Chapter 2 - MONSTER OF THE NIGHT

"I'm telling you, mum, I saw it, I really did see a creature, no it was a man. He had sharp pointy teeth with smooth black hair that I bet would feel silky to the touch. Believe me, it is a monster." Raine defended while helping her mother arrange the dishes after dinner.

Her long blonde hair was tied up in a ponytail with her beautiful bangs resting lightly on her forehead, almost reaching her ocean blue eyes adding more beauty to her delicate facial features.

Her mother peeked at her skeptically with a raised brow, she pursed her lips before chiming in. "Come on Raine, there is no such thing as monsters. Seems like you have been watching too many fantasy movies lately. How can you tell me you saw a monster in your bedroom? Tell me, what did he do?"

"He....I....he" she faltered lightly, her voice decreasing by volume with every word that came out. How can she tell her mother about him? Who knows, if it is only a fiction of her imagination, but she could swear that everything felt real. Everything about him was real, from his ramrod-straight back to the lonely and dangerous aura he exudes, everything seemed real, or was it?

Every night, deep in slumber, a gentle midnight breeze will brush past her cheeks. The pleasant and soft caress of the wind would make her eyelids flutter open.

Silently, she would sit gently on her bed and without uttering a single word, stare intently at the lonely figure by her window. He didn't move nor speak but just stood there with all solemnity as the gentle breeze blew past his midnight black hair revealing his manly but godly face.

She would gawk at him with a starstruck expression as if trying to find out who he is.

A monster?

No, he was a man, a man who looked like he was drawn out of a fictional book. The pale moonlight, with all its glory, shone directly unto his fair but slightly tanned skin, resting upon his smooth, inky black hair. His long, dark lashes quivered softly as he closed his eyes. The whole view seemed ethereal like it was brought out of a painting.

She felt drawn to his presence but somehow, she couldn't move. He was in her room, standing by her window. He was so close but yet he seemed so far like she could never reach out to him. With fingers trembling, she would try to brush her messy bangs from her eyes to get a clearer view of this godly appearance.

No one said a single word, each silent and locked up in their own single realm and every night, that became their silent conversation. The whole atmosphere was calm and peaceful with the midnight moonlight reflecting into the dark and quiet room as if paving way for its two occupants.

This continued for a long while until suddenly, the soft breeze grew stronger and her vision would become blurry. She could feel her insides becoming hotter by the minute as if a hot burning furnace was lit up inside her. She dug her nails deep into the bed as the terrifying pain washed through her entire being.

With teary eyes, she could still make out the figure standing by the window still with his eyes closed as if he was wrapped up in his own bubble.

'Why isn't he moving? can't he feel.... ' that was the last sentence her brain could manage to come up with as the intense pain surfaced through her whole being, rendering her senseless. She broke into muffled sobs, she felt that her insides were clamped tightly. She opened her mouth to force some air into them, but all to no avail, the pain was resurging with each counting second.

Somehow, she would manage to flutter her eyelids open only to discover that the man was now intently staring at her with a scrutinizing gaze. His misty grey eyes held no expression whatsoever. Although his image was blurry from her view she could still make out his god-like face.

Ever so slowly, he would gently open his lips revealing his sharp and pointy fangs which not only added more charm but mystery to his looks. He would mutter in a cold but subtle voice, "Go to sleep," and she would immediately close her eyes, drifting off back to sleep and ignoring the pain she felt. His little command was like music to her ears and with every single word uttered, she would comply wordlessly.

The man would walk gently toward her bed and stare at her delicate features for a long time. Her eyelids were shut tightly and his gaze traveled down all through her collarbones before finally settling in her tiny hands which were clutched in a fist. He raised his hands to unclench her fists before placing them gently beside her.

His hands would softly caress her cheeks to reduce the pressure she felt. He would wipe her tears clean while patting her silky blonde hair gently. He would sit and stare at her for what seemed like hours before placing a soft kiss on her forehead as if silently telling her to sleep tight. And by the break of dawn, he left.

Raine would wake up the next morning just to find out that everything was back to normal. Her face wasn't tear-stricken, but she could remember herself crying before finally falling asleep.

Was it a dream or was it real?

Feeling disturbed, she would carry out her daily routine but her mind would wander off occasionally to that mysterious monster of the night.

Yes, he was a monster. He was a monster for hunting her every night. He was a monster for not revealing anything about himself. He was a monster for leaving her confused when she woke up every morning. He was a monster and his looks said it all but somehow, she still felt drawn to this so-called monster.

With that in mind, she decided to tell her mother about it but just like everyone else, who would believe that she encountered a monster in her room every night, only to disappear the day after.

She needed a solution, she needed answers but her only light of hope has just gotten dim.

Crestfallen, she quickly arranged the dishes with her mother before going upstairs to her room and preparing for bed hoping to see the so-called monster of the night, and this time, she had a plan...
