make sure to break your legs." The girl threatened.
Little Anna paused her lips. "You should apologize for pushing me."
The girl's brow furrowed as she took a step forward, sizing Anna up. "And what will you little rat do if I don't?"
Anna surprised the girl by smacking her across her face. She hadn't meant to slap the girl and only did it out of anger. Her mother had trained her to be an obedient child and not to cause havoc but she could not stop herself from teaching the girl a small lesson for not apologizing after pushing her.
"What!" The young girl held her burning cheek with anger. Anna's rudeness made the girl furious with hot rage.
The girl used her whole strength to shook her hand into one of Anna's eyes causing the brownish colour to fade out.
