Today was the dread, long awaited day. Today was the day that Monet was supposed to get married to a man she did not love, but instead despised with every fiber of her being. She wanted nothing more than to just runaway now and never look back, but knowing her parents they would just play it off as nervousness to everyone else then drag her back as soon as possible.
While her bridesmaids and maid of honor were getting ready in another room in the church, Monet was sitting in her dressing room getting ready with the help of her make up artist and friend, Chyna. The woman was grateful that she had Chyna doing her make up because the girl could work her magic unlike somebody else who was in the damn wedding. Monet wanted nobody else, but Chyna to work on her face and her face alone.
"You look very beautiful, Mo," Chyna remarked.
"Even when I put on that hideous dress?" Monet inquired. Chyna laughed at her response. The dress was hideous, but it was an old dress passed down from her grandmother to her mother.
"Yes. Even in that hideous dress you'll look beautiful," Chyna replied.
"I want to burn that thing so badly," I murmured.
"Me too, but I'm not trying to have some old bat haunt me," Chyna laughed.
"Don't worry. My grandmother won't be mad if you burn it," Monet chuckled, "In fact, she would be very thrilled."
"Why?" Chyna asked.
"Because my grandfather was a serial cheater and he made her miserable. Burning that dress would do nothing but make her happy," Monet answered.
"Then I guess we can do it now," Chyna chuckled.
"You got that doggone custom made zippo?" Monet asked with Ana amused smile.
"Of course I do. I always have it on me," She replied.
"Between you and Jade, I don't know who's worse," Monet said.
"Jade. Home girl always got that pistol with her wherever she goes," Chyna replied.
"Of course I got the pistol on me," Jade said as she entered the room, "I have to have it in case someone tries to get buck with me."
"The crazy part is that she's not going to shoot, but instead she's going to point it at you and pistol whip you in the face," Monet told Chyna.
"Girl, you think I don't remember this weirdo bringing that mess to the Alpha's party and pistol whipping the fraternity president's girlfriend?" Chyna asked.
"Man, that girl was trying me that night. She deserved every bit of it," Monet responded.
"Lord. You almost got all three of us arrested," Chyna rolled her eyes.
"We got out trouble, didn't we?" Jade smirked. Now that Monet knew about Jade's sugar daddy, she had finally realized that he had gotten them out of trouble with his connections and money, which Monet was grateful for.
"And that spanking you got the very next day was a testament to your sugar daddy being upset?" Monet asked.
"Of course He was upset. He had to bail me out of trouble and made me promise to never do it again," Jade answered.
"Hm. Yet you're still getting into some mess," Chyna shook her head.
"Hell yeah I am," Jade proudly stated.
"That wasn't a dang on compliment, girl," Monet rolled her eyes.
"To me it was," Jade giggled.
"Alright, girl. Let do some finish touches and spray setting mist," Chyna informed Monet. The MUA finished working her magic on Monet's face and then sprayed the setting mist on her face.
"Alright, your face looks beautiful and your hair does too," Chyna smiled as she carefully took the clips out of Monet's hair.
"Thank you, Chyna," Monet smiled.
"You're welcome. Go out there and kill it girl," Chyna said as she packed up her things. Soon, the woman was gone.
"Alright, Jade. Help me get into this thing," Monet told her friend.
"Girl, I don't want to touch that," Jade replied.
"I don't either, but we need to so I can make my exit," Monet sighed.
"Fine. I'll touch that hideous thing, but I won't like it," Jade answered. The two women carefully started getting to work on putting the dress on Monet. They were both very disgusted by the dress and it's design altogether.
"This feels like abuse," Monet remarked.
"It is abuse," Jade emphasized. Once they were finished, Monet looked in the mirror and blanched at the sight of herself.
"Jade, I'm going to kill myself," Monet whispered.
"Killing yourself might be the best option," Jade agreed. The door to the room opened in walked Monet's mother and Trevor's. Jade stepped off to the side while the women gasped.
"Oh, Monet. You look so beautiful," Her mother said. That was a damn lie and she knew it. Monet looked hideous. Extremely hideous and she wanted nothing more than to disappear. She glanced at Jade for a second who was giving her a sympathetic look.
"She's right. That dress fits you perfectly," Trevor's mother responded.
"Thank you," Monet smiled.
"I'll take that as my cue to leave. Good luck out there, Mo," Jade murmured.
"Thank you, Jade," Monet smiled again. Jade exited the room leaving the three women together.
"And your friend did such a good job with your make up," Her mother gushed.
"When this is over, let me have her number. I need someone like that who made you look ten times gorgeous," Yolanda said.
"Me too," Monet's mother agreed. The two mothers continued to gush over about how she looked until it was time for Monet to walk down the aisle. They both wished her good luck before leaving. Monet's father entered the room with a serious look on his face. Would it kill him to smile for once?
"Are you ready, Monet?" He asked.
"Yes, sir," She answered flipping the veil over her face.
"Make sure you don't mess this up for your mother and I. We're counting on you to make this wedding a success and to also consummate your marriage with Trevor so that I can have a successor to my church," He told her. What the hell, man? For once could he say something nice and sentimental to his daughter? He's like a drill sergeant. Just giving orders and not showing any kind of human emotion.
As they slowly walked down the aisle, all eyes were on Monet. She looked straight ahead to where Trevor and his buddies were. She noticed one of them budge Trevor and then they laughed quietly as they looked at her. Honestly, she had never wanted to throw a bouquet at someone so hard before and then beat his ass.
