Chapter 3 - Part 2

RONA'S POINT OF VIEW

"What? Why are you crying?"

She did not answer. She just kept crying so I felt very nervous. Confusion entered my system when I smelled the smoke. It was pretty thick when I saw it in the air around us.

"Si-sister, our house... i-is on fire—"

I got up quickly. "Fast, Rhein!" I immediately pulled her over and ran outside.

When we got out, Rhein sat down on the road and burst into tears. Fortunately, there were not many burning planks of wood on the route we took.

I pulled my phone out of my pocket and called the firefighters' number. A few minutes later, they arrived and put out the fire—wait, I seemed to have forgotten something.

"Father... Mother..." Father and Mother, they were left inside our home! No... no... I ran towards the house but was stopped by one of the firefighters. I could do nothing but cry and cry. Rhein, with teary eyes, approached me and hugged me.

"M-mother! Father!" How are we going to live now?

We were too young when that incident happened. Now, we have grown up. I am now a secretary of a company. Rhein is already a Grade 11 student at Gonzales University. I was also able to build a house for us sisters. Thanks to a relative of ours who helped us stand firmly from that tragedy.

I just finished preparing myself for work. Until now, Rhein still does not come out of her room yet. "Why is not she awake yet? It is already noon." I went to her room and her lying body was revealed to me, still enjoying her sleep. I pulled the blanket overly wrapped around her. "Rhein, wake up. It is noon. You are late now," I said authoritatively.

She got up and arranged her belongings in a hurry. She also took a bath too fast and ran out of the house to go to her school. Rhein did not even eat breakfast and said goodbye to me. Probably, she was even faster than lightning.

Fortunately, we had received help. We would not be in this relieved situation if it did not come.

I smiled for a moment before taking my bag from the room. I also locked the door and closed the gate before leaving the house.

In the middle of the walk, I thought about what had happened back then. According to the police investigation, a woman was seen in front of our house before the incident.

Right now, this is what Rhein believes in. One day, she too will know the whole truth... and that day is near. Just a little wait.

It seemed like only recently, that was also the only reality my sister and I knew but when my eighteenth birthday had arrived, everything I believed changed. I also found out who I really am.

I felt something land on my right shoulder - Natre, my partner. She is a little green bird. I had no idea what kind of bird she is because she, herself, also did not know.

"Good morning," she greeted.

"Morning also."

There was no one around so even if I talked to her, I would not be mistaken as a crazy person.

"Have you eaten the food I put outside the window?" I asked while smiling.

"Yes. Tomorrow, I want toasted bread with honey!"

I laughed because she shouted so high. "All right. Just do your best to keep an eye on Rhein."

"Roger that, Princess!" and she flew away to follow my sister.
