When Ava arrived at the hospital, she felt several men rushing to her, wanting to help, they were doctors, nurses amongst, and as she was brought to an emergency room, she remembered begging for help, calling for her sister Miriam to help her.
Well, that would have happened if she wasn't wallowing in self-pity and pain.
She doesn't know what ached her the most, her head or the rest of her body. Whatever the case might be, she couldn't feel her toes, it seemed like the car had planned on killing her, but then, even in this state, she has one thing going through her mind, the fact that she has a niece and wants to know how she is faring.
That would not be fair to let the child go once more without a close relative, he had barely seen her mother, and now, the only aunt she knows as her relative is here fighting for her life.
The thought of it made her crease for forehead in thoughts, indeed, she did not find it the least funny, and that is something that makes her see the reasons to fight for her life even more.
The sharp blades that tore her clothes and penetrated her body made her know that she is in danger, and the fright that tore her entire body couldn't be compared to anything she has seen yet.
Hendrix had slowly followed the ambulance behind in his car, and all the way, he couldn't tear his eyes from his baby's own. The simple thought that he had a baby girl of five years was crazy, like seriously, and he had the urge to hold her, run his large hands through her hair, or more, more, sniff through it as if his life depends on it.
It is crazy how this weird feeling goes, but damn it, the fear that had consumed him as he watched her aunty being hit by the car is one that he had never thought possible.
It is all his fault, he should never have pushed them away, considering the fact that they barely know anyone in town.
"What is your name?" Hendrix's voice came out of his throat, sounding like he is in total pain.
"Sophie," the child answered.
The energy that had been in her seemed to have disappeared for a while, and that is something that was kind of awkward. The truth is that the more he had his eyes on the baby own it felt like staring at himself through the mirror.
The effect was mindblowing, and she knows about that.
"What a beautiful name you have there. Do you mind if I give you a pet name?" Hendrix muffled voice came through his mouth.
He thinks that he lives with his daughter already, she looks so nice and I oncent, and open as well because she accepted to be left alone with a man she doesn't know. That is crazy, if Hendrix was a villain, then, he would have taken advantage of this moment to elope with his child, after all, it is his, and he would want to protect her at all cost.
"Yes, daddy, what would my pet name be?" Sophie's soft voice came piercing into the man's ears.
Hendrix felt the lump starting to rise in his throat, but then, instead of talking about it, all he did was swallow hard as he tried to make that feeling pass away so fast that it hurts.
"Did your Aunt Ava ask you to call me daddy?" Hendrix's question came in as he doubted that the child's guardian might have been a great source of the little lady's euphoria, coupled with the fact that she kept that beautiful look on his face whenever she spoke as if inviting the man to top up his words.
Sophie's face was now a mask of hurt, more like he had not expected to the child to glare at him in that manner, as well as have that reaction.
"Aunty Ava?" Sophie called out as she sniffed hard.
"Yes," Hendrix said as he urged her to do speak.
That is a crazy way of thinking because Sophie was only five or so, thus, putting such thoughts in her mind wouldn't be worth it at all.
As the young man had several thoughts rushing through his mind, as he felt bad that he had asked the question in the first place because to Sophie, she thought that accusing her aunty right now wouldn't be worth it at all.
"Aunt Ava only said we are traveling all the way here to meet daddy, I've always thought of the day I would see my dad because most of my friends always play and have fun with their parents, and their daddys' would carry them on his neck and by them many gifts," Sophie said.
Hendrix felt like a million daggers had been piercing his stomach all of a sudden, she had not expected such a confession from the child, and indeed, she feels so sad because he had not seen these things coming his way, and that is super awkward.
When Hendrix blinked severally to clear the haze of tears that had started forming in his eyes, that is awkward, because the heat that crept through his face was really annoying especially when he felt the heat deepen on his face.
Sophie was sitting on the passenger's side close to him, and Hendrix had made sure that her seatbelt was well tied. The child's safety seemed to be Hendrix's priority, even though he doesn't know anything about her yet.
For the corners of his eyes, he saw how Sophie swirled her head to face him, but he didn't dare to turn because he didn't want to tear his eyes from the road, that wouldn't be good at all.
Sophie had a question to ask and she was going to take permission from her father before spitting out her ideas.
"Please, can I ask a question?" Sophie asked her voice light and filled with happiness.