When they reached the alter, Trevor thanked her father and took her hand.
"Dearly Beloved, we are gathered here today in the presence of these witnesses, to join Monet and Trevor in matrimony commended to be honorable among all; and therefore is not to be entered into lightly but reverently, passionately, lovingly and solemnly. Into this - these two persons present now come to be joined. If any person can show just cause why they may not be joined together - let them speak now or forever hold their peace," The priest said.
As if on cue, the doors to the church burst open like in a movie scene. A cliché, yet cool movie scene. In walked Adrián much to Monet's surprise. The man was dressed for the occasion in a nice silk shirt, trousers, and a pair of dress shoes.
"I object!" He exclaimed walking down the aisle. The entire church gasped in surprise at his presence. They hadn't expected this stranger to object this happy wedding.
"Adrián," Monet mumbled. She looked over at Jade who just shrugged.
"Monet, I can't let you marry him," He told her. Monet's father signaled for her brother and her cousins to handle it. They began to walk over towards Adrián and roughly handle him as they escorted him towards the door.
"Monet, I can't let you marry him when you're already married to me!" Adrián exclaimed. More gasps filled the church, which was annoying and dramatic at the same time. Her brother and cousins stopped touching him to look back at her. All eyes were now on Monet. She looked over at Jade who simply nodded at her.
"I guess now is a good time to confess," Monet thought to herself silently. She sighed heavily and took off the veil, then tossed it onto the floor with the bouquet.
"He's right," Monet admitted, "We are married. In fact, I married him during my trip to Vegas."
"What?! That can't be possible!" Her father exclaimed angrily.
"There must be some mistake," Her mother cried out.
"No its true," Monet held up her hand that held the ring on it, "I didn't want to tell anyone because I was afraid."
She looked over at her parents for emphasis and then continued, "To be honest, I'm not in love with Trevor at all. In fact, I hate him and want nothing more than for him to burn in hell."
It was his parents turn to gasp at her language.
"Not to mention that I didn't even like the entire arrangement of this wedding anyway. I didn't want to wear this dress, I didn't want to have a blue wedding, I didn't want to go to Jamaica for my honeymoon after I've been there twice, and I didn't want my best friend sitting in the front row while some attention seeking girl was my Maid of Honor," Monet confessed, "In fact, I hate this wedding altogether because it wasn't about me. It's about what my parents want and all that other bullshit."
The entire room was silent as they all listened to her. Monet's parents were fuming.
"If anything, I want to pursue my dream of fashion design, which I was told to put on hold to marry this misogynistic bastard and I want to be able to go out and party without feeling ashamed of myself," Monet said, "I just want freedom from all this shit I've had to endure over the years, especially from my parents who are the biggest hypocrites in the world."
"Monet," Her father growled in a wanting tone. She ignored him.
"My parents aren't perfect at all. In fact, they're horrible people that raise their daughters to be wives and their son to be a lazy ass piece of shit. Did you know that when my sister got pregnant at 16 that my father almost beat her and her baby to death? Did you know that he was ready to kill her that might?" Monet asked. All eyes were on her parents now.
"Did you know that my mother just watched and said, 'that's what you get for whoring around'? Did you know that they even threw her out the house almost unconscious? I had to call my own best friend's parents to get her and take her to the hospital," Monet said.
"How dare you spread lies?" Her mother walked over and slapped her. Her head snapped sideways. Monet gave out a humorless chuckle.
"You just proved my point, mother," Monet replied.
"And mine too," Jade said standing up. She smoothed out the pants to her suit and stood up.
"What do you know? You're just a bastard child that should have never been born! You caused all of this with your stupid ass parents!" Monet's mother yelled.
"Oh shut up, you old bitch," Jade snapped, "You are a horrible mother to your children and you are a very miserable person. I hope you rot in hell."
Adrián walked towards Monet while the entire congregation erupted into chatter at the scene that had just unfolded.
"You okay?" He asked.
"I'm alright. Relieved and happy, but I'm alright," She grinned.
"Great. Let's get out of here," Adrián smiled.
"Okay, but let me get out of this dress," Monet said. She turned to Trevor for a moment.
"Trevor, you can have the honeymoon. Just take your side chick with you. I'm sure she'll be glad to get out of those stuffy wedding clothes," Monet told him.
"Fuck you, hoe," Trevor hissed.
"He's already done that," Monet gestured to Adrián. As they began walking away, Monet heard her name being called.
"Monet, if you walk out the door, you are not part of this family anymore," Her father said. She turned to him and gave him the finger with both hands. Gasps filled the room again. Seriously? How many times are they going to gasp?
"My work here is done," Jade smirked walking away, "Enjoy the reception everyone."
The entire church was stunned at what transpired. This failure of a wedding was going to go down in history as the most entertaining and scandalous one yet.
As for the three accomplices, they let Monet change out of the hideous dress and grab her things.
"Girl, since this wedding failed, I'm going to our place," Jade informed her.
"Okay. See you at home," Monet smiled. She turned to Adrián who was on his phone talking to someone for a moment. When he finished, he turned to smile at her.
"So I take it you two had came up with this plan together?" Monet asked as they began walking.
"Yeah. She told me that it was better to be dramatic," He chuckled.
"I bet she did," Monet giggled, "Thanks for being there."
"No problem," He replied, "It's what husbands do."
"God. You and my friends are enjoying this too much," She rolled her eyes.
"Oh c'mon. You can't say that it's not fun," He laughed.
"It isn't," She responded.
