Ava was blinded with rage as she stomped away, she just wanted to return to Buea, and the next she realized was the horning of a car that had lost brakes, running through them.
She held Sophie tightly but couldn't feel her anymore, she had the urge to save her and herself but there was no time. The next thing she knew is that she was laying on the tarred road wishing her baby niece was fine.
Although Ava has always been clumsy to an extend, she knew that she was not a bad aunty, and had proved it by raising a five years old baby alone with help from no one. When she struggled to look around, Ava saw Hendrix beside her.
The young man had witnessed the scene, and he was fast enough to save his daughter, Sophie while pushing Ava aside, but the car hit her all the same.
The first question that popped out from her mouth was, "Where is... my niece?"
Ava sat quietly as she choked out a mouthful of blood.
"Hush, Ava, you hurt, so calm down. Sophie is fine, she only has a wound on her forehead, but she is fine because you were fast in putting her aside and incurring the greatest part of the injury," Hendrix muttered out.
The players from the basketball court had rushed out to the sound of the wound they were so confused to see Hendrix helping lady. That was weird, but when their gaze came to the little girl's own, they saw their captain's face in the child's own.
Coach Max was the one who broke the silence by saying, "Call 9-1-1"
A phone call was made, and an ambulance was sent.
In Hendrix's entire life, she has never been shocked like the way she is now. There is nothing more than seeing someone now and losing her in the next second.
"Opening your eyes, Ava, please, don't you dare close your eyes on me," Hendrix said.
Ava who had closed her eyes for a second heard the panic that was buried in the man's voice, it was funny, but she didn't have the courage to even laugh at the situation because of her condition.
Ava gently opened her eyes, and she had the bluest of eyes and it was unusual because they had lost the hue they used to have.
"Hendrix, please take good care of Sophie, she deserves to be happy with you by her side," the young lady murmured as she choked blood once more.
She doesn't know how to deal with the pain that keeps shooting at her and before she notices it, the young lady passed out.
The confusion that swept through Hendrix was mindblowing. A minute ago he had not known anything about Ava or his baby, and now that he is trying to figure them out, she has Ava through accident and his baby burst out crying.
Hendrix thought for a second that his mind was going crazy, the heat that swept through him is one that he has never experienced before.
The paramedics rushed to the scene and when a pair of warm hands touched him, they said quickly,
"This is the para-medical team, Sir, if you will let us check the lady, then we will give you feedback," one of the doctors said.
Hendrix brushed aside in a swift manner, but his eyes didn't leave Ava's pretty face.
"The lady's pulse is still active, but it is faintly, so we need to save her very quickly.
Instantly, the medical team started their jobs while Hendrix jumped to the side of the road to pick up his daughter, the one that he didn't know he had before today.
"Come here, Sophie, are you in pain as well? tell me where it hurts in your body apart from your body please," he muttered out gently to the baby.
Sophie who had seen her Aunty Ava being taken away renewed the wave of tears that waved through her entire body. It was awkward, so much that no one has ever seen it before.
"I want my Aunty Ava," Sophie called out as she burst into tears.
The owner of the car who had knocked the lady down wasn't given a chance to explain himself, and when he was noticed that he was drunk, the young man had been taken away by the police.
Coach Max walked up to Hendrix as he said, "Your daughter is very beautiful, she takes after her father with the handsome face," he joked.
Although Maxwell just wanted to light up the situation, nobody found it funny to the list, in fact, it was even more Like adding salt to a wound, thus, he stopped trying to do that, and focus more on matters that kind of made sense. That was necessary right now.
"You shouldn't be here with this child, by the way, when is bleeding on her forehead, I think you should follow then, especially because of the lady in the ambulance, I always knew that this playing attitude of yours will bright forth offsprings one day, I wonder how many kids will pop up from the blue coming here to claim the international player as their father," the coach spat out.
He was just being mean to perfection, but with the bit of sincerity added on to it.
Hendrix didn't get offended with coach Maxwell because he spoke the truth to its finest, and although he didn't know what to do or say anything, Hendrix decided to walk away from Max's side.
"I am going to the hospital, my daughter needs medical attention," he said walking towards the ambulance to give the little Sophie to the team to take care of him as well.
"I want to stay with you, daddy," Sophie's weeny voice pierced Hendrix's ears, and instantly, he held the child tightly against his bosom.
"It is alright, Doctor, I will bring the child to the hospital," Hendrix said promising them.
When the sound of the siren drove away, Ava was in the ambulance fighting for her life, Hendrix quickly rushed to his car, avoiding the millions of eyes that pierced his back as he left.
