Chapter 7 - Training Begins

The next morning Jason was up bright and early he decided today was going to be an all-around training day. He needs to get used to the elemental magics so he can cast them faster and with less focus. In order for this to proceed smoothly he decided to devise a training regiment for the next two weeks. First Jason is starving so he decides to quickly make a meal and eat it before heading out into the backyard. This is the only area he can practice his Fire magic so he must be out here. Jason decided to work with Earth magic first. This was to his practice before it was easier to start with. He sits on the grass and closes his eyes this time five one-foot-long poles lifted out of the ground. It didn't take too much time to do this but Jason starts to retract them back into the ground. This process took longer than to create and Jason had to assume it was due to trying to force the earth back down on itself. Jason repeats this process on the five poles for the next three hours. After the three hours had passed Jason stood up to stretch his legs. Sitting in a meditative trance was a new thing for him so he needed to make it more comfortable the next time he tries.

The next skill he decided to train was Water manipulation. In order to train this skill Jason decided he will try to make balls of water appear in the air and then get rid of them. He thinks this way may be the fastest to get him used to casting. Jason closes his eyes and begins to focus. Shortly after two small water balls appear floating. Jason then begins working to evaporate the water back into the environment. Again he finds this process takes a lot longer than it did to form the water balls. Curious about the time difference Jason continues training but keeps thinking of reasons behind this to no avail. After about 4 hours Jason is brought out of his trance by a familiar voice "Hey wanna get something to eat?" Jason opens his eyes to find the fire elemental from yesterday Zachary standing in front of him. "Oh hey that actually sounds great about now" Jason starts to stand up only for his stomach to growl loudly. After a momentary laugh the two head into the house for Jason to freshen up as he'd been outside for hours previously.

After a brief time the two head out into the village. Since it is a tiny village there is not many places to go or visit. However, in the village center, there are always stalls set up to trade items and gear along with food vendors. This is where the two are headed. Jason before leaving talked to Gracie about payment and she just handed him a couple of bottles of her honey from her inventory. Apparently, the village is very keen on the barter system for their currency which is quite odd yet fascinating for Jason. Previously he lived in a time where paper currency ruled supreme, being in a place where items hold individual wealth was sort of cool for him. Eventually, the two are in the town center and looking around Jason sees a bunch of worn down and cheap gear and items lining the stalls they pass by. It makes sense to him since a small village wouldn't have a big commerce district.

Jason was enjoying the sightseeing until Zachary leads him to a certain stall. It was a food stall but this one was more secluded and off to the side than the rest. Jason wonders briefly why that is before ordering one of the meat skewers that were for sale since that is what he saw Zachary order. He hands the lady running the stall one of the honey bottles before the two begin their walk again, this time with no destination in mind. "That stall is my favorite, only place you can get dire wolf meat around here," Zachary tells him before beginning to devour his meat skewer. Seeing how Zachary is acting Jason becomes excited to try the dire wolf meat. He takes his first bite and is hit with a powerful sensation. First, he feels as though his strength is quickly rising but it only last briefly before returning to normal. Then was the taste, it was naturally spicy and chewy. Jason quickly understood Zachary's love for this food.

Sometime passes around an hour with the two walking and talking before they end back at Gracie's house. Jason has to call their time a bit short due to having to finish training with the other two elemental magics. He makes his way to the backyard and starts thinking of how to train his Wind magic. He closes his eyes and starts focusing on the area around him. Jason decided to adopt the strategy of trying to make individual balls of wind. This is a bit difficult due to Wind being an entire entity in itself however after a bit of concentration Jason is able to produce two wind spheres. This time something unexpected happens, as he begins to try and cancel the magic this time it is extremely easy. He becomes confused as the previous two had been harder to get rid of. Jason's only guess was as he was trying to get rid of them the entity that is wind felt like it was trying to take them back anyway. He continues this training for around three to four hours.

Jason is happy with his progress he feels that whatever this wind entity is he and it have some sort of understanding so it has been helping him learn it easier. It was now time for Jason to practice Fire magic. Since he had done it three other times he'd already known that the ball method would work. Jason closes his eyes and concentrates deeply. He is able to make 3 flame balls appear, quickly he puts them out as he doesn't wish to start a huge fire. Extinguishing the flames was almost as easy as when he previously tried with the wind. However, with the fire, it almost had the will to survive so to caused a bit more focuses to be needed. Content that he can safely practice Jason begins his trance like practice and stays like this for almost five hours. Gracie has to come out and get him due to it being too dark out before he snaps out of his practice and heads inside. Jason both tired and famished heads into the house for food. After getting a full stomach he hops into his bed and falls into a deep sleep. Unlike previously he is able to sleep fully through the night due to the extensive mental workout from the day.
