Chapter 1 - The Notice

Jeanohntae Nicole Babauta was a 21 year old girl working for her local convenient store to support her family.... She had always been a good girl all her life.

She has worked hard to get to where she is now. She has not finished school, but she does not let that bring her down. She understands because she has no degree, she has to work extra hard.

She woke up one morning, getting ready to head to work. It takes about 30 minutes to get to her job. She walked in through the back entrance and saw the most intimidating man she ever saw.

Christian Maddox! He had the most terrifying cold face that would make anyone tremble in fear. He saw Jeanohntae staring and under his cold gaze, he smirked.

"It is rude to just stare." he said.

With an embarrassed flushed face. She looked down and apologized.

"I-I'm sorry! How may I help you!??" she stuttered.

He walked around the store ignoring her question and was getting a few items off the shelves. He stopped by the wine...

"What would you recommend!??" staring at Jeanohntae who was not paying attention and trying to avoid eye contact.

"Cabernet Sauvignon and Rosè... Although I do prefer the Rosè. It has a hint of red grape skin and honey." She managed to say without stuttering.

Christian smirked and grabbed the bottle of Rosè, then proceeded to walk to the register. Jeanohntae was trying to ring him up quickly and stop the awkward sensation in the store.

Christian thought she looked like someone he knows, he just couldn't bring himself to ask. Christian gave her a final glance before walking out the store.

As the doors slowly closed, Jeanohntae let out a big sigh of relief. She was a little terrified of Christian, he easily towered over her as he was 6 feet tall and she was only 5"2.

A few hour later, her shift ended and was about to head home when she spotted a Rolls Royce sitting in the parking lot. She was suspicious about it but was really tired.

'Why would a fancy Rolls Royce be parked in a dark parking lot at night!??' She was so confused, but did not have the energy to continue thinking about it.

She shrugged it off, got in her car and proceeded to leave the premises to head home.

Christian was in that Rolls Royce making sure she was okay because he noticed a few men standing outside and she was the only one there.

After 30 minutes of driving, she finally reached her small home. She saw her dad Rudy Babauta sitting at the dining table with a bunch of mail spread out across the table. He looked so exhausted and stressed.

Jeanohntae put down her bag and slowly walked over to him. "Dad, what's wrong!??" She looked worried about him

"We've received another notice of past due rent!" Her father responded with his hands covering his face. "We might need to move out." Rudy was on the verged of tears of how worried he was.

"It's okay. I'll get another job and I'll work more hours." She walked over and hugged him. "We'll get through this! Together." she assured him.

"What did I do to deserve a caring daughter like you." He looked up to see her smiling. "You deserve the world for taking care of me." She wasn't wrong. Rudy had always tried to put Jeanohntae's needs before anything else.

"Thank you so much sweetie." Rudy smiled.

Jeanohntae was extremely tired. "I'm gonna head up to bed. See you in the morning." She went to her room and took a nice long bath. She could not wait to sleep. She got dressed in her pajamas and headed to her bed.

She stared up at the ceiling and thought about what happened at work. She was confused and sleepy. She was feeling a little groggy and succumbed to sleep.

Jeanohntae went to work the next day to inform her boss that she won't be working there anymore. The boss was sad to see her leave. She has been a hard worker and he loved to keep her, but he knew that she needed more experience else where.

"You take care of yourself in the world dear. If you feel the need to come back, you are always welcome." The boss wore a warm smile with a hint of sadness. He has always admired Jeanohntae for her hard work and determination.

Jeanohntae smiled and continued her work. After her shift ended, she was about to head home. She turned back to look at the job she had loved so much. She was finally leaving it.

Within the next few days, Jeanohntae has tried applying for multiple jobs. She finally found a better one and quit her old job. Little did she know, she was about to walk into the lion's den.
