Hendrix held the baby's face protective, and as he thought of something to tell her, he didn't know what a child would want to hear, but damn, whatever the case might be, he just led the words to slip out of his mouth as that was kind of essential.
Kneeling down, he gently placed his hands on the child's shoulders, and as he sulked on his breath, he decided to make things work out for him.
"Baby Sophie, I want you to hear what I have to say, that is, your Aunt Ava would go to heaven, okay? nothing would happen to her. Now, if you would be pleased to lend me to your hand, then, we are going to know how she is feeling okay?" he said sweetly.
Sophie held her father's hands nicely, and the feeling was so magical.
"Sophie?" Hendrix said carrying the child in his arms, she was soft, and as she held him faintly, he couldn't help other than sniff her baby fragrance deeply.
Hendrix didn't have any doubt that Sophie was his baby, in fact, he loves her already, there is no doubt and the whole feeling that crept through his entire body made a small creepy smile that consumed him.
Everything was fine until he heard the child's voice penetrate his ears.
"My aunty Sophie doesn't have a car," the baby said sweetly as she swirled her hands around the man's neck.
Sophie knew that her face was growing hot with embarrassment, but damn, she loves her dad already, and she couldn't help but hold the man's neck tightly, scared that she might fall.
"How did you both get here then?" Hendrix asked in his tight light little voice.
He was so curious about these people he met here, that was crazy because an hour ago, all that mattered to him was the fact that he had his basketball games to play his games.
Sophie heaved a gentle sigh and as he suppressed that feeling, he had the sudden urge to tell the lady what that was.
"We boarded the bus, and then the train, I don't know how long we spent on the way, but we slept at night on the train. It was dark, so, my aunt Ava asked me to shut my eyes so that I could have some rest. I had to obey her," the child said sweetly.
Glaring at Sophie, Hendrix noted all these things, because he knew that they all looked tired, there is no doubt about that, so, in order words, he is the beast, the bad person right now. Just thinking about it made the young man clench his teeth in anger. He felt bad that he had more being hospitable to the least, and that feeling doesn't make him any less reputable.
"You must be tired then, I guess," the young man said faintly as they entered the hospital, and he led the way to the receptionist desk, ready to give an account of who he is and the reason why he is here.
"I am exhausted, and not only that, but I am also hungry. So much that it hurts," Sophie's muffled sound came in as she cleared out her mind as simple as it is.
"Didn't aunt Ava buy you breakfast?" Hendrix's voice came in and he decided to make things work out as much as possible.
Sophie was silence, but when she got her voice back, she let the words slip out as much as possible.
"I didn't have breakfast this morning, and Aunt Ava hasn't eaten since yesterday," Sophie said softly.
Hendrix grit his teeth very badly, he knew that he wasn't supposed to do so instead and as he arrived at the receptionist desk, he didn't say anything about that slimy comment, instead, he focused on the lady that came visible on the desk and at once, he greeted.
"Good morning, Ms. Please, I am here to check on the lady that was brought in an ambulance earlier, Miss Ava Julie Andrews," Hendrix said sounding like he knows the lady all too well. That was sick and he knows that too well to argue on some dumb facts.
The receptionist was a very pretty lady, and the sight of Hendrix made him acknowledge him at once. The young man was a great basketball player and too handsome to get unnoticed.
Thinking about it made him want to chuckle, but he didn't attempt that shit, of course, rather, he arranged the child in his arms, making her balance well as he indirectly showed the child to the lady behind the counter as a way of openly telling her that he has a baby, a pretty one for that matter.
The look on the lady's face was rather one filled with embarrassment, and instead of saying anything, he just pursed his lips, making it sound rather neutral and a little disappointed.
Searching through the random files in front of him, she finally opened one and as she lifted her head to face Hendrix's own, she said faintly,
"Oh yes, Miss Andrews, she is in the emergency room, if you would wait in the emergency room, then, reports from the lady might be out any moment from now," the nurse said ever so nicely.
Hendrix nodded his head in apprehension, he loves the way the lady sounded, and indeed, it was so damn encouraging, coupled with the fact that he couldn't even bear gulping down the fact that it is all his fault.
That feeling sulks so badly that it literally hurts.
"Alright, thank you so much, Ms. I would be in the waiting hall then," the young man said cooly.
Hendrix was really that tall for a man, and good enough for him, he chose the right sport and was as well doing the right thing by loving what he does and doing it to perfection, there isn't more than that to be expected from them, and that is the good thing about it.
