Silence. Absolute silence reigned in the void. His hair fluttered as his consciousness traveled through time and space. Thoughts ran through his mind.
'Why would Jackson do that to me?'
'What was that emotion in Lucifer's eyes as he held me?'
'What kind of parent names their child Lucifer?'
'Why is my heart pounding crazily?'
'Why do I feel so light-headed?'
'What is going on?'
After what he thought were hours, he regained himself. His eyelashes fluttered in the wind.
The breeze blew carrying dry leaves and the smell of earth after rain was in his nostrils. He felt himself floating on something very wet.
'Water? Why am I on water? I should be dead, or is death filled with water?'
He opened his eyes slowly and caught the light that seeped in. He clenched his eyes in pain.
Then he tried again.
Clear light washed over his face as his eyes opened to see where he was. The sky was bright blue and birds were flying in it. Their chirps could be heard unceasingly. The palms were dancing in the wind and the water swayed along.
'Wait! Water?' Miles opened his eyes completely to absorb the whole new world and he just realized he was on water.
He splashed and slowly got to his feet. 'Thank God I wasn't far from the bank.' His clothes quickly became wet as he stood in the water.
Miles assumed a calm disposition as he stared all around him. Then he couldn't keep it in any longer.
"What the f**k!!" his voice echoed scaring birds hanging in the palm trees.
...
Days passed as he slowly got used to this small body he woke up in. One night, in a dream, he saw Lucifer. He was standing at a distance smiling at him.
Miles ran towards him with great fervor and joy and hugged him.
"Lucifer? Really, is it you?" Lucifer nodded, his eyes sad but holding a tinge of excitement.
"How, how?" Miles was clearly confused.
"You see, I have some strange abilities. Entering dreams is one of the numerous." he answered as he twirled his fingers round Miles' hair. But he did not say that he manipulated his soul too. He wasn't sure of how Miles was going to react.
Miles looked at himself. He had the appearance of his former self, not the one of a little boy. He was happy. For some reason, he didn't want to meet Lucifer like that.
"I want to tell you something." Miles began as Lucifer held him in his hands. He was so excited to say all that had happened to him. Lucifer nodded showing he was listening. Then, Miles began to blabber on and on.
Lucifer smiled inwardly. 'They had plenty of time and he would love to listen all day.'
...
"Jackson was not the only person who caused your death. There were a lot of them manipulating the strings behind the scenes." Lucifer said to Miles once he was done talking.
Miles was a bit shocked but he somewhat expected it. Why else would his close friend kill him? Or was he just to dense? He appreciated what Lucifer was doing for him, anyways.
He looked up at him with burning eyes. "I want revenge. I don't want them living happily after why they had done."
Lucifer smiled as he held Miles' chin. "Then revenge you shall get." he gazed into his deep brown eyes. 'My beauty.' he thought.
Miles felt giddy under his gaze and wanted to lower his head but Lucifer's fingers kept his face in place. He looked up at him staring intently into Lucifer's dark eyes.
Suddenly, Lucifer seemed to twitch then he sighed.
"I have to go, Miles. I'll see you tommorow." He said and disappeared. Instantly, Miles eyes shot open.
He was on his bed and an oil lantern flickered giving the room a mellow eerie feeling.
"Lucifer. Revenge." Miles whispered softly to himself. He remembered the gaze Lucifer gave him and his hand swept to his heart. He remembered the way his heart thumped and jumped in his chest meeting that gaze.
He suddenly shook his head. His cheeks were burning. He sighed as he remembered Lucifer's words.
"...there were a lot of them manipulating the strings behind the scenes."
'Not one person, not two, not three even, but plenty of them.'
...
The day passed rather slowly as Miles was looking forward to seeing Lucifer again that night.
Night reached and he laid on his bed to sleep. He turned and twisted waiting for his spirit to be transported but nothing happened. Soon, he became tired and slept off.
Lucifer giggled watching the boy turn on the bed in dissatisfaction. 'Eager, eh? I like that. But I need you to rest first because if I take you now, I won't want to let you go.'
He sat on the edge of the bed and caressed Miles'soft hair.
Immediately it struck 3:00 AM, Lucifer immediately disappeared.
Miles eyes opened in a dream. He looked around and saw Lucifer standing in his former spot.
"Good morning."
Miles smiled in response. Then he scratched his neck as he was a bit shy.
"You were saying something about revenge yesterday. What is it that I must do?"
Lucifer immediately whipped out a thin book. Their eyes shifted to it. On it was written, 'Ritual of the past.'
Lucifer conjured chairs and a table and began to explain to Miles.
"The ritual of the past is one of the trilogies. The ritual of the past, The ritual of the present and the ritual of the future. This is an ancestral ritual of the Donovan family. Don't worry about that for now."
He gave Miles the book and explained how to do the ritual.
"Three bowls of pig blood are needed along with a bowl of your blood. Incense sticks bathed in flower aroma." He explained to him how to arrange the ritual, pointing at the illustrations.
"Furthermore, Miles," he said looking into his eyes with worry. "You must do this everyday. Never stop for one day. The consequences of deterrence, I shall not mention."
Miles nodded, his heart, mind and spirit resonated with determination.
"This ritual will enable you move to the past with a semiconscious spirit to do whatever you want to. A thought can send you to any destination."
Miles was awed by the ritual. It was so awesome.
"Miles, do not go beyond your boundaries. You can only inflict injuries that will not affect the course of this present. If you don't do so, you might instantly disappear to the Secret Mercenary Training Ground. I will guide you."
Lucifer gave him a wooden stick. "Make sure you are holding it whenever you need or want me. I will appear no matter what."
Miles nodded.
"Go on, today's not school, do the ritual early. I will be with you, now and in the past." Lucifer said and slowly faded into oblivion.
Once again, Miles' eyes shot open.
He immediately began to prepare.
