Synopsis
It’s a novel about four friends and their obscure life. *** The clinking of the five-inch stiletto echoed in the now-silent room. Every gaze was trained on the lady brandished in a fiery red evening gown. The aura surrounding the young woman was cold and dominating. Her sleek bun added another grace to her charismatic personality. Every woman’s presents there turned green in envy and men took a gulp feeling her oppressing aura. This woman was too much to handle. Heck, they can’t even afford to cross paths with her. She was a cruel bitch of the business world. Nobody dares to offend her. Greeting the host of the party, she stood in the corner grabbing a glass of cocktail. Scanning the surrounding her eyes suddenly found someone familiar. Her eyes dimmed a little and her lips turned into a thin line. In the next few seconds, her eyes darkened with rage. She sauntered to the person who was apologizing to the CEO of some small end company. “Do you even know how much this suit cost? Who permitted this low life to enter such prestige party?” The old man shouted loudly. The young man turned red in embarrassment founding all the eyes on him. It was true the party was only once held in three years and all the businessmen whether new or old eagerly wait for this chance to curry favors from big business conglomerates. “I am sorry sir. It was purely unintentional.” The young man tried to persuade him however it was all a futile attempt. “Shut up your dirty life. Look at your clothes. You sure have the guts to wear such poor clothes at this party.” Feeling someone present beside him the young man thought it might be the security called to throw him out. But the next second his eyes stilled at the figure. “And you Mr. Smith sure have the guts to ruin my party.” The old man almost fainted founding her there. Hela has always ignored these business meetings; even if she attended any, she liked to choose a corner and spent the entire time there not liking to be bothered by anyone. The crowd hushed in silence probably a good shown will soon be cast upon. “Oh No! Miss Wilson. It’s just this poor guy snubbed the whole thing. I was just trying to shoo him away and save the party” The old man cleanly shifted all the blame on the young man, buttering her up a little in the process. “Oh, I see Mr. Smith. But don’t you know what I despise the most?” Again a prickling silence surrounded the ballroom. “LIARS.” A cold and intimidating voice boomed in the room. Her dominating aura surpassed all the people. Sending a text on her cellphone. She glared at the old man and clutched the hand of the young man pulling him out of the ballroom. A couple of seconds later, the old man’s man phone rang and an earth-shattering voice resounded in the party. “How can this be? The sudden downfall in the stocks.” The silent and gobsmacked audience again started whispering.

Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

Life has always been a source of unpredictability and exasperation. There was not a single moment of calm. It was like a butterfly evolving. Although each process is substantial and considerable, the final phase, when the caterpillar magically turns into a butterfly, is the most cherished; however, each stage is meaningful.

We have the vision and perspectives, too. We are so focused on discovering happy and successful moments that we forget to appreciate the challenging and painful life stages of life that we have to endure with courage and fortitude.

Nevertheless, not every person is the same. Some of them had preserved those bittersweet memories somewhere in their tiny brains. So let's dive and try to spot it.

***

Inside a large meeting room.

There was a deathly silence.

Everyone in the meeting room gulped the constrained ball of saliva and stared at the one being who was to blame for the current situation.

A boy who just completed his internship and whose probation work period had just ended two months gave him a golden opportunity to work in the Wilson Co. To top it all off, he received two minor promotions in a row.

The lad might be young but his intellect and brain process in an eccentric way pushing a tag of genius on his head.

However, this asset had always cast its negative effect turning into a liability.

Hence, isolating him from other employees and colleagues. Because nobody wants others to take their limelight and this young boy constantly has the limelight due to his intelligence turning everyone green in envy.

Sitting in the corner he shrank back in his seat founding all the glare in his direction.

Except for the boss who was coolly sitting on the head chair examining all the sheets and newfound information required for the new project.

After finishing the reports, Hela shifted her office chair to the left and rested her right elbow on the dark brown mahogany table.

Hearing the sound of a chair shuffling, everyone sat up straight and wiped the sweat from their brow bone.

The painful silence was almost strangling their life out of their body.

This meeting was specially organized to discuss the new project and the research team was tasked with gathering all relevant information from large to small.

"There is an error in the report. Who had made this?"

Hela inquired, scanning all of the faces. Everyone else's faces were tinged with relief except for the young boy. All the fingers were attempting to point at him, and an old man leaned on his right, straightening his back after a horrifying silence, and said.

"This young man is to blame for this madam. He didn't even think it was necessary to double-check or seek advice from his superiors. Nowadays, young people always fly high."

Others audibly tsked in support of the elderly man.

"What is your name?" Hela solicited the young boy who shrank more in fear.

All the people in the research department sneered and hide their malicious smiles behind their fake smiles. Finally, this boy was going to be fired.

Everyone didn't seem to like him. Alas!

Nobody desired a genius to outshine them, but rather an opportunity to outperform others, and it appeared that they would do so today.

The young man stood up nervously and bowed slightly toward her.

"My name is L…Lucas Stone, Boss."

When he noticed Hela's hot gaze on him, he cowered even more in terror. He had heard a lot about the lady boss being obnoxious and haughty. She is egotistical and does whatever she desires, but nobody can assert her. Her glare was enough to put them off.

Lucas was never a confident child, and others who desired his demise used his low self-assurance and feeling of insecurity against him. Look like it was going to happen one more time.

"How did you get the information? Because some statistics are similar to the one I got earlier. Right, Mr. Peter."

Hela asked forming the bridge with her fingers and resting her pointed chin on it looking carefully at the boy.

"Boss, it was actually he was new to the field so he asked for some guidance from me and I helped him but I didn't realize he would be so unruly to copy the exact information," said Peter.

Lucas hurriedly looked up, a look of betrayal in his eyes before saying, "No, Boss Mr. Peter, he...he is l...lying."

His tone was low, but the hope in his voice was palpable.

"Stop lying Lucas. If you have copied just accept it. Madam won't say anything."

Peter interjected with a haughty look placing some files on the table. Lucas paled in comparison to earlier. All his hard work and time he had invested in this project will soon be taken by someone else.

"But these are my-"

Again he was ruthlessly interjected by Peter.

"Madam these are the pieces of evidence of my research on the project."

Lucas wanted to prove Peter's words wrong but the gazes of his superiors filled with malicious intent scared him and he couldn't utter a word.

Hela looked at the boy, who had shrunk to the size of a lamb and was being bullied by these wild dogs.

"Oh! I see. So this is the reality."

Mr. Peter nodded, and Lucas shuffled back into his chair, knowing the outcome. His eyes were welling up with unshed tears. He, like others, was poised to be deserted.

"You must leave the research department, Mr. Stone." Others' faces beamed with happiness especially Peter because he had deep down grudges against Lucas. "You have been fired."

Hela stood up after closing the file. All of the members stood up, some in fear, some in respect. "And Mr. Peter, please accompany Mr. Stone to the HR department," she said, squinting her eyes.

Mr. Peter snickered at Lucas and passed a groveling smile to Hela, "Sure Boss. I will assist Mr. Stone in packing his stuff."

Hela ignored him and exited the meeting room, leaving the audience behind.
