Chapter 5 - Chapter 5

"Boss. How can you fire me? Isn't it supposed to be him?"

Peter busted out in animosity.

He worked incredibly hard and joyously throughout the afternoon in the hopes of securing a promotion from his boss, the head of the research department, but when he accompanied Lucas to the HR Department in the evening only to receive a rude awakening.

Clamping her finger together Hela catechize.

"What makes you believe it should be him?" She paused and lazily looked at him. "And what gives you the authority to question me? Remember your position."

In the end, Hela sneered and spat. Casting a melancholy glare on her. His face twisted with contempt. Peter smacked his hand against the table's glass. His eyes couldn't hide its scheming intent anymore.

"Mister no-...that would be too much respect for you and you surely don't deserve it. So, Peter pay attention to what you're doing because if a slight scratch forms on that table, I can't ensure what your Boss will do."

Melody piped in with a wholly phony smile, captivating the audience's attention but again got ignored by them. She made a pouty face.

"Because he deceived others, most importantly you, and plagiarized the reports."

Peter continued the blame game. Lucas's brow furrowed and his shoulder slumped in desperate anguish at his statements. He opened his mouth to object, but when he perceived the boss's malevolent aura, he sealed his mouth.

Hela smirked at the loser in front of her. She clearly disdains such people, who are perpetually seeking the last shred of blaming rather than doing worthwhile things.

Did he think she was that big fool? Haa! surely he does. Her expression turned cold and the room temperature dropped to the negative.

She stood up and spun the paperweight, repulsed by his miserable self.

"Do you know what kind of people I despise most?"

She asked giving a dead stare to his pathetic self. Peter shivered under her gaze but tried to maintain his composed look.

"Liars."

Melody again chimed in but got ignored again but her words weren't ignored.

Peter's limbs shuddered as if a current rushed across his back.

"Did you take me for a fool?" She paused and then continued. "Who doesn't know what's going on in her own organization, uhh?"

She roared looking at the pathetic excuse of a human. His mouth was now completely closed. He had planned to lash out and seek a promotion and favors for his great error of being fired, but now it appears that all of his schemes have flopped.

"But Boss- "

He attempted again but was stunned by her next sentence.

"What was the outcome of your most recent investigation, Mr. Stone?"

Lucas looked up, shocked. How could she know? He did it discreetly, without anyone noticing. His palm began to moisten. He rubbed it on his black formal pants.

"Boss I…I…"

Lucas stuttered. She gave him an impatient look. He hesitated before speaking.

"It was all about falsifying the records and finances."

Lucas expressed his concern. He was too afraid to confront the human-turned Devil, who was now preparing to devour the soul.

"Can you elaborate?"

She pointed a look and continued to swirl the paper weight on the glass table. In less than five minutes, Peter sweats bullets. His feet turned cold with anticipation.

She looked up after not receiving an answer.

"S-Sure. That was done by Mr. Peter. Being in the research department, all accounts are prepared and given in for evaluation according to the reports presented, and he routinely forges some."

Lucas described his investigation, which he conducted without involving anyone because he suspected Peter when he accidentally came across the balance chart of the recent project.

So he started to investigate in secret and when he got the result he was ready to tell the CEO but before that, his situation took a drastic turn and he was on the verge of losing his job.

Hela glanced at Peter with derision.

"Would you like to hear more?"

She probed, but Peter's concentration was on Lucas, who revealed all the oddities he tried to conceal. His blood pounded and his mind merged with wrath, and he charged toward him because, indirectly or directly, he was the reason for his plight.

Melody stood firm in the face of the unexpected fight. Lucas became frightened, cowering more in fear of being bashed, and held his hand front as a shield to defend himself.

"You a*shole. It is all because of you. All because of you."

Peter charged towards him, yelling and screaming. Hela straightened up quickly and flung the paperweight, striking his ball and socket joints.

Peter shrieked in anguish, his joints throbbing, and he collapsed on the floor. Lucas almost stopped breathing when he heard the sound of bone breaking.

Melody hollered at her friend, "Good shot, honey!" She was cheering her on from behind. That's my girl.

Hela tapped the intercom, and a muscular bodyguard entered the cabin in less than a minute.

"Clear the trash."

It was enough for the big guy to comprehend. He observed the scenario and realized what was going on. He dragged Peter, who was still howling in agony, along.

"I will report this to the police. Just wait." Peter shouted in the midst of pain but Hela ignored him.

"We're going to be late, honey."

Melody reminded packing her stuff which was nothing besides her handbag and phone. Hela nodded and paused her eyes on Lucas who still stood in a state of shock.

"Directly report to me tomorrow."

She told him. When she didn't receive a response, she frowned.

"Get it?"

Lucas who came to his senses hurriedly nodded.

"Y-Yes Boss."

He was perplexed but did not dare to inquire further. It was more than enough for today. At least he wasn't fired. He was exhausted, and he walked out of the cabin, bowing significantly in respect to his boss.

The day was too long.

He released a breath.
